He goes on abit too much for me

Brumbies · 30/08/2023 08:45

Why wasn't Steve at the dinner party? He had more right than any of the newbies some had never stepped inside the apartment before that night.

As for Aiden, no way should she have kept him in her bed, she sold her old place and bought the new one for him. She didn't do that even for Big.

Samantha phoning was unnecessary - everyone knows they hate each other irl, what was the point?

Having said that I still enjoyed the season, apart from Che!

SequinsandStiIettos · 30/08/2023 16:44

The Samantha Cameo was just meant to be for the fans apparently. But cynical me, says it was absolutely leaked on purpose for PR/to attract audiences for the finale.
Good for Kim Cattrall though - £790,000 for 20 lines and only took four hours to film (although why it took that long is anyone's guess). Kerching! Canny lass!

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/08/2023 19:08

Nearly£800k so £200k an hour

Fuck me !!!

GellerYeller · 30/08/2023 20:54

I actually think good for her too @SequinsandStiIettos. I’d have done the same for that sort of money on those terms. She’s given them a shot of publicity and her fans a final(maybe) glimpse of Samantha. Fair play.

OK I clearly have too much time to think about these things but did anyone notice that in the Carrie/Aidan sex scenes at the end, SJP was topless. It was the first time to my knowledge that she has ever allowed herself to be filmed without a bra, negligee etc. I think it was meant to symbolise a new sense of freedom, of letting go of expectations, of really coming into herself, with or without a man. Or something! I am way over-thinking this aren't I? 🤣

I noticed that too!

SequinsandStiIettos · 30/08/2023 21:40

I noticed that three!

Bringbackniles · 30/08/2023 22:15

Apologies if this has been mentioned but did anyone else think SJP made a couple of digs at KC during her cameo scene?

SJP wore a top that said ' Cover Girl' and then after she and KC hung up, she said to her kitten, I don't need any more drama...

I think its all pointed.

But then again, AJLT misses so many obviously incorrect references to the OG series and seems oblivious to what the viewers see as blindingly obvious faux pas and errors that maybe this is all just a coincidence!

SequinsandStiIettos · 30/08/2023 22:26

No, I noted the "drama" comment and thought it was a not-so-subtle dig but could be explained away if questioned.

43ontherocksporfavor · 31/08/2023 21:45

Missing AJLT tonight. 😕

Apologies if this has already been posted but here you go

I like the part about 'Samantha Jones's zingers have been replaced by Chez Diaz laughing at their own jokes'Grin

That was a big discussion point on the AJLT threads, Carrie saying Big was a mistake. There were some thoughts that it might have been a way of distancing from the actor, Chris Noth.

'Carrie saying Big was a mistake. There were some thoughts that it might have been a way of distancing from the actor, Chris Noth.'

Hmm, thats an interesting theory.

yes I was on those threads too and think there is a grain of truth in that @aqiarious
will be interesting to see what happens with CHris Noth in real life with all of that won’t it.

can only imagine the mauling Che would have received at the hands of Samantha. Their place at the head of the table next to Carrie was just abysmal too.

Rewatching s1….

TheYadaYada · 01/09/2023 23:39

I just caught 2 episodes of SATC on some random channel.

This confirmed my theory re Steve’s ludicrous accent in AJLT. He had a normal NY accent originally. Wonder why he felt it necessary to adopt that OTT Brooklyn thing.

Also, Charlotte (Kristen) could actually act! And without all the fillers, she could speak normally.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 02/09/2023 06:41

@TheYadaYada Kristin Davis was a phenomenal actress in SATC. Many posters have commented on here and on other threads 'oh it's all the fillers' but I honestly can't believe it's this that's had such a dramatic effect on her acting ability. I just recently saw an interview with Mickey Rourke and you don't get a facial transformation more dramatic than his.. and he spoke completely 'normally.' Many actors/actresses have fillers and cosmetic procedures and it doesn't seem to have affected their ability to act. KD has turned into an overacting ham like Al Pacino has. I find any of her scenes practically unwatchable and I just don't get it. In the scene right at the end of an episode where Seema unexpectedly joins everyone for a meal.. Charlotte goes 'Oh I thought Seema couldn't come.. here she is now!' And it honestly sounded like she was reading the stage direction from a script. It's baffling. Charlotte was my favourite of the 4 and I don't know where she's gone. It makes me sad Confused

Ridemeginger · 02/09/2023 08:17

Re Kristen Davis, I do think the scripts and storylines for her (and by extension, Evan Handler) were largely poor. It reminds me of Friends and the Monica character. Courtney Cox acted the character like a normal and believable person in the first couple of seasons, and she had a bit of depth and nuance (and was clearly a good actress). By the last series, it was all shouting lines (she went from having a pleasant voice to being really shrill and loud), wild gestures, exaggerated facial movements - a total caricature - and the storylines for the character were rubbish and she was the most unpopular of them all with viewers. It was as if the only way to keep the character interesting or make her stand out was to make her very over the top.

Ridemeginger · 02/09/2023 08:33

Just to add. If there’s no drama or conflict for the character, there’s nowhere for them to go other than over the top “look at me” acting to compensate. KD/Charlotte’s principle role seemed to be announcing that someone had arrived or such mundane stuff. The times when they could have given the character some proper conflict (and thus shown some acting chops) were the conflicts with the children, especially with Rose/Rock and Lily sex. But the writers copped out of that with a much more anodyne portrayal of parenting that just accepts everything children want to do, and even facilitating it (very much reflecting their own liberal agenda/wish fulfilment of happy rainbow family life where kids are trusted with adult decisions and parents never argue back). She had a couple of good-ish scenes, where the acting was markedly better, perhaps because they gave her character something meaty to deal with (notably the back to work rant); but otherwise, I think a very underused and under developed Charlotte, whose only way to stand out in a sea of new characters was to shout her lines.

aqiarious · 02/09/2023 10:29

In absolute agreement with all of you about Charlotte. She was my favourite character in SATC. Now she is like a caricature with OTT expressions and acting. Is she trying to be comedic because it doesn't work. There's a marked difference. I think they tried to give her a couple of what would have been Samantha's lines too and that doesn't work either.

AIstolemylunch · 02/09/2023 11:01

I thought Miranda also absolutely butchered her previous character, which is strange considering she's one of the producers. She was a shit hot corporate lawyer and they turned her into an absolute airhead. That scene on the beach when she lost her mobile phone was ludicrous. No one that had battled through corporate world in NY in the nineties would fall apart like that. At least they redeemed her a bit at the end when she went back to work and started behaving reasonably professionally again.

aqiarious · 02/09/2023 11:55

I agree that Miranda redeemed herself near the end of the series. Thank goodness for that 😀

tribpot · 02/09/2023 13:32

Yes, I can really see how Charlotte has become like later series Monica Geller. With Friends they couldn't really let the characters evolve very much as you'd got an extraordinarily lucrative winning formula. AJLT that was a chance to reset, and show us characters who really had moved on 20 years. But because these writers barely seem to have even watched the original series we've got Charlotte hamming it up, Miranda mutating into a different and extremely unpleasant character (now somewhat redeeming herself but the jury is out) and Carrie becoming less of a self-obsessed monster but still without any real empathy for others and no degree of self-reflection.
