Did anybody watch this?

What will you be making from it?

I might try the Christmas cup. And then eat some chips with mayonnaise on as a ‘post carousal carb’.

That first series, ‘Nigella Bites’, is very moving to watch. Her husband was writing his columns about his treatment, I think, when they were filming it. Such a courageous thing for them both to do. And they come across as very down-to-earth in it.

@SoupDragon "I can't quite believe she was on a boat for all the shots. It looked far too wide inside. Surely you can't host a party like that on a boat?"

I can-and do-in mine!!

I thought she came across as a bit ridiculous but I also wonder and question how much of that is my own internalised misogyny. What are the ways it's acceptable for a sixty-something single woman to behave when she's alone in public? She was a bit flirty and friendly with the people she came across but was she really all that over the top? She did slur and I suspect that's because of something she's done to her lips. But if that's what she wants then why not?

Nigella was on BBC breakfast earlier, no silly slurring or innuendos.

We watched Mary Berry in the Highlands as an antidote, including the completely charming Andy Murray and his granny.

Sandytoxic · 25/12/2023 14:33

Mary’s highland programme was adorable! I teach Scottish country dancing, so I was playing “spot the dancer” in the ceilidh.

I am a bit sceptical about Mary Berry tbh.

The Mary Berry programme was wonderful.

The Nigella one was just bizarre but entertaining in its own way. I find the lack of facial movement and the way she talks really distracting, and the flirting makes me cringe. She has become a pastiche of herself as time has gone on.

Elthamjohn · 29/12/2023 09:36

Do you think she might, in the end, become an avatar? Like when Abba are just holograms, but you still pay to see them?

I have just made a point of watching Mary Berry and agree with all the above. The superior programme.

Yes, she's almost like a parody of herself now. And the gauzy soft focus filter they use is so obvious. She is a gorgeous woman, but are we to pretend she has the smooth face of a young girl?

I am Dutch and my mother used to make that almond/party thing into a circle and put an egg wash on it and put lots of lovely almonds over the top, a much nicer presentation. Looked like a Christmas wreath.
