I think, though I'm far from sure, that Brian started doing family history research and found Isabella and was thrilled he had Italian relatives? Although it seems that at some point the veneer may have to drop, and she turns out to be a scammer from Mexborough who says 'ee ecky thump' when she thinks no-one's listening.

I thought from the start that Isabella was a fake and trying some kind of scam. But she’s hung around so long now she must realise Brian doesn’t have anything worse scamming. At this stage she deserves a medal for being around him for so long.

Ooh that was something I meant to ask about. I hate when they show letters or text messages - they don't give you time to read them. I think I saw Steven get a letter out of the red box which said 'Dear Tim, I'm glad we are back in touch...' or something like that, and then it went off screen, she came in and he stuffed it in his briefcase.

I meant to add - yes, it can't be a coincidence that several cast and a lucky crew are having a jolly in the Peaks at the same time. I hope that isn't the denoument for Steven though. I wanted something to emerge about Lee and Arcraigy [brilliant!] to solve the case and get promoted until he's like John Stalker and gets to advertise remote opening garage doors with his dog Drummer

It will be a lousy ending to the Stephen storyline if he makes his exit over a cliff without being found out. I hope the writers don’t do that to us after dragging it out for months .

Oh yes there's life after the force. Arcraigy has a way to go yet though. I don't recall him being seen running yet, let alone driving at top speed through a pile of cardboard boxes 😀
He was last seen with his hand on the shoulder of that woman who just shot Spider. She needed a helping hand into the cop van and Arcraigy deserves a commendation for that. One brave cop there!!

I can see a future for Arcraigy P.I.

Then Spider could be his private detective partner and 'carry on making a difference' fighting the baddies and still get to marry Toyah because 'strictly speaking, Toyah, I'm not in the police any more.'

Or a fruit stall at the market or into Preston petals

Spider seems to have joined the police some time in his 40s and managed to have been fast tracked into one of their top undercover guys

I don’t get why Spider was so surprised Toyah thought he was thinking of leaving the police. In the hospital he said as much. Obviously it’s not great asking someone to choose between you and their career but considering his career led to her being kidnapped, held hostage and having to watch as he was shot, I think her ultimatum was fair enough to be honest.
