Going into town this morning (in the rain!) and then going to the supermarket afterwards nearly finished me off Jane! I just find it all a bit of a chore

Raahh · 10/12/2023 15:01

Not been much happening really in the tennis world, but I read a couple of things re -Kyrgios this week- he's not playing the Australian Open (no surprise there, it would involve actual work to get fit enough to go)

And he's joined 'OnlyFans'. He must be short of money Grin

Fizzywinegum · 10/12/2023 19:11

Oh dear I don’t like the sound of Kyrgios being on Only Fans! Shock

I’ve also seen that Chris Evert’s cancer has returned - hope she’s going to be OK Sad

Looks as if Rafa is in Kuwait - I think he’s opened an academy there?

I finished watching the Holiday today - not sure if it’s made me feel more or less festive Grin. I’ve also spent a fortune ordering a Turkey from M&S after waking up in the middle of the night in a panic thinking that there would be no turkeys left Hmm

Hope everyone is ok and feeling more festive than I am!

JaneJeffer · 10/12/2023 19:17

Not feeling festive at all!

I don't want to think about Kyrgios but rather him being on only fans than my telly. All his fan boy commentators can watch him on there.

I'm watching P&P on BBC2. I don't like this version because they're all so scruffy and Mr. Darcy is worse looking than Mr. Collins!

OP posts:
Raahh · 10/12/2023 19:27

I am trying to get festive- I'm more stressed about pinning down ds (because it's his 21st on the 29th- so we have been trying to decide what to do, and whether he is coming home at all over Christmas week).

I am persevering with my Christmas film watching Grin.

Just watching the Strictly results- a dog has just got a bigger cheer than the dancers.

The dog, coincidentally , called Mr D'arcy Grin.

JaneJeffer · 10/12/2023 19:29

The dog, coincidentally , called Mr D'arcy
That's hilarious Grin

Our Christmas Tree is in the garage. I might drag it in tomorrow.

I was watching Pride and Prejudice Jane - I don’t think I’ve seen this version before and yes everyone does look a bit scruffy!

I can’t be doing with Keira Knightley - she acts with her teeth (another reason for not liking Love Actually!)

Well done on the festive film watching Raahh - I think I might have peaked too early having already watched The Holiday! I do want to see the Wonka film but nobody else here seems very enthusiastic about it!

JaneJeffer · 10/12/2023 20:56

I like Kiera in Atonement, she's perfect for that but she's no Elizabeth Bennet.

I love Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka and can't imagine anyone else so I've never watched the Johnny Depp version but I thought Timothée Chalamet had the right look about him so I was disappointed with the reviews on here as well!

Saw a lovely picture of Chrissie and Martina -captioned 'we're in this together'. I love that they have a genuine friendship after all this time, they have been through a lot together.

ChessieFL · 11/12/2023 10:22

I’ll go and see Wonka at some point.

Nothing can top the Colin Firth/Jennifer Ehle version of P&P in my opinion! Agree that KK is very irritating in most things but great in Atonement.

I was reading Miriam Margolyes’ book the other day - she is a tennis fan with a subscription to Tennis TV and she had this to say about Djokovic: ‘I LOATHE Djokovic; he’s an anti-vaxxer, a liar and a bully. He just happens to be a superb tennis player’. Sentiments I think we all agree with!!

Raahh · 11/12/2023 10:35

Miriam Grin
Yes, I think we can agree with her there.

I want to see Wonka- although the Wilder version will always be my favourite (Dahl wrote the screenplay, and there was a book of the play version that I had when I was about 8- I knew all the words to the Oompa Loompa songs, and it showed you how to make an elevator out of boxes.). I never really liked the Depp re-make as much.

I was sad to see Annabel leave Strictly -though she did a lot better than I expected her to, and lasted longer than she probably would have with the withdrawals they had.

Fizzywinegum · 11/12/2023 10:41

Chessie I agree about the Colin Firth/Jennifer Ehle version of P&P - Colin Firth and that wet shirt!

Also completely agree with Miriam on Djok - I didn’t realise she was such a big tennis fan

I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for Timothee Chalomet Blush - they are also showing The Snowman at our local cinema but it’s part of toddler time so I think I’ll just watch it on the telly!

I’m sure I read somewhere that Andy Murray is going to be making kedgeree on Mary Berry’s programme about Scotland but that could have been a stress induced fever dream!

ChessieFL · 11/12/2023 11:44

I read that too Fizzy so you didn’t imagine it! There’s a photo on his instagram of him and his gran with Mary Berry all wearing nice festive jumpers.

kazzaD66 · 11/12/2023 11:47

Chessie agree* *with all that.
1995 P&P cannot be beaten. And Colin Firth Blush
Yet another reason to like Miriam! Grin

Fizzy Andy* *is doing a Mary Berry programme with his nan, probably at Cromlix, but I don't know what he's cooking. Will definitely try to watch, as he's got a great sense of humour and will certainly be out of his comfort zone!

kazzaD66 · 11/12/2023 11:56

Mary Berry's Highland Christmas, Wednesday 13th Dec, 9pm BBC1.

JaneJeffer · 11/12/2023 12:16

Miriam Margolyes doesn't mince her words Grin

Fizzywinegum · 11/12/2023 13:29

Thanks everyone - glad I didn’t imagine it Grin

IceandIndigo · 11/12/2023 22:02

That’s absolutely spot on from Miriam, she’s secretly one of us!

I also much prefer the Firth/Ehle P&P, was a bit shocked to discover that there’s a whole bunch of people who prefer the KK version! She’s far too gamine and wish-washy to be Elizabeth Bennett. Not sure what I think of Timothee Chalamet but he seemed quite well cast as Wonka.

JaneJeffer · 11/12/2023 22:31

I see baby Rafa has been on court today. Filmed from a distance away but he still looks like a little cutie. The Nadals try to keep him away from the media so I think they won't be pleased about someone posting it.

Raahh · 14/12/2023 12:58

I've just seen that Jannik has won the ATP fan favourite award - only won by 5 players since it was introduced - 19 times by Roger. Rafa won it last year.

Djok must be seething Grin. Ot maybe not- I don't think Djok and the ATP really see eye to eye...

Jannik is also up for the Edberg Sportmanship award- and I definitely can't see Djok winning that one!

Fizzywinegum · 14/12/2023 13:12

Well don Jannik - no I can’t see Djok winning the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship award either!

Did anyone watch Andy Murray with Mary Berry last night? Grin

I’d like to see a proper picture of Baby Rafa - he’s bound to be cute with those parents (I still worry that him being called Rafa I think it will put a lot of pressure on him when he grows up!)

kazzaD66 · 14/12/2023 14:08

Yes, I saw Andy fizzy. His* *tenn-ish dad joke Xmas Grin He should have done it in his best Sean Connery accent Xmas Grin

Djok wouldn't have a chance of sullying the immaculate Edberg name and reputation!

I saw the other day that Dick is fed up with tennis and wants to retire. But he doesn't want to let down his friends and family, who want him to continue and fulfil his potential Hmm
Sod them! Do what you want Dick (and put us all out of our misery!) Xmas Grin

Raahh · 15/12/2023 20:12

Not surprisingly really, Carlos won the Stefan Edberg Award, and I think Jannik won annother- most improved -so not a bad year for him really.Grin.

JaneJeffer · 15/12/2023 20:13

Grin Yes- he really tried this year, did Alex- but maybe the number of smashed racquets counted against him. Grin
