ReeseW, yes I think the same about LTW & Herbert. Them hugging in bed was far more intimate than Carrie & Aidan’s sex scenes.
And the way Carrie didn’t even go mad when Aidan blew up their plans… She’s just going to live in the fancy new pad with her cat now?
Plus, I really wanted the Hamptons! Not Seema & Carrie ok some windy beach in Greece (clearly not in Greece at all).

I care enough about the characters, but I don’t care about their relationships. We’re not seeing enough “bonding”.

Miranda’s relationship with Che didn’t have enough to it to destroy a twenty year marriage.

There were no really lovely scenes showing Carrie and Seema develop a friendship outside of real estate (there was one in a bar but it lacked chemistry).

We saw a bit more between Miranda and Nya but it still wasn’t that warming.

Anthony’s Italian wants to leave him because he’s got too many walls and won’t let him in, but we’ve not seen it.

And the biggie…. Carrie and Aidan. Zero scenes of them falling back in love. A quick chat over the initial dinner which mainly revolved around Big.

Plus… if you’d never watched SATC or not seen it in years, they don’t do that well portraying Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda as “soul mates”.

I think the reason we all love LTW and her husband is because we’re actually seeing a bit more about their relationship. We care about their relationship and not just as individual people.

This is really well put.

Interesting about Apple product placement. Wasn’t Miranda’s problems with her new Android the thing that put the first nail in the coffin between her and Che (the ringer going off during the pilot ). Bit of rival product dissing.

Lentilweaver · 27/08/2023 13:08

They are all very athletic and energetic shaggers, aren't they? After a long party like that, I would probably want to retire to bed with a cup of cocoa, and they are all older than me. Certainly cocoa would be more appealing than Aiden after he dropped his bombshell.

Andylion · 27/08/2023 14:12

Another thing about Smoke’s boyfriend, whatever his name is, when, and, for god’s sake, how, did Carrie develop a friendship with him?

i have a horrible memory, but didn’t he mock her during the podcast? Then, the podcast is over, and suddenly, this season, they are meeting for coffee/lunch whatever. I would have thought that one benefit of the podcast being cancelled was never having to put up with his crap anymore.

Gowlett · 27/08/2023 14:28

Andylion; yes he is the sort of person you’d be glad to leave behind once you finish working together. As is Che.

His character reminds me of someone you might meet on Sesame Street - like Elmo’s big brother.

Gowlett · 27/08/2023 15:58

Ha ha… Maybe the writer was WFH with a toddler, when they wrote that character!

The entire podcast was about breaking down sexual boundaries - the modern term for sexual coercion and shaming people into doing things they don’t want to, imo. Jackie’s thing was masturbating on public transport iirc. Che was always forcing Carrie to talk about sexual things she didn’t want to (in the first episode, Carrie did some “research” involving Big and masturbation). Why Carrie was on it is a mystery. She was always sexually conservative, and her column was more about relationships than sex. Why she stayed friends with either of them is an even bigger mystery. I think the writers were trying to line up Jackie as a substitute Stanford in the second series.

43ontherocksporfavor · 27/08/2023 17:34

I agree. Sex and the City was definitely about dating in NYC. The public masturbation podcast was so cringe. I think that’s illegal. Awareness and tolerance of all sexual persuasions is one thing, indecent exposure, quite another.

I think what’s even more improbable is that she’s in a relationship with that guy Jackie who is all kinds of annoying 🤣

To be fair, the actor (comedian) is just as bad in real life and he has a hot wife. 😂

Doesn’t surprise me!

dayswithaY · 28/08/2023 07:45

The podcast was ages ago, they are now just a random group of ex work colleagues with nothing in common. Why were they all seated next to Carrie at the dinner while her new friends were down the other end? And if they’re such a tight knit bunch why aren’t any of them still friends with Carrie’s ex - producer Franklin? And why wasn’t the bossy girl in a wheelchair invited? She’s just as obnoxious as Jackie.

