Someone else will have to do the linky thing to the last thread 😁

The random friend-swapping was mentioned up-thread. Drove me mad as well. Nya / Lisa / Seema would turn up at any brunch / dinner & just slot into intimate conversations as if they were Carrie / Miranda / Charlotte/ (Samantha).

Felt the same way about Anthony & Stanford. Were they the only two gay guys in NYC? I think not. Their wedding was so silly!

And the fact that the Last Supper may as well have been in a restaurant, mentioned as well. Yup, the group restaurant scenes in them first movie were much better! When Miranda tells BIG not to get married. We need more drama, people!

Gowlett · 25/08/2023 23:38

AND, I thought the way they shoe-horned Samantha in, after just 2 minutes… Was a definite diss to Kim Cattrall.

SheilaFentiman · 26/08/2023 07:49

Hmmm… I think they didn’t want the whole
episode to be about will she/won’t she be at the dinner.

KC very much called the shots on that cameo - I’m sure the producers would have loved more than 90s of screen time

43ontherocksporfavor · 26/08/2023 10:42

I watched S1 ep1 yesterday and it wasn’t as cringeworthy this time as I guess now I know who the characters are and how it played out. The podcast but still was though.

SheilaFentiman · 26/08/2023 12:56

I did the same just now @43ontherocksporfavor - and it just gives such a lie to the “was big a mistake” line - they clearly were still super into each other after 15 years or whatever it was.

43ontherocksporfavor · 26/08/2023 13:34

I know. I cried …. again… even though I knew what was coming! 😂

I think the episode was very much set up as a last episode ever of the series . Which makes sense as there was no season 3 confirmed until just shortly before it aired .
It was artificial in that the 15 others weren't necessarily all close friends of Carrie's . In some ways it would make more sense to bring in some of the older SATC characters who had history with her old apartment / that stage of her life .

Although this episode did seem to be the tying up loose ends of those
main and some of the more minor characters from the two seasons .
Apart from Seema and Carrie they all seemed to have a relatively happy / or settled ending.

I didn't really enjoy the KC appearance that much . I was glad that they put it at the beginning so no waiting / guessing when it would appear .

Loved Carrie's dress ( minus the leggings ) and Miranda's .
Although I preferred Aidan to Big in SATC , agree that his character in this was beyond annoying .

The 5 year wait was ridiculous too . Would have made more sense for Aidan to say that he needs to prioritise his boys and that he wouldn't be able to come to NYC so much and for them to see how things go .

They were essentially breaking up with a clause inserted that they would re- visit in 5 years . But Carrie seemed to just accept it ...It was a bit too Victorian novel for me - surely they would have been able to keep in contact by phone , face time etc and even the odd visit .

Loved the Miranda and Steve scenes . Big fan of Dollie Wells so would be great to see more of her in s3 .
Love Seema , Lisa and her husband and Anthony .

Will definitely be watching series 3 . I do think they will leave Aidan out of the next series completely other than a brief mention . Unless they set the next series 5 years ahead when Carrie etc are proper OAPs and get their NYC equivalent of a free bus pass ! Perhaps there could be a reunion with Aidan then ...

I need to watch the last episode again, but my first impression was that I didn’t give a damn about half the people at the dinner.

Smoke’s boyfriend? I don’t even remember his name, I only remember hers because it was unusual.

I know people like Lisa and Herbert but they are boring. Lisa is beautiful, and I know people like her clothes, but I think her clothes wear her. Harry has been pretty boring this season and he is at his worst with Herbert.

Nya, I think I might like but she hasn’t been in it much this season. More of her and Gary Dourdan, please.

Lisette, what a non-entity!

As for Anthony’s expression during sex, next season if he doesn’t say to Romeo, “look, I tried it and no way am I doing it again”, I will be disappointed.

And then Aiden, I actually don’t care how they get rid of him, just do it. During season 1, there was a lot of talk online from fans wanting him back, but there are other men in the world.

