Anyone else watched this? I just finished it. Not sure what to make of the ending but I found the series really enjoyable (crazy and far fetched but enjoyable!) Beautiful setting too. Looks like it might be setting up for a second season?

I tried to watch this but it's bad, the acting is just 😆

gillygeey · 03/09/2023 11:00

Like it had been dubbed into English or something

Was it not dubbed? I thought it was

BitOutOfPractice · 03/09/2023 11:02

I don’t think so @gillygeey but it gave me that vibe. The lead actress is Swedish, playing an Englishwoman in Spain so maybe that didn’t help.

the80sweregreat · 03/09/2023 11:05

Dh liked it because it had action , shootings , a glamorous lead and fast paced. When I mentioned the extras not even noticing the blood and gore around them ( plus people running about suspiciously in hospitals etc ) I just received a shrug ! 😂

the80sweregreat · 03/09/2023 11:07

It also looked as if it had been filmed through plastic too. I thought it was dubbed too

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 03/09/2023 11:08

‘I watched it all. It annoyed me that after 5 years and married to a local neither the mother or the daughter had bothered to learn the language. How did a nurse and a schoolteacher afford to live in what seemed to be a fairly exclusive area?’

Maybe she sold one of the gold bars she had in her bag with her when she arrived.

the80sweregreat · 03/09/2023 11:13

That tap annoyed me, it didn't work properly for ages!
Her English boss man was tasty though
But again, he has that fake accent they all seem to have when playing the 'posh English man'

foxlover47 · 03/09/2023 11:14

I watched it only for Jamie bamber 😍 ( the English boss )

Eh? Jamie Bamber is from London. That's his real accent.

the80sweregreat · 03/09/2023 11:29

Oh, sorry , didn't know the actor !

gillygeey · 03/09/2023 11:32

@BitOutOfPractice maybe it was that, I couldn't work it out.

gillygeey · 03/09/2023 11:36

Jamie Bamber

He could be Louis Tomlinsons older brother! Sorry off topic

the80sweregreat · 03/09/2023 14:02

Looked up Jamie Bamber , he is posh isn't he!
I've not seen him in anything before

I'm surprised so few people know him. He's been in quite a few biggish TV series and been quite successful over the years. He had a starring role in the remake of Battlestar Galactica (which ran for four series and was critically acclaimed in the US) as well as being one of the leads in Law & Order UK (with Bradley Walsh) and also appeared in one series of Strike Back.

littleducks · 03/09/2023 15:04

I am so surprised that it wasn't dubbed according to this thread I was convinced it was and that's why it seemed out of sync

Crinkle77 · 03/09/2023 18:46

I kind of enjoyed it in a so bad it was good way. If it had been more than 7 episodes I might have given up. It's supposed to be a limited series but they left the ending wide open for a second series with the reappearance of her old boss and they still didn't reveal her real name. Erin Carter was also a name in the list of dead children when she picked out the Kate Jones pseudonym when she joined the gang.

I am really surprised at that. First saw him in Law and Order Uk. Also he seems to specialise in roles where appears to be 'Mr Nice' in a secondary character role who turns out to be the baddie. Spoils it a bit as when I see him playing the supportive husband I know it'll turn out he's the baddie!

VeloVixen · 03/09/2023 21:29

It took me to the last episode to realise it was set in two time periods/flashbacks. So I was really confused

WhineyVaginey · 03/09/2023 21:36

"Hate watched" it with my dd 😁. Absolutely addictive, loved Penelope & wished she'd have dispatched of all the other characters, run off with Harper (and the bullion) get them both some trauma therapy & then settled down to a lively life.
Barcelona looked divine.
We can't wait for series 2.

hattie43 · 03/09/2023 21:36

I've just lost interest tbh saw up to chapter 4 and struggling to finish it

WhineyVaginey · 03/09/2023 21:39

*lovely life even! But I'm guessing with 'Harps' huge attitude lively would be more like it😁

TheClitterati · 04/09/2023 07:24

I watched 2 episodes but found the overdubbing of the voices too annoying to proceed any further.

I don't think they are dubbing another language as the actors seem to be speaking English. But they have recorded and overdubbed the dialogue and it's very irritating. Why would they do that?

I wonder if it’s because it’s the easiest way to do dubbing into lots of different languages for Netflix. Maybe having a completely separate speech track is more straightforward than recording it for real and having to replace bits of it.

TheClitterati · 04/09/2023 20:21

if they keep doing it I will give up TV completely 😁

NeedToThinkOfOne · 05/09/2023 08:32

If Jack Bauer and Lara Croft had a love child? Rampaging through the lovely suburbs of Barcelona (where ALL the ex pats from the Home Counties lived) whilst single-handedly defeating entire crime gangs and getting beaten up and shot at - around lesson planning for a teaching job- but with barely a scratch on her, until a bullet in the last episode finally opened a wound. Good news though, a domestic first aid kit was on hand to patch that up and nobody at the fancy club questioned why she was covered in blood, meeting another injured woman, so all is good.

Erin/Kate seemed a good actress, despite the strange dubbing action in some scenes across the series, but even the handsome husband and lovely Rightmove vibes couldn’t save it for me.

p.s. what happened to the gold? Where did the real mum of child leave it, given that she was clearly just visiting Spain on an ‘escaped prisoner from the U.K’ visa?
