Fed up with Friends: Recommend what's Your Go-To Guaranteed Easy Watching?

If I've just sat down late and want a bit of easy watching that I know I will enjoy, I watch an episode of Friends. It's quicker & less painful than searching for something new and trying to work out if I'd like it and they are fairly short. I've seen them all so often, it's like checking in with an old friend.

Anyway I'm getting a bit bored with them now. Has anyone got any other suggestions for a bit of light relief/easy watching to unwind before bed?

What are your go to choices? I'm relaxed about subjects- doesn't have to be comedy but obviously nothing horror/terror etc. Just cosy easy relaxed and good.

Loved the first 2 or 3 seasons of Community then it went off the boil for me, but I'll happily rewatch the early ones over and over.

Death in Paradise. Light-hearted detective series set in the Caribbean. Glorious locations, formulaic plots, undemanding but amusing.

JustPickleRick · 18/08/2023 22:52

Motherland on Netflix
Gavin and Stacey on BBC3
Ghosts on BBC3

MaCrepeSuzette · 18/08/2023 23:04

Derry Girls

Seinfeld is my favourite, but it's 100x more cynical than Friends

Grace and Frankie is a good shout.

CanadianReader · 19/08/2023 00:06

Hot in Cleveland
Younger
The Nanny (can't get enough of this one)

If you don't mind episodes that are 44 minutes long than look at Jane the Virgin

Cotswoldbee · 19/08/2023 00:11

Midsomer Murders.
So many violent deaths but it is so light hearted and almost a comedy at times.
Have watched them all multiple times and have them on DVD.
Doing it slightly different this time around, started at the latest episode and working my way back to the beginning, watched Ep47 tonight. 🙂

Lightningrain · 19/08/2023 10:55

Schitts Creek or Big Bang Theory for short episodes. I found I had to watch a few episodes to properly get into the characters but loved them after that. I’d dipped into BBT in the past when others were watching and didn’t get it because I hadn’t watched from the start but I loved it.

Other easy watches are Gilmore Girls and Virgin River.

"Taskmaster" makes me consistently laugh aloud more than anything else I've ever seen.

Community. Be careful though as it is a bit of a cult thing most people haven't seen it I find. A media studies teacher told me about it otherwise I'd never have given it a go.
Set in an American adult education college. There are some terrific actors in it. You do have to watch a few episodes to get into it. I know I haven't made it sound great but it is so funny and human.

Community is criminally underrated. I've probably rewatched it all about 50 times.