Andylion · 26/08/2023 15:48

Oh God, I completely forgot to mention Che!
Well, that tells you what I think of Che!

vincettenoir · 26/08/2023 22:09

Really enjoyed the season. It got better as it went on and I’ll happily watch the next one.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/08/2023 22:17

Wonder if we will ever watch and rewatch and rewatch AJLT 20/25yrs later and coo over it the way we do SATC

I watched from the beginning so 1998 and was 25 and loved it. Now 50
And still love it

I have enjoyed both s1&2 tho many Havnt and R.E.M. on the first thread I did say why are so many watching it if don't like it 😂

Guess it has grown on people

I thought Smoke was an improbable name but then saw that the actress playing her is called Bethlehem so maybe not!

Ilovealido · 27/08/2023 00:00

Glad others agreed that the Guardian article was on the money.
Ive just been watching the SATC episode I ❤️ NY on the recommendation of the other thread & Steve mentions while they’re putting up Brady’s cot that his father & grandfather were both called Paul. Well remembered to whoever said that! And how weird that it wasn’t mentioned during the AJLT episode about Paul’s place on Coney Island. The writers really don’t seem to remember anything! Also Steve’s voice is nowhere near as weird as it is in AJLT.

I think what’s even more improbable is that she’s in a relationship with that guy Jackie who is all kinds of annoying 🤣

Wow, Bethlehem? Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the wee donkey that's a hell of a name!

I suppose Beth for short...

Charlotte’s new iPhone, using an iPad.

May be complicated by the fact she threw her old one into a pitcher of cocktails and so couldn’t do the “hold it near your other one” set up

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/08/2023 07:59

Tho you would just set it up via iCloud

Obv the option to hold by old phone is easier but I've set up phones via transfer via iCloud

And I'm very un techno !!!!

I pay the bare minimum iCloud so don’t have the storage to back up a phone.

But anyway, as plot holes go, this has nothing on “ why were storm and Jackie at the Last Supper?” 😀

Gowlett · 27/08/2023 09:29

I know, after Storm & the MET Ball dress…
And Carrie (and her vagina) shutting down the whole podcast production company… And her just swanning off.

Right?!

”you fucked up on a major assignment that I gave you as a favour because you are married to someone I work with… but hey, come to my exclusive party!”

I feel the same. There’s too many characters in AJLT and there’s not enough time in 11 episodes for us to get to ‘know’ them. I’ve broadly enjoyed the series, but I’ve no desire at all to rewatch any episodes of this season or the first, it’s all been pretty much forgettable.

PaperWalkAndTalk · 27/08/2023 09:54

So glad that there is somewhere to talk about this show. So many issues with it, I feel like this is the definition of hate-watching, it's just not got any of the spark of SATC.

Apple clearly have a product placement deal with the show, particularly with clunky lines like "here's your iPhone 14 Pro Max". It annoys me that all of these people heavily invested in fashion have the default wallpaper, no fashionable cover and not to mention that they all had the new iPhone before it was unveiled by Apple (as the series was filmed before the launch).

Perhaps they could replace Che with Siri?

Yes these side characters are interchangeable and I have no interest in knowing about their lives, they've been inserted into the show for a box ticking exercise, but at least Seema is the replacement for Samantha so she's got more character and is probably better than Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte.

It amazes me at just how unlikeable Che is, her attitude and behaviour is awful but everyone who meets her loves her! She really has no point of remaining in the show as she doesn't have much to do with Miranda now, but we must see her at the vets and her private life.

I care enough about the characters, but I don’t care about their relationships. We’re not seeing enough “bonding”.

Miranda’s relationship with Che didn’t have enough to it to destroy a twenty year marriage.

There were no really lovely scenes showing Carrie and Seema develop a friendship outside of real estate (there was one in a bar but it lacked chemistry).

We saw a bit more between Miranda and Nya but it still wasn’t that warming.

Anthony’s Italian wants to leave him because he’s got too many walls and won’t let him in, but we’ve not seen it.

And the biggie…. Carrie and Aidan. Zero scenes of them falling back in love. A quick chat over the initial dinner which mainly revolved around Big.

Plus… if you’d never watched SATC or not seen it in years, they don’t do that well portraying Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda as “soul mates”.

I think the reason we all love LTW and her husband is because we’re actually seeing a bit more about their relationship. We care about their relationship and not just as individual people.