And Smoke missing out on Carrie wearing her Dunelm curtains dress to the Met “Gala” (note they don’t say Ball, must be trademarked), she’s absolutely fine with that? All her hard work and then she was let down by her seamstress and Carrie just threw on her old wedding dress instead?

This series just stirs up old SATC fans.

SheilaFentiman · 28/08/2023 07:53

@dayswithaY the dunelm curtains dress wasn’t finished, Carrie couldn’t wear it

Yes, I watched the whole episode - thanks.

I just think there would have been some awkwardness about Smoke missing her big break and Carrie having to wear her wedding dress.

I’m confused, who do you think should be feeling awkward?

I thought she shrugged that off too easily. I'd have been a bit cross.

dayswithaY · 28/08/2023 13:32

It was just an awkward situation. They didn’t know each other that well, Smoke was tasked with making an outfit for a world famous event, she got let down by her seamstress. Carrie was left pacing up and down while Smoke furiously sewed the Dunelm curtains until the last minute when Carrie had to wear the wedding dress she got jilted in.

I mean, did Carrie pay her? Did they ever discuss it again? Just awkward all round!

Ilovealido · 28/08/2023 14:32

You can imagine the AIBU thread for the above!

Carrie didn’t wear the Dunelm dress, because Smoke begged her not to. Smoke had been unable to get it to fit correctly and fasten, and was trying to do some sort of lace up tie thing at the back, which was looking shit. Smoke told Carrie she could not wear it, because if she did, it would be seen to be awful, and ruin her career before it started. That’s when she asked Carrie to wear something else, Carrie was shocked Smoke expected her to just find something suitable in her closet, then remembered the Vivien Westwood. However, Smoke had already made and fitted a beautiful turquoise cape thingy that originally was for the Dunelm dress, but went nicely with Carrie’s wedding dress and blue bird headdress. So she did wear Smoke’s beautiful cape to the Met, and saved Smoke’s bacon with the VW dress. If anyone should have been put out by the situation, it was Carrie. Smoke still got her cape creation featured at the Met and should be happy. Carrie’s final missive in the episode showed she was happy wearing the VW and “freeing her pain”. It was a win win situation for them both in the end. I’m not sure it was a buy the dress situation, as Carrie was the one doing Smoke a favour in the first place, by showcasing an unknown designer. I don’t see any need for awkwardness at all (although as last supper guests, I really don’t think that Jackie or Smoke were guests deserving of the invitation).

SequinsandStiIettos · 28/08/2023 16:00

All the above. Smoke's cape was seen and looked lovely actually (better with the wedding dress than the dunelm would have been). Carrie was grace under pressure.

SequinsandStiIettos · 28/08/2023 16:03

The only part I don't understand (unless Big had less $$$ than I thought) was why she was insistent on selling her flat when she could have just rented it out to Jewellery Girl.
If she was buying the huge new flat for herself (but Aiden + kids visiting too) why wasn't he involved in choosing and putting in his own money? Would Aiden not have ended up being a Cocklodger supreme?

WhyDoesItAlways · 28/08/2023 17:02

Carrie dropped a 100k charity donation earlier in the series and wasn't bothered about the money when big left Natasha $1m in his will so I think she sold to move on rather than for the money.

She was wise to buy the new apartment herself though rather than link her finances with Aiden. He may not have the money anyway without selling the farm which he would be unlikely do with his kids living there.

Selling it was symbolic. Partly of committing to Aidan (boak) and also of moving on from Big and her fear of moving on.

AliciaLime · 28/08/2023 17:23

There were red flags left, right and centre with Aidan:

  • Wrong restaurant, she had to find him. He opens his arms for a hug and stands there, she goes to him.
  • He won’t go to her apartment because he didn’t get his way years before so they go to a hotel.
  • She finds Che’s flat for them to stay at but he screws that up so she buys the big flat.
  • He’s then suddenly able to go to her original flat to tell her there’s a random new rule - five year celibacy and does his patronising imaginary finger click. So she… has sex with him. Whatever..

And the Samatha cameo - she literally phoned it in and seemed more in character as Kim C than Samantha. Meh.
