He’s back! 👏🏼

It's crap. I liked the first series, didn't mind the second series. This one... I have not the faintest little clue wtf is going on.

Not a scooby.

And what's more - I find I don't care. Shame, I think it could have been so much better.

APurpleSquirrel · 11/07/2023 19:15

I've read most of the books & I'm confused! I sort of know what 'should' be coming up/happening but the timelines are all over the place, massive gaps in the plots, some plots have just not been included etc.
Definitely finding this series much harder going, not as enjoyable which is a shame. Last time we binge watched, now we've watched about half the released episodes & still got several more to go, but aren't as keen.
I feel so sorry for the cast & fans - it's been totally ruined by the show runner - no wonder HC wanted out!

KittyWithStripes · 11/07/2023 22:44

Agree it’s been totally ruined!! Just caught up on the latest couple of episodes. FINALLY got some Geralt shagging scenes, which personally I’d been gagging for… but they weren’t a patch on the deliciousness of S1. Just endless exposition and plotting and who gives AF.

I want monsters being slain, Jaskier being saucy, and Geralt being seduced!! Not this tosh.

youngestisapsycho · 12/07/2023 11:29

I went into episode 5 very excited about the shagging scene.... there wasn't one! shame on you @KittyWithStripes giving me false hope 😆😂

I'm not that interested this season either. Have watched 2 episodes but not that eager to go back for more. Lost its way

thecatsthecats · 14/07/2023 15:51

IMO big fantasy series like this fail because they leave the basics behind far too easily.

Look at Buffy and Doctor Who - plenty of monster of the week fun and build up towards the series arc throughout. The Witcher only has a handful of episodes where Geralt and/or Yen turn up, shiv something with 18 legs and find out who the real villain was all along, along with a smattering of the big plot to help you work it out as you go along.

Well there was shagging of sorts, lots of Geralt and Yen rolling about artfully on white sheets with lots of candles (yawn). Still not a patch on the S1 shagging.

I’ve read gossip stories that it was HC who put a stop to Gerald’s shagging scenes. If this is true I am most displeased with him.

I’m glad others are saying they don’t really know what’s going on because neither did I and I really loved the first couple of seasons!

It feels quite jumbled. One minute Ciri is with Yennifer and then runs away, she's all of a sudden being chase by the shadow riders (can't remember what they are called) and then Geralts there...then 2mins later they are back with Yennifer who doesn't seem, bothered/relieved/angry or even mention Ciri ran off on her own. I wasn't sure she had even noticed.

Plus, Jaskier is obviously under surveillance and in communication with the King's brother...but multiple times he visits and is visited by Geralt who the Palace are desperate to find. It just didn't make sense that Geralt would take such risks, as he seemed to know Jaskier was speaking with them.

I felt there was good chemistry between Geralt and Yennifer in season 1 but not seen any at all for the past two seasons.

escapingthecity · 29/07/2023 17:06

Started on the new episodes. Finding it hard to take Ciri as the potential saviour of the continent in her River Island fake fur gilet

PhotoDad · 29/07/2023 17:11

Since the last series I've played The Witcher 3 computer game and it helped me make a lot more sense of the setting!

monicagellerbing · 29/07/2023 19:22

Another one here who hasn't a clue what's going on. I've watched season 3 part 1 but I'm not bothering with the rest. It's all over the place and I don't care about the characters anymore. Shame as seasons 1&2 were brilliant

musicinspring1 · 29/07/2023 20:34

Anyone seen the last 3 episodes? Thoughts ? I found myself skipping through the desert episode - didn't keep my attention at all. And not enough Cavill....

PhotoDad · 29/07/2023 20:39

I do genuinely have a much better idea now I've played the game. I'm not reading the books because they cover much the same plot as the TV show! But I thought that the desert scenes could easily have been cut to half their length.

ImSidneyFuckingPrescott · 29/07/2023 20:58

I've just watched the 1st episode of part 3 with DH who has just announced he won't be watching the last two episodes. Can't blame him, it's just really poor.

I wish they would have had a couple of seasons where it was more 'monster of the week' episodes like the strigoi (not sure if I've spelled that correctly). Also just needs more HC generally.

