I think in her attempt to be refined she just lost her deliciousness.

Yes, like one of those mature women chefs on regular MasterChef who make great food from their own culture and are told that it is delicious but too hearty or rustic, and they try to please the judges by going all restauranty and it ruins what was good about them in the first place. Always annoys me.

GrouchyKiwi · 16/11/2023 20:59

Someone needs to tell the producers that Gregg is completely superfluous in this show and they should get rid.

Agree

Molly! and Philippe! And the Tudor!

See you Chuffians next week

fourquenelles · 16/11/2023 21:01

Next week one and all

It's not as if Marcus cares about his feedback anyway.

ilovesooty · 16/11/2023 21:02

I'll be late on Monday.

See you all next week.

TheDogsMother · 16/11/2023 21:03

Next week Chuffs.

fourquenelles · 16/11/2023 21:03

I think the producers think Gregg is "every man" and is the lowly viewers eyes and ears and interpreter of all things cuisine. They underestimate just how foodie our culture is.

AutumnCrow · 16/11/2023 21:06

Thank you, Chuffs, and thank you very much for all your kind wishes Flowers

@EsmaCannonball I'm starting to have a picture in my mind of someone like Jennifer Saunders when I read your comments and it warms my cockles.

nettie434 · 16/11/2023 21:07

I think the private chefs tend to do better cooking for the critics because they are more used to show stopper menus than chefs like Ayesha who have to think more about what the public will eat.

I'm probably grumpy because it was my least favourite critics tonight. I was delighted Tom did so well though.

AutumnCrow · 16/11/2023 21:29

If it all just depend on two courses they cook for the critics, why even bother with the previous rounds? Cecily and the Norfolk Prince not as good overall compared to Ayesha.

(I know we say this all the time!)

Hopefully Ayesha's Middle Eastern Pantry will at least be a fab blog for her.

Sunbird24 · 17/11/2023 19:08

Puppet MasterChef on Children in Need…
Probably better than some of the actual contestants!

TerfTalking · 19/11/2023 07:06

Thanks all for your splendid thread. I’ve just caught up on Replay whilst simultaneously reading your updates.

not remotely surprised to discover Tristan went to Le Cordon Bleu cookery school where courses are £43k for nine months with no government loans.

Molly and Tom are my favourites. Looking forward to next week.

ChicoryDip · 19/11/2023 10:36

And for those of us that can't remember the contestants from one week to the next...

I'd like Molly, Kyle and Tom to do well. I also like Philippe but I have a feeling he may be one of the next to go.

Lots of caviar this year. Cost of living crisis where?

And turbot. I wonder if the crew bring very large Tupperware boxes to take stuff home. “Got a nice turbot tonight dear, only four potions missing” . Not to mention all the fresh stuff in the back room. “ Only managed to snaffle six mangoes , five avocados and a case of dragon fruit. That new Lisa from make up turns out to have very sharp elbows, no lobsters left at all.”

Thanks for sharing Chicory. I saw it on Facebook but hadn't noted the time for Monday's show. 8pm, all!

ilovesooty · 19/11/2023 11:37

8pm on Monday? Sadly I will have to watch on catch up. See you for the episode after.

CurlewKate · 19/11/2023 11:37

I think Phillipe is going to win. So long as his English is good enough to understand the brief. Worried after the 17 minute misunderstanding.

CarlaH · 19/11/2023 11:42

I really don't think Philippe can be very bright. What sort of result can anybody achieve in 17 minutes and what sort of programme would give such a bizarre time limit.

Actually thinking about it a little bit more he was already past the 17 minute mark when he was advised to do something a bit more complicated so surely, by that point, he would have realised his mistake and cracked on with something additional.

fourquenelles · 19/11/2023 14:27

Dagnabbit I have a dinner party invite Monday evening. I wonder if I can persuade host to have telly on?

CurlewKate · 19/11/2023 14:38

@CarlaH Yes, it was strange. But they had just done the 20 minute challenge-maybe his brain just fixated on that. I do think that someone should have asked him whether he understood, though.

Cookingdoesntgettougher · 19/11/2023 22:50

Caught up ready for tomorrow. Agree that food is sometimes called “rustic” just because it is not served in the delicate way it would be classic French way. That includes traditional British foods like stew or Yorkshire pudding as well as curries and other food.
