One of my trench coats is unlined and I love it - its summer weight.

Plain? Patterned? Colour? Sounds nice.

CaptainMyCaptain · 21/07/2023 16:08

A few pp have said they think everyone should have the same sized model but this was on Vicki's Instagram today.

I am delighted for Tony the Post. I don’t know why but I’ve just properly warmed to him.

I’m sorry to see Vicki go though. I love that message she posted. Gaun yersel hen.

I think it is probably Asmaa’s competition to lose but I’d be delighted for TonyT’post if he sneaked by her.

I had a wonky pile of cells removed from my face quite a few moons ago. Another trainee. I have to really search for the scar even though it should be easy to see. (Quite a clump removed). Asmaa level sewing for sure. 😊

Halsall · 21/07/2023 17:46

Just jumping back on to say I think it was Vicki’s time to go, but she should feel proud of herself. Also, trench coats in 5 hours?! Blimey. I draw a veil over the terrible transformation challenge.

re surgeons doing well on the show - I remember an article a few years ago about trainee surgeons and their mentors/senior trainers saying the people who excelled were the ones who’d had hobbies like sewing, knitting and woodwork - and computer games, now so much surgery is done on a micro scale with robot arms. These young people had the essential fine motor skills already well-developed.

Conversely, being a surgeon is surely another reason why Asmaa excels particularly at bra-making, which iirc is a pretty fiddly skill in dressmaking terms.

Binglebong · 21/07/2023 17:54

That one is a standard beige - it came from lidl! I also have am emerald green one with a very light lining, again it is summer weight.

Maireas · 22/07/2023 08:03

I loved Asmaa's jumpsuit. I think black should only be worn to funerals, but it was a fantastic design and had a gorgeous shimmer. The last three are the right three, imo.

i loved it too. but black only for funerals? 95% of my clothes are black. Those that aren't are worn with something black.

Maireas · 22/07/2023 09:41

Personal taste, @Brefugee .
I like colour. We're all different.

Brefugee · 25/07/2023 08:03

fair enough 😊

MouseMinge · 25/07/2023 12:29

Despite some* dodgy repurposing challenges this year, I'm quite excited about tomorrow's final.

*A lot of.🙂

Sorry posted on wrong thread!! Ignore ignore 😆

Brefugee · 25/07/2023 15:42

so - do any of you think you would go for it and be on the Bee next year?

Is there any way of getting more details about what it involves (as in: how much info do you get in advance, do you have to have all your own machines - they all seem to use overlockers, I've been sewing since the 70s but i got my first overlocker last year, etc etc)

Binglebong · 25/07/2023 15:44

Not a chance for me! The pressure would pay me off sewing forever and show up my lack of skill.

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/07/2023 17:34

Not a chance. I make what I like, in my own time, for me.

MouseMinge · 26/07/2023 00:03

I'm still too much of a beginner to consider it but maybe 2025 if I get good enough. I mean I'd crash and burn in the first episode but I'm sure it'd be a blast!

onlynotafan · 26/07/2023 00:14

I'm crap under pressure so no. I love sewing in my own spare time tho

MurielThrockmorton · 26/07/2023 07:04

I liked Vicki though thought it was right that she went, she was very gracious in her leaving too, which impressed me.

A work colleague of a friend is on Sewing Bee this year, I'm not quite sure whether they've started, but my friend works in fashion so is giving the contestant some tips.

I was thinking though that if you have to buy all your own material, which definitely isn't cheap, and take significant time out of your life to participate, it can't be easy to organise.

MouseMinge · 26/07/2023 13:04

I'd really hope that they're given a budget for materials and any accessories they use. It would be a real handicap for those with less funds if they have to pay for their own supplies.

Tallisker · 26/07/2023 16:07

I think you should go for it Brefugee. Just imagine us all here willing you on, you'd smash it 😊

Binglebong · 26/07/2023 16:56

Definitely! We will all be cheering you on.

Unfortunately I'm ineligible as I'm not a UK resident. Otherwise I might actually consider it

Tallisker · 26/07/2023 18:55

@Brefugee perhaps some kind soul could lend you an address 🤣

Brefugee · 26/07/2023 19:04

tempting...
