Seems strange it is on BBC2. More BBC3?

And not sure I will tune in but know some on this forum like a bit of witchcraft!

I see from the web site it says all 8 episodes available https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0grp58f

Which means I can binge it over New Year when there are nothing but repeats. I wonder how long they will keep it on iPlayer.

BBC Two - Mayfair Witches

A doctor discovers her family's deadly supernatural legacy - and her time has come.

I wondered if this was on here and wondered if it’d be more suited to BBC3 as you say.

I’m prepared to give it a go tonight.

cannotfindanickname · 06/12/2023 21:09

Watching. I read the books years ago. Anyone else?

Elmrosie · 06/12/2023 21:15

Yes, watching on iPlayer. Not blown away so far.

Villagetoraiseachild · 06/12/2023 21:32

Watching!

Villagetoraiseachild · 06/12/2023 21:34

Dark Pharma?

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 06/12/2023 21:37

Hmm it’s a bit high school I’m half watching thinking it’s rubbish and half thinking it’s ok.

Killing the guy from Dark Pharma, what’ll the autopsy say, heart attack?!

Charlieradioalphapapa · 06/12/2023 22:07

I’ve just watched epi 1. Was about to give up around half way because I was getting a bit confused as I’m not great with plots like this, but found myself staying with it and am now quite intrigued. Will try epi 2 tomorrow.

I binged the whole thing on Monday and Tuesday! I really enjoyed it.

Purpleavocado · 06/12/2023 22:29

I liked the books, can't wait to watch it!

Goddessonahighway · 07/12/2023 22:30

Watched all of it but that's not an endorsement. I couldn't look away. Think I would have loved it if I was 13. Not that it's suitable for 13 year olds -some bits were really unpleasant (headbanging in the basement)

EmpressaurusOfCats · 07/12/2023 22:48

How close is it to the books?

BobDylansMasterpiece · 08/12/2023 11:22

Does it have the same feel as .... oh christ, i cannot remember the name of it, book turned in to show, set around Oxford, lead woman was a dr researching, rowing boats, maybe some vampires? Couldnt get in to it, and now cant remember the name!

BobDylansMasterpiece · 08/12/2023 11:25

Ah - Discovery of Witches - I googled it

Hoolahoophop · 08/12/2023 14:10

I've not read the books but thought they were pretty graphic and unsuitable for TV?

Singleandproud · 08/12/2023 14:16

I binged it, it was ok not brilliant, not even that witchy really at least not in the way I like. Slightly Discovery of Witchesque but that's not really a compliment as they ruined the books with the rubbish show they turned it into.

mildlydispeptic · 11/12/2023 18:55

Feels a bit like the Haunting movies. The bizarre accents in the medieval bits are driving me round the twist.

magicscares · 13/12/2023 13:25

I like the show mostly. The fake Scottish accents are just awful though. I can’t concentrate on what they are meant to be saying, they are so distractingly terrible.

Marmite27 · 14/12/2023 19:56

I can’t believe they merged the characters of Micheal Curry & Aaron Lightner.

I’m not in love with it, but like a PP I can’t look away.

Goddessonahighway · 14/12/2023 20:02

It was me that couldn't look away (but not for good reasons) This isn't my normal sort of show but the combination of gothic, South and spooky caught my eye 😉 Any better shows that aren't so silly?

Singleandproud · 14/12/2023 20:03

@Goddessonahighway have you seen True blood? it's worth watching just for the theme song.

Goddessonahighway · 14/12/2023 20:10

I've heard of it but never seen it - easy enough to find. I watched American Gothic as a teenager so I'm sure that has something to do with fancying that type of programme. Guessing True Blood isn't too scary or gory? Mayflower witches actually went past my gore-o-meter.

Damnyoureyesman · 14/12/2023 22:44

The interview with the vampire tv adaptation on iPlayer is really good, gave it a go after Mayfair witches and enjoying it much more.

swimsong · 14/12/2023 23:06

Will have a look - enjoyed the trilogy a lot more than her vampires. Hope they haven't cleaned it up and polished it too much.

They did WHAT?

They did WHAT?

Exactly!
