I also think that he was expecting to be a massively shocking centre of attention "ta da" contestant. The build up in the press- him apparently insisting on a male partner, he's going to wear women's clothes him already being a professional dancer etc etc. While the only one of those that's garnering a reaction is the last one.
I actually thought he seemed (in the Clauditorium) quite subdued- I mean, he kept dropping "I'm out, I'm me" into every sentence as if he was expecting a reaction, but he just didn't get one. And why should he? It's 2023, he's not the first openly gay contestant, he's not the first contestant to dance with someone the same sex. When the camera wasn't on him, he almost seemed uncomfortable to be sitting there. Kept fiddling with his hands and looking down and was always a second late reacting to what other people were saying.
I think he's actually going to prove to be quite fragile. And I'll probably end up feeling sorry for him.
But by heck the J- word and the weeping nans are going to be something else.
It's going to be an interesting ride for sure.
