In season one of Before We Die, Detective Inspector Hannah Laing (Lesley Sharp) was working with Billy Murdoch (Vincent Regan), a specialist in Eastern European drug gangs from the National Crime Agency, to infiltrate the Mimica crime family, led by the ruthless Davor (Toni Gojanović) and overseen by matriarch Dubravka (Kazia Pelka). However, Hannah was in for a shock when she learned that her informant within the Mimicas was none other than her estranged son, Christian Radic (Patrick Gibson).

As Hannah, Billy and Christian got increasingly involved with the Mimicas in their bid to find out what the mysterious Operation Krajina involved, with Christian also becoming romantically entangled with Davor's sister Bianca (Issy Knopfler), the two sides were ultimately pulled together into a dramatic confrontation that saw Hannah shoot and kill Davor to save Christian, with Christian being forced to go on the run for his own protection.

I've just finished series one right now 😀I don't think I really got into it until the final episode. It's tried my patience to be honest, but I'm going to give series two a go and see how we get on.

I watched but found it a bit slow until the end. Also although I read the recap I had forgotten who some of the characters were and how it all fitted together

Who is the Nicky character? The one who was in Steeltown murders. Was she in the first series?

Is she the police head honcho investigating the explosion that ended Season 1 and is in league with the Mimicas I think- doubting myself now -was she the woman who met with Dubravka ? and therefore also in collusion with the mole in the police force.
What was the name of the detective who threw his phone in the bin, who Billy caught contacting Dubravka ?

I watched Van Der Valk. This is tonight's viewing!

Totally confused me. The first time I saw her she was meeting with Dubravka and then she was in the police station being greeted by the bloke in charge. So both her and the one who had the burner phone are in cahoots with the Mimicas

I did actually feel sorry for Dubravka when she identified the body. Just goes to show that all the money and posh house and power - not worth it. Everyone still loves and loses the same.

Isn't Hannah worried that Dubravka may have planted a listening device in her home ?
Very lax security in her own home considering she has upset the matriarch of a crime syndicate.
Not even a Ring doorbell ?
How can she come and go to the fabulous safe house at will ?
Why is nobody following Billy and Hannah on behalf of the corrupt officers as they go about their business to see what they're are up to ?

I actually wondered for a minute if Billy was legit. Dubrovka was in her house after he'd been around using her keys...

Last night's episode ending

I'm glad this is on every night. I don't think I'd have stayed with it had it been drawn out in weekly episodes. On the one hand it's too ridiculous, the massive houses, the wooden acting, stilted dialogue and so much dramatic license that tries my patience. Christian seems to go from a low level James Bond to being rather dim and I still don't know how come he was even allowed to get involved in the first place. Same goes for a lot of the main players on the right side of the law. Agree with @daffodilandtulip if you were fairly competent and working in these kind of situations, you certainly wouldn't linger around chatting in the open. On the other hand, pure and simple, I want to know how it ends.

I remember Kazia Pelka from Brookside. It was a very long time ago, but in my mind she spoke with a natural accent. Here it seems very forced at times.

If I was writing it I think I'd have Hannah as the arch villain, double crossing everyone and operating an even bigger crime ring masterminded by her ex husband. I don't recall anyone saying what he does for a living? but they're obviously still in touch and he has enough disposable cash to dig his son out of a hole. It'd make quite a twist.

Confession. I've been watching via the Ch4 app and saw tonight's, so I'll shut up now. I'll watch Sewing Bee instead and then see the final episode of this with everyone else tomorrow.

I think Kazia is great. I think it's how a lot of Eastern Europeans sound when English isn't natural to them.

Agree it would be great if there was a big plot twist. Feels like it's just going to end with everyone being dead and Dubrovka wandering off into the sunset.