APurpleSquirrel · 29/07/2023 23:34

We've just watched the first 2 episodes of the second part of season 3 & yeah...
I've read the books past where we're going & it's a mess. A lot of what is being shown is in the books, but is much more spaced out & there are bits they've changed which would affect the plot going forward (no battle between Cahir & Geralt).
The desert episode, god it was as boring on screen as in the book - no idea why they've kept it in that long when there is only one episode left!
We haven't even started on the band of brothers bit where Cahir redeems himself, they meet Regis etc etc
So unless the next season (without HC) picks up directly after this one finishes, I've no idea how they will resolve the storyline as it's not resolved in the books for another 3-4 books!
We'll watch the final episode tomorrow & see what happens, but you can feel HC's heart isn't in this series at all, such a shame.
The showrunners have fucked up by messing with the story & getting rid of HC.

😂😂😂😂. This made me chuckle. I have been thinking the same thing!

TossacointoHenryCavill · 29/07/2023 23:49

To be fair the books also get jumbled and worse as they go along. It’s the pace changing. The author started out writing a series of short stories about the Witcher and then book 2 kind of runs away with the Cirri child surprise short story and then the later books he turns the whole thing into this mega fantasy epic with Cirri as the central figure. So the first book makes a fantastic tv series with each short story being a wonderful self contained episode, but then it kind of goes to pieces when we get to the big fantasy epic phase where no one knows what’s going on because they’re looking for 30page mini stories in a 300page story which just aren’t there.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 30/07/2023 01:14

Just finished it. Don't really know what's going on. Kind of struggling to care.

Owl lady and creepy dude have killed the poncy twat king. Seems good, if nothing else he was very annoying. Little bro has been shoved into place, assuming that'll turn out well for Geralt et al later as he's being portrayed as gay and Netflix tend not to have gay guys as baddies. So assuming there will be a reunion with Jaskier and little bro king can pull of a big save the day move. Don't know how owl lady and creepy dude will fit into that.

What's the deal with fake Ciri? Does dad-king white flame man know she's a fake or is magic man pulling the wool over his eyes?

When real Ciri said she renounced her powers in the shit CGI flames, is that for real? Is it permanent? She's not going to be much of a continent saver if she's just a bit handy with a sword.

Also, non plot related, but how old is Ciri meant to be? I feel like she is meant to be a child/teen but the actress is obviously an adult and I can't quite work out what age we are meant to see her as.

I couldn't get into the tv series but the Witcher 3 video game is epic! One of my favourite games. Just replaying with the ps5 upgrade (been years since I played it first) suuuch a good game.

The pace of the storytelling is much better than the TV show too, with a main plot that very slowly ramps up, and sidequests that flesh things out. It's an amazing experience.

I have no idea how they're going to deal with Henry C leaving the show. I suspect that it will go (even more) downhill very fast, but I'll still probably watch it.

musicinspring1 · 30/07/2023 08:45

I have the same questions as you @SirSamVimesCityWatch but having just read that filming the next series is delayed due to writers strikes there is talk that the negative feedback on this series may delay it even further.....
The whole thing just felt flat to me and dis-satisfying.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 30/07/2023 11:12

The whole thing just felt flat to me and dis-satisfying.

Yes, definitely. I stuck with it to get some answers but it's just all a bit meh. I'm not really that interested now in seeing what happens and I don't think I'll bother with the new seasons without Henry Cavill.

I might rewatch season 1 at some point instead.

thecatsthecats · 31/07/2023 22:11

Most of episode 7 was literally Ciri doing audio narration of the desert.

Plus the bit with Tisseia just came out of nowhere - does that happen in the books?

The best surprise moment of the series was Stregobor deciding to wreak fire magic on the elves to buy them time after he'd been falsely set up by Vilgefortz. It's really bad when the sociopathic racist is the one that provides you the only moment you can root for.

And I don't know what happened to the cat that Fire Fucker stole. Unforgivable narrative oversight.

camperjam · 31/07/2023 22:20

I'm glad I'm not the only one who had no idea what was going on!
