god - so glad I didn't see that.

My friend's boyfriend proposed to her in front of all their friends at her birthday party and she said yes, even though she didn't want to marry him at all - she told me that she couldn't turn him down in front of all those people

southeastastra · 29/02/2008 15:25

It's on YouTube under "GMTV proposal".

Oh dear.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 29/02/2008 18:28

ell I watched it and I think he was more in shock at a camera crew surprising him at work, rather than not wanting to get married!?

I got two minutes in and couldn't take any more.

I love 'He's been doing DIY project work' as a reason why he hasn't asked her before.

ruddynorah · 29/02/2008 20:08

eugh how awful. he really is just not that into her.

Beauregard · 29/02/2008 20:11

omg how cringey
That poor girl

ginnedup · 29/02/2008 20:25

Penny Smith and Andrew Castle were hilarious after weren't they. He said "he's obviously thrilled!" and she could hardly keep a straight face.
...and when they asked him when the wedding will be he said "I'm going to slow down on the kitchen now"
Absolutely priceless!

Was just telling dp about this poor girl he was obviously going to tell her 'no chance' when he got home !

madamez · 29/02/2008 21:20

Iremember one like this on The Word years ago - so screamingly obvious that the bloke didn't want to. I bet they broke up the minute the cameras stopped rolling.

Mind you, for cheesy heartwarming (barf) moments, there was another one where the bloke, who was a squaddie, proposed via video link and the girl said 'I'll give you an answer when I see you.' Huge tension for about a minute, then back go the screens and she was there in the studio to say Yes. Awww. I nearly shat.

madamez · 29/02/2008 21:23

Have just watched the clip. EEEEEW. Poor stupid cow. And poor trapped bemused dumbo bloke as well. Ugh.

Heated · 29/02/2008 21:52

Ouch!

monkeypie · 29/02/2008 23:32

Been off line all day but had to comment on this. I saw it this morning and have told people about it all day, i was watching through my fingers, was she really that dumb? Part of me thinks she did it on tv because she knew he would turn her down if she asked with no audience
I woud love to have been the driver in the car i bet he gave her a few choice words. If they get married i will finish the kitchen for them!

Alambil · 01/03/2008 23:48

The voilins are a bit mauldlin aren't they!! (just seeing it on youtube!)

MAMAZON · 01/03/2008 23:59

that really was awfull wasn't it.

well done to the guy for not looking too horrified huh lol

LyraSilvertongue · 02/03/2008 00:27

Cringe, cringe, cringe.

PurlyQueen · 02/03/2008 00:39

Just watched the clip on YouTube.
The way he looked like a cornered rat and responded with the only phrase that every woman wants to hear...

"Go on then"

RGPargy · 02/03/2008 00:46

OMG it was so funny wasn't it, but in a cringey sort of way. They are SO not going to get married!!

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 02/03/2008 00:54

aww i thought it was fine

i think they will marry!

Phatmouse · 02/03/2008 20:51

Those three little words 'go on then'

You would think after seven years she would know him well enough to know how he was going to take it and just not do it!

My fella asked me on christmas but if I had done that to him his reaction would have been similar as he hates the limelight, he would be just as mortified, but I would like to think he would at least try and kill me later.

I really hopes she takes back her proposal for her own dignity.
