Did anybody watch this?

What will you be making from it?

I might try the Christmas cup. And then eat some chips with mayonnaise on as a ‘post carousal carb’.

Made the Christmas Cup straight after with a 200ml prosecco and just cut the other ingredients down, very Pimmsy 😋

TheDandyLion · 22/12/2023 18:01

The whole lot sounded amazing the pineapple salad looked lovely.

SoupDragon · 22/12/2023 18:21

I usually like watching her but she was just so irritating and like a comedian's caricature of herself.

I liked the look of the almond things and the biscuits but not a lot else this time. I think of her every time I buy puff pastry as I remember her saying it's simply not worth trying to make it yourself.

verrymerryberry · 22/12/2023 19:49

I enjoyed it but is was innuendo rich ("magic wand" and "fat patty") and she sounded a either slightly drunk or her poshness has turned into a bit of a slurs

But I still love nigella- she's 63- 20 years older than me -and what a woman!

Elthamjohn · 23/12/2023 06:30

I wonder if anyone on Mumsnet has been an extra at one of Nigella’s parties?

And is a biriyani party on a barge ultimately a bit sweaty?

And how many production meetings would it have taken to allow the air fryer onto the show? Does anybody know?

She was slurring on the One show.
I think she has had something done to her lips, that cosmetic procedure where they turn a bit inside out.

I agree, she seemed slightly ridiculous, I switched it off.

MerryMidwinter · 23/12/2023 06:46

I love her old shows, they’re pure Christmas, and her Christmas book is well-used in my house. But she’s become so strange the past few years, as a PP said she’s like a caricature of herself - the slurring, the gurning at the camera, the OTT innuendos. I switched off halfway through.

Elthamjohn · 23/12/2023 07:02

Where is it that she goes in America for one of them? Is it Kansas?

she did sound as if she was slurring her words, to be fair I'm only halfway through the episode and I sometimes slur when I've got a migraine coming or I'm freezing. beautiful lady and makes me want to visit Amsterdam again

StroppyTop · 23/12/2023 08:53

I’m watched a bit of this last night. She looks incredible for 62. Good genes and surely some good work done too? I wondered if she’d had something done to her teeth that was causing the shlurring.

And was the boat the same one used in Ted Lasso when Rebecca meets the lovely Dutch man?

SoupDragon · 23/12/2023 09:04

Munya Chawawa does a superb "impression" of Nigella and I think that might have ruined her TV shows for me as it's all I can see.

SoupDragon · 23/12/2023 09:06

I loved that she used an air frier for the chicken skins. It is perfect for that kind of thing but so not Nigella.

I can't quite believe she was on a boat for all the shots. It looked far too wide inside. Surely you can't host a party like that on a boat?

MollyRover · 23/12/2023 09:18

I doubt that the cooking and in between shots were done on a boat but it's quite possible that the party was on a boat. Many of the houseboats are bigger than traditional apartments in Amsterdam.

SoupDragon · 23/12/2023 09:23

She definitely walked down into the room when she arrived which makes sense for a boat. I just thought it was an odd apartment. It was only at the end when they showed a boat that I made the connection.

i only have experience of British canal boats via "home build" type programmes 😂

Just watched a few clips, he's brilliant!! Certainly doing a much better impression of Nigella than she seems to be able to do of herself these days 🤣🤣

RampantIvy · 23/12/2023 11:12

Ronni Ancona used to do a good impression of her as well.

Elthamjohn · 23/12/2023 17:58

I do wonder if someone might write the opera of Nigella, like they did with Anna Nicole Smith. She has led an incredible life.

i don’t actually agree with the ‘parody of herself’ comments upthread. She is constantly adjusting and updating - her website and interactions on social media / partnership with Ocado, are quite trailblazing, I think.

OP posts:
Elthamjohn · 23/12/2023 17:59

She is also clearly well-liked in the media. Reviews of the Amsterdam programme have been gushing.

OP posts:
Lottapianos · 23/12/2023 18:09

Her programs are bonkers, but in the best way, and she's fully in on the bonkersness. I really enjoy Nigella - she's had a lot of shit to deal with in her life, and she has fought hard to keep the joy and the frivolity going, and I really admire her for that

The Indonesian chicken biryani looked EPIC, will definitely give that a go. I would love to try to ginger and advocaat cake, but would probably be a bit much for DP and I 😊

all her sideways glances at the camera, wide eyed looks and gushing have got far more exaggerated. She is like a parody.

that doesn't mean she's not great at what she does at all and it's not meant to take away from her achievements.

theresnolimits · 23/12/2023 19:57

I’ve never watched her before but switched on because we have Dutch family.

I thought it was dreadful. I thought she was drunk- the slurring was noticeable. I also found the innuendo and the lascivious looks at the camera embarrassing. Honestly BBC aren’t we past this? Is this how women with a good, solid professional career want to he portrayed? It may have been a ‘look’ in the ladette days, but in 2023 is this a role model for our young girls?

I came on here wondering about the reaction and am surprised it wasn’t more negative. Not denying she’s an attractive woman but it all felt so outdated. And the food looked crap. No one in Amsterdam is eating a biryani and that chopped up ginger cake thing looked so sickly.

Not for me - sorry.

Maybe running out of ideas..?
Was it last year that she stayed in a cottage and held a party in the barn..took a random Labrador for a walk and then walked through Tewkesbury grinning inanely at the lights
