I think the Angelas and Annabel might be in trouble this week.

Agree wholeheartedly with whoever said Bobby is doing very well to co-ordinate his endless limbs. They’re so long, he must actually have to factor in a time delay for the signals from his brain to get to the extremities.

covetingthepreciousthings · 12/11/2023 12:15

I'm hoping this works to share but thought I'd share this comment I saw on instagram by Arlene Philips.

I do think Craig should have given them a 10..

I agree but y'all know how it works by now - Layton will reprise the AT in the final where it will then get 40! Wink

Yes.
And Ellie will still win.

EvilRingahBitch · 12/11/2023 12:34

It was amazing.
Was it a perfect AT? I think the lack of closeups in the filming maybe hampered the drama - it was great to see them dancing full length but that came at the expense of some of the facial acting, and of course it was a very fast song which meant you couldn't have those lingering moment of tension which I love. Ideally you'd see a bit more A-frame as well.

So if I was marking out of 1,000 I'd give it 975. But out of 10? On Strictly? It's a 10.

KimberleyClark · 12/11/2023 14:22

All caught up now, couldn’t watch last night. It should definitely have been a 10. DH said “I wonder if he’s jealous or something?”

Found Ellie’s rumba to jerky, not enough flow. It’s meant to be languorous and dreamy.

will be Angela R and Krishnan in the dance off and I’m hoping they don’t save Angela again. There’s not much further she can go, she’s running out of dances she can do. Krishnan can still improve.

MavisMcMinty · 12/11/2023 14:32

Craig likes to be the meanie, the one who rarely gives 10s, and to be fair, a 10 from Craig means much more than a 10 from any of the other (often over-excitable) judges.

On a previous thread someone pointed out that Craig likes to give his first 10 at Blackpool, so maybe that’s a factor too.

Clawdy · 12/11/2023 14:36

Didn't think Ellie went to stage school? Wasn't she in Coronation Street from primary school age?

Iverymuchdoubtitdarling · 12/11/2023 14:57

I don’t enjoy watching RAngela dance, and being over marked spoils the magic of Strictly for me because it reminds me it’s fixed.

I feel like this.

And the faint praise that they damn Krishnan with "but you gave it a go" "you had a go at doing it and I applaud you for that" "you're enjoying it so we enjoy it" "what it lacked in hip action it made up for in personality"type things.

Compared to the praise they lavish on AngelaR grinds my gears a bit.

Fairness is a big thing for me.

I do think that whatever happens in tonight’s episode, surely the judges have been told to get RAngela to Blackpool No Matter What. DH and I have been saying this for weeks - she’s not going anywhere until the Blackpool episode is done and dusted.

Ellmau · 12/11/2023 16:04

Actually, I think Angela R would get more votes if the judges were harsher on her.

covetingthepreciousthings · 12/11/2023 16:14

It's not on till 7.20pm tonight, wish it were on later on Saturday and earlier on Sunday.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 12/11/2023 17:11

Just thinking about the definition of a ringer, especially re Ellie who's apparently had ballet and tap lessons (and it shows). I remember Alisha Dixon saying she'd only had a very few dance lessons as a child because her mum couldn't afford them, and Arlene's response being that any little girl who's been to a ballet class or two will have learned something. On that basis, I suppose Ellie's somewhere between those contestants with no formal dance experience at all and the real ringers who've come through stage school or whatever. (Layton's in a class of his own.)

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 12/11/2023 17:19

A pp said Krishnan's the perfect Strictly contestant. For me, it's Ellie, half ringer, half improver. I like Krish but the show wouldn't be as good if all the contestants were at his level imho.

covetingthepreciousthings · 12/11/2023 17:20

Can anyone say where Danny Mac sits on the ringer scale? Was he at a similar level to Layton? I do find it slightly odd that so many believe he was robbed of the title but yet so many are begrudging Layton even doing the show.

chocolateisavegetable · 12/11/2023 17:23

Dictionary definition of ringer: “one that enters a competition under false representations.” So only really applicable to someone who has tried to cover up their experience.

MavisMcMinty · 12/11/2023 17:42

Of course ballet classes will give people pretty pointed toes and nice arms and a decent core, but the only dance I can imagine it giving you an advantage in is the rumba, and maybe the AT. I did years of ballet but can’t “disco dance” to save my life!

Sholkedabemus · 12/11/2023 17:44

I really want AR to go, she’s done her best. I’m still loving Krishnan, I feel joy when I watch him dance. I think Bobby could be so much better, with the right partner. Nigel leaves me a bit cold. There’s no denying Layton can dance, but………

Shame no one told my two left feet that years of ballet would help me. Just my mum spent years and heaps of money trying 😁

MouseMinge · 12/11/2023 17:46

Looking up Danny Mac, he did some musical theatre before being on Strictly but I'm not sure how much dance there was in his roles because I don't know the musicals well enough to say. He was in Les Mis, definitely not a dancing role, Legally Blonde, no idea and Wicked as an understudy. Since Strictly he's done musicals like On The Town which if it's anything like the film is a lot of glorious Gene Kelly dancing. My guess is he went on the show to get more musical theatre work whilst already having some experience. Unlike Layton he wasn't already a star of West End musicals which doesn't mean he wasn't a ringer, he clearly was, but thus far no one has out-ringed the ringiest ringer of all time, Layton.

MouseMinge · 12/11/2023 17:48

If AR is in the dance-off with anyone other than Krishnan and doesn't go home then it's a travesty. I'd rather he stays over her but can't see that happening if it's them. If it's her against anyone else, the other dancer will deserve to stay because they were all better than her in terms of skill. I'd argue that Krishnan was better than her in terms of fun and joy but that doesn't count.

Lampzade · 12/11/2023 17:50

Lottapianos · 12/11/2023 10:39

I think Angela R and Krishnan for dance off, and of course they will save Angela. I love Krishnan and he's done well but I would be fine with him going tonight

Cried at Ellie's rhumba. Beautiful, and such a lovely song

Annabel's samba was surprisingly good, I was ready to hide behind the cushion but she did well

Layton - well I don't massively warm to him, and he's definitely had his dodgy weeks, but that was spectacular. He really does put the work in and him and Nikita are fabulous together

Another shite outfit for Nigel but a great dance. He's brilliant at the side by side stuff, but it all seems to go a bit wrong in hold. I love that his wife buggered off to Paris with the neighbours instead of coming to see him 😁

Agree that Layton puts the work in .
I know he is a ringer but I really enjoyed his AT.

MavisMcMinty · 12/11/2023 17:55

People saved Krishnan from the dance-off last week and didn’t save RAngela. I have hope. Could be someone from the top half of the board, which is why I voted for Ellie, SAngela and Nigel. Lots of Krishnan voters on here last night, I think he’ll get to Blackpool.
