Fed up with Friends: Recommend what's Your Go-To Guaranteed Easy Watching?

HarlequinsPants · 14/08/2023 18:08

If I've just sat down late and want a bit of easy watching that I know I will enjoy, I watch an episode of Friends. It's quicker & less painful than searching for something new and trying to work out if I'd like it and they are fairly short. I've seen them all so often, it's like checking in with an old friend.

Anyway I'm getting a bit bored with them now. Has anyone got any other suggestions for a bit of light relief/easy watching to unwind before bed?

What are your go to choices? I'm relaxed about subjects- doesn't have to be comedy but obviously nothing horror/terror etc. Just cosy easy relaxed and good.

Parks and Recreation. Just brilliant.

Schitts creek is a very easy watch.

Or I put La La Land on for the gazillionth time.

New Girl is 10x better than Friends. Also Brooklyn 99 and Parks and Recs.

CoolShoeshine · 14/08/2023 18:13

Modern Family - lighthearted watch with short episodes and a likeable cast like Friends

Came on to say this - the early series are the best though

Park & Rec
W1A
Detectorists

BusySittingDown · 14/08/2023 18:18

The Big Bang Theory or Young Sheldon (well both).

I never fancied The Big Bang Theory - I think I watched an episode and didn't really click. My DDs wanted to watch Young Sheldon a few months ago so we watched it all without having watched TBBT. It's so lovely! Love all of the characters, they're just gorgeous!
Decided to give TBBT another go (we're only up to season 3) but OMG we're obsessed with Sheldon Cooper. He's just brilliant! 😁

I've never heard of Modern Family but it's got so many recommendations here,
Thanks for the ideas.

Brooklyn 99 is okay, and the American Office is brilliant, in addition to Parks and Recs and Modern Family.

Life in Pieces doesn't appear to be free anymore sadly. I happened to look for it last weekend as easy watching when ironing. It's a really good show!

Community. Be careful though as it is a bit of a cult thing most people haven't seen it I find. A media studies teacher told me about it otherwise I'd never have given it a go.
Set in an American adult education college. There are some terrific actors in it. You do have to watch a few episodes to get into it. I know I haven't made it sound great but it is so funny and human.

Datafan55 · 15/08/2023 19:19

I have fallen asleep many times to Parks and Rec, Taskmaster, Superstore, or a fab short series on ITV player called Zomboat. Or Elementary if you have prime.

Life in Pieces is good if you find it - some great characters.

Modern Family annoyed me intensely as it has blended families and same-sex families but the women are homemakers (for the first few series anyway).

Ridingthegravytrain · 15/08/2023 19:23

New Girl
Schitts Creek
How I Met your Mother
The Middle
Freah off the Boat

DCINightingale · 15/08/2023 19:25

Another recommendation for Community. Absolutely hilarious

Justleaveitblankthen · 15/08/2023 19:38

I know what you mean about getting fed up with Friends. I wait for it to get round to episode one again as the first couple of seasons were the best. 😁

I would agree with Frazier.
I tried an episode of Beck but it may have been a dud one. Will try again soon.

My other Go tos' are Royal family (showing from the start BBC2 from last night) Blackadder and Fawlty towers.

I didn't really like The Big Bang Theory, so have avoided Young Sheldon so far 🤔

Floralnomad · 15/08/2023 19:42

Frasier , Father Ted , It Crowd , Miranda
I really enjoyed the early part of Modern Family but the children grew into such unlikeable characters that I can’t watch it at all now .

TheIsaacs · 15/08/2023 21:30

Brooklyn 99
The Big Bang Theory
New Girl
Community
Schitt’s Creek
The Good Place
The Office (UK or US)
The Vicar of Dibley
Dinnerladies
Father Ted

TheIsaacs · 15/08/2023 21:31

Oh yes and Modern Family

HelloSquire · 16/08/2023 11:14

Motherland

Objectionhearsayspeculation · 16/08/2023 11:16

Chesapeake Shores. It's easy going and relaxing

MillWood85 · 16/08/2023 11:24

Virgin River - Netflix. Simple, uncomplicated, not too sugary.

Sweet Magnolias - also Netflix. May give you a cavity from the sugar but it's an easy watch too.

Fourlegsandatail · 16/08/2023 11:26

We found Arrested Development recently, it’s from the early noughties I think and I totally missed it first time round. I loved it!
