Not sure which number we’re on now - 7?
In time for a Christmas special too, though last year’s will take some beating!

I’m maybe late to the party, but have any of you seen The Scotts? There are three seasons on iPlayer, and it’s really funny. Much funnier than this season of TDD.

We found this last week just by chance and binged S1 in an evening!

ChocolateTVandbaby · 30/12/2023 08:18

I may have to look up the Scots too

i almost started watching Royle family a few days ago

AgentProvocateur · 30/12/2023 14:38

@TitsInAbsentia - that’s exactly what I did. Found it as an iPlayer recommendation and binged it over a week. It must have been very low profile - I’ve recommended it to everyone and no one had seen it.

Belindabelle · 30/12/2023 16:35

I have watched the Scotts and enjoyed it but I haven’t seen the new season yet.

The actors/writers in the Scotts are also in the sketch show Burniston which is similar to Chewin the Fat.

FitAt50 · 30/12/2023 17:16

Not really a fan of The Scotts, far fetched storylines and over acting. Much prefer the gentle humour of 2 doors down.

TitsInAbsentia · 30/12/2023 20:36

I've got a load of BBC Scotland shows on record for tomorrow night - so much better than the shite they put on down here!

AnUnreasonableWoman · 30/12/2023 21:18

We watched The Scotts in a TDD hiatus but didn't warm to it in quite the same way - it's a bit more cartoony. Whereas TDD lulls you into a false sense of 'oh, these people are normal enough' before hitting you with Christine's sociopathic sense of entitlement and Cathy's monstrous rudeness.

ChocolateTVandbaby · 30/12/2023 22:03

I just started watching the Wilds - bit different!

OfMiceandWomen · 02/01/2024 00:16

We have binge watched TDD over Christmas and really loved the gentle humour.
I loved Christine and I wish they could have brought her daughter back or at least recast her.
Beth was such a door mat and drove me mad
I think they missed a good opportunity of having Annemaire and Cathy meet.
I didn’t like Cathy she was such a horrible character and nobody ever seemed to call her out on her behaviour

duc748 · 02/01/2024 00:27

But people don't, surely, that's the truth of it? Faced with a domineering character like Christine, most people back down, most of the time, rather than 'make a scene'? Agree about Annemaire and Cathy, though.

jay55 · 02/01/2024 12:44

Thanks for the thread, I got lucky, when I went to watch the latest series I realised I'd not seen the previous one so got to enjoy the Cathy free season and glorious Costa Christmas episode for the first time.

I didn't actually mind the return of Cathy, but the wedding stuff I found quite heartbreaking.

Wingdingz · 02/01/2024 13:20

I agree about the wedding episode - poor Michelle! The strength of TDD is that it's capable of being genuinely heartbreaking at unexpected moments, and the actors are good enough to carry both the humour and the tragedy.

duc748 · 20/01/2024 00:30

I'm miles back on this, but there's great stuff in nearly every ep.

"That's why I always sleep in all my jewellery; when I come down in the morning for my breakfast, I'm like Mr T" 😂
