I'm quite enjoying it even though the main character is easy to dislike .

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/12/2023 17:28

Actually it's quite good and clever

OK I read a bit of Wiki and we had some time today so I put it on from the beginning and OH watched too. I like it.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 20/12/2023 07:11

thank you for the recommendation,
although the newspaper reviews were not good, i skimmed read them
watched part one last night
probably will carry on

HappydaysArehere · 20/12/2023 08:30

The lead actress is so intense and overacts constantly so just watching her is exhausting.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/12/2023 09:31

Last nights wasn't so good imo

Let's see what tonight's last episode is like

OP posts:
martinisforeveryone · 20/12/2023 13:35

It's done in a semi comedic style isn't it, and a bit fly on the wall with the actress ding a voice over. I didn't read on so don't know how it panned out in the end.
Might watch it this afternoon and come back to the thread later.

I think she portrays Melissa well ~ aggressive , not likable and out for herself .

Didn't realise there were only 3 episodes , will def be watching tonight's .

Jellykat · 20/12/2023 20:25

I've been watching, but boy its difficult to watch when you dislike the lead character so much.
People usually have one redeeming part to them, Melissa has none at all, shes just an all round narcissistic bitch! So glad the investigator lady has sussed her out.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 20/12/2023 20:47

only 3, that is a relief!

blackfluffycat · 20/12/2023 21:53

I saw this advertised she was the governor in the Australian prison tv series wasn't she?

Laughingravy · 21/12/2023 10:14

I quite enjoyed that. Yes it is very much based on a real life story but it is a drama. I liked the alternative theory narration and scenes.

In the end the real story is a pyschopathic serial thief took her own life rather than face the music - so not that exciting. Without the foot it would be much less intriguing.

I've also watched the documentary and think the medical expert just succeeds in muddying the water - which is why she was on I guess.

butterpuffed · 21/12/2023 13:16

Very good , it definitely wasn't a run of the mill true life [well, some of it] drama .
They've never found her body , is she alive , is she dead..🤔

martinisforeveryone · 21/12/2023 14:27

I haven't seen a documentary but I have read a few Australian news articles and the Wiki page. The Doctor's comments don't tell us anything we're not aware of for ourselves, from what I read, basically that a foot doesn't prove she's dead.

I know parts of the story were dramatised, but it didn't seem to stray too far and from the crimes and from the portrayal, I couldn't say it's wholly unlikely she'd have gone to ridiculous lengths to fake death and get away. There was a suggestion that her second husband knew more than he let on and the police were suspicious of the delay in him reporting her missing.

What I really wanted to know is how her son's got on. All I found so far is that his biological father was paying his school fees and that he and the second husband were in dispute over custody.

BoreOfWhabylon · 21/12/2023 17:53

The documentary is on tonight at 9pm on ITV

TitsInAbsentia · 21/12/2023 21:57

Didn't know there was a documentary too, I'll give that a watch. I am always amazed at the level of grift some people will pull!

I also watched this https://www.itv.com/watch/the-search-for-instagrams-worst-con-artist/10a2547/10a2547a0001 which again left me dumbstruck and how low some people will go!

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/12/2023 18:34

I actually thought her leg was going to be cut off

So it was all a ploy and George didn't exist

So she got away with it ?

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 22/12/2023 18:37

With her husband

OP posts:
diddl · 22/12/2023 21:22

Bloody hell that was annoying!

All I was really interested in was did the people get their money back?

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/12/2023 21:32

No they didn't

OP posts:
diddl · 22/12/2023 21:36

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/12/2023 21:32

No they didn't

Sorry, yes I saw that at the end.

It's terrible that it takes so long.

I've had a quick look on Wiki & as far as I can see what she stole far exceeds the property, cars, art, clothes etc that she had.

She must have burnt through millions!
