Yes was he Pork Pie or something

I just googled and Porkpie was a spin off of Desmond's.

eggandonion · 02/12/2023 19:53

Does he have money or no money? He had lots of shopping in fancy bags. Nobody ever has bags from Primark or WH Smith or ordinary shops. Or a tatty freshco bag for life.

It was so sad what happened to Norman Beaton, who played Desmond. They ended the series because he wanted to retire back to Guyana (which was exactly what Desmond had always wanted in the show). He got off his flight, had a heart attack at the airport and was dead within the hour 😢

Sorry for the sad derail!

He had enough to fly from the carribbean to england and buy gifts just to ask for 2 grand so it is a ridiculous storyline.

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 03/12/2023 00:11

Does anyone feel sorry for Gemma? I’m trying to feel some sympathy/empathy but can’t.
Chesney didn’t look at all bothered by the situation. I suppose it’s one less ‘child’ for him to parent. Gemma has become helpless and gradually more immature over the last few months.

StockpotSoup · 03/12/2023 00:30

I did feel a bit sorry for Gemma when Chesney told her she was a loon for constantly taking Joseph to the hospital, but then went mad when she thought he was crying wolf when he felt sick. It did seem like she couldn’t win.

On the other hand, I don’t like either of them enough to care long term.

Also, isn’t he about 103? Why is he still running a business?

Summermeadowflowers · 03/12/2023 08:41

It’s Gemma’s shouting - she never seems believably upset because she’s constantly bellowing. I actually have so much compassion for women who have children removed and it almost always makes me uneasy (obviously some cases they absolutely should be) but we never see evidence of Gemma being a ‘great man’ because the quads are never there!

Jitterybugs · 03/12/2023 09:09

Gemma should have run away with Henry Newton when he declared his undying love for her in the most unbelievable ever Corrie storyline 😆

zanahoria · 04/12/2023 10:27

So the social worker comes round and declares that Gemma is under suspicion of deliberately poisoning Joseph then makes everyone a cup of tea?

Weatherfield Social Services are an odd bunch. Eliza was removed from Stu's care even though he has legal custody, the social worker looked like she did not want to get involved.

Deadringer · 04/12/2023 20:09

I have an awful feeling that grandpa Bailey is here to stay.
Didn't Genma used to sell make up/skincare products? Not a great ad for them is she? I hope SS do a full assessment and explain to Ches and Gemma that they are owed a small fortune in benefits and are entitled to a much bigger house, far from Wetherfield.

GrandTheftWalrus · 04/12/2023 20:24

What happened with bernie in the court? I couldn't hear it.

Viviennemary · 04/12/2023 20:39

Anyone else finding CS really boring at the minute. Not one intersting story line, tonights episode one of the worse. A total load of nonsense. Not interesting or funny. Bernie got six weeks in prison.

lollipoprainbow · 04/12/2023 20:44

Like bad amateur dramatics ! Nina catching Isla and asha mid arm wrestle. Yawn

WiddlinDiddlin · 05/12/2023 05:12

It is testing even my die hard Coronation St loyalty - Nina can't act, Gemma can't act, the Asha and Isla scenes were cringe-tastic, the Dev and Bernie scenes ditto (and her wot plays Bernie CAN bloody act if she's given a decent script)...

It is bleedin' obvious SS need to see Jawseph ill without Gemma around, and for medics to figure out there is something wrong with him.

They missed a trick too, SS lady should have come in and seen Gemma rummaging in the tin for pills for Joseph, but no mention was made of that. Also why didn't they interview Bernie who could corroborate the 'I gave her lavender teabags AND lavender oil and vague instructions for the use of both' story...

I still don't understand how Stu has legal custody and SS have just handed wotshername off to DisneyDad without a second thought!

Coronation St SS are a law unto themselves, seemingly.

3 months whittled down to 6 weeks as far as i could tell so basically shes off on a holiday till the last few weeks of pauls life.

thenightsky · 05/12/2023 10:17

Who was watching the quads when Chesney got summoned to 'come and get your wife' because she was wrecking that man's van contents?

There's always someone"minding the quads" at a moment's notice in Corrie fantasy world. 😐

I no longer think of Chesney as Chesney. He's the Quadfather to me. 😁

Dunno why these two don't just split up they clearly are growing apart and not happy

Honeyroar · 05/12/2023 14:48

What did Bernie actually do? I can’t remember. Was it her impersonation of the other woman?

Getupat8amnow · 05/12/2023 14:54

I agree that Coronation Street is absolutely boring. I have watched avidly for decades but now when it’s on I have it as background noise rather then give it my complete attention like I used to. I watch Classic Corrie and the difference in quality of script, storylines, investment in characters is startling.

The current writing team need replacing with writers who know the programme’s history and can mix the serious story with portraying daily life and having ALL the characters mix together rather than the isolated character groups with their own isolated storylines. The production needs an overhaul, it has not recovered from the pandemic.

If you look at Emmerdale that has recovered, The Woolpack pub is a hub for the community and the characters have depth and interact with each other.

To work a soap opera drama production MUST be character led not issue led. It is a great shame that the once great Coronation Street is now a sad shadow of its former self. It really is boring now with many boring characters.

It was some nonsense over handling stolen laptops with Shelley (who died) to make about tuppence ha'penny to buy things for Our Paul because apparently his PIP don't even get me started hadn't come through.

And of course the Archdeacon Billy Prayerhands has no money or wages or assets. There's only Bernie and her Faginesque activities to keep Our Paul in mobility aids.

Edited

Totally agree with all of this.
Corrie was always character led and the current writing team seem intent on using the show as a social issue platform without having a real grasp of the issues they are hi-lighting.
Every episode seems to end with announcer making the "and if you have been affected by.....please contact our helpline" speech.

Freysimo · 05/12/2023 17:33

Agree it's currently rubbish but it's always in the top ten most watched programmes! Daran Little was a brilliant Corrie writer, really understood Northern women especially. Sadly he left in 2010 and writes for Eastenders now.
