Place your bets for how many years out of date the storylines in the title will be by the end of the thread… 😁

I've just done a bit of a marathon and caught up on Classic Corrie. Did Todd even apply to or have an offer from Oxford? In Corrie-land they just seem to assume that anyone who gets straight As will automatically get in and there are no other suitable universities Confused

I thought it was implied he had a conditional offer depending on exam results? which ofc he didn't take (totally plausible...).

ThePearTree · 30/08/2023 06:54

@BeggyMitchell Yes of course it would be completely plausible for him to have a conditional offer. I wasn't trying to imply otherwise in any way. I just don't remember anything about him actually applying or having an interview etc, it just seemed that it looked like he was going to get As so everyone assumed he would go to Oxford, that's all.

BeggyMitchell · 30/08/2023 08:46

Ah sorry no - ThePearTree Grin, my fault for being too sarcastic in text 🙏🏻 I meant plausible sarcastically- as in not likely you'd decide at the last minute to swerve your exams & all those fantastic opportunities to chase Sarah Platt & the minimum wage !

Sorry @BeggyMitchell, what you meant seems very clear on a reread! Blush

I think I vaguely remember Todd going to Oxford for an interview? But I could be conflating it with the everlasting storyline about Summer going to Oxford in current Corrie whenever that was

Skinnermarink · 30/08/2023 12:05

oh and also Daniel was going to go to Oxford wasn’t he? He had an interview. In Coronation street land, Oxford is clearly the only uni that exists if you’re really clever 😆

He was going however ducked out of his A levels as he was soooooo in lurrrvvvvee with Sarah. Dropped out of school and worked in Martin’s (Gail’s ex) hospital. Living in Peter Barlow’s flat.

Just been in Classic Corrie on ITV 3…. I love Classic Corrie 🥳🥳🥳

eggandonion · 30/08/2023 12:31

Nobody goes to Cambridge or a good Russell group university...or an ex poly...

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 30/08/2023 13:10

I’m confused about Peter Barlow’s flat. If Todd is living in his flat (above the bookies??) where is peter and Shelley’s old flat (that Ciaran is now living in?)?

Just realised this is the Classic Corrie thread… sorry ignore me 🤪

That's the builders yard flat.

It's a 1 bed in classic Corrie. In modern Corrie it's a 3 bed

rinseandrepeat1 · 31/08/2023 14:32

@DelilahJane who lives in it in modern Corrie do you know?

Daniel and Daisy have just moved in.

Daniel told Ryan it'll be nice for Bertie to have his own room then hopefully turn the other into a nursery.

thenightsky · 31/08/2023 18:52

Blimey, that Lucy was seriously overacting her labour today.

Iwantacampervan · 04/09/2023 15:11

Is that Sean talking to Martin?

Iwantacampervan · 04/09/2023 15:15

I'm going to answer my own question, it was (seen the credits & it was as Sean not Antony Cotton playing someone else). Great, does that mean he becomes a character from now on.

rinseandrepeat1 · 04/09/2023 15:34

Oh I will look out for this @Iwantacampervan I'm a few behind still.
Just watched the hen night one and thoroughly loved the drama and fake punches.

Iwantacampervan · 04/09/2023 16:14

@rinseandrepeat1 He's talking to Martin in the gloom of the disco, I didn't hear whether they knew each other at the hospital or why he was there.

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 04/09/2023 21:22

Martin is so gross and creepy

OnTheBoardwalk · 04/09/2023 23:08

I wasn’t watching at this time but always thought Martin was the good guy even after his affair with Rebecca. He’s just as said by @CorporaINobbyNobbs gross and creepy

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 04/09/2023 23:33

Completely agree that Martin is gross and creepy. He's got to be 40 and Katie is what? 16??? I mean, what can they possibly have in common? Men over 30 made me nauseous when I was 16! It really is grim. I don't think this storyline would be done these days. It really is foul. What 16 year old would fancy a man probably older than her dad? She's a CHILD FGS!

TennisWithDeborah · 04/09/2023 23:39

It’s uncomfortable to watch and my understanding is that Sean Wilson wasn’t pleased with the storyline.

I know that Lucy-Jo was 20 not 16, but the character was 16 and that was the problem. It’s gross. There’s no way of making it sympathetic.

DelilahJane · 05/09/2023 08:24

I'm a few episodes behind - I'm finding Emma unbearable. She's so unlikeable.

Emma? Fionas daughter?

HurdyGurdy19 · 05/09/2023 09:52

I think I read that Sean Wilson was so unhappy with the Katie/Martin storyline that he left.

I have really revised my opinions on several of the characters since rewatching CC episodes. Betty - what a sharp tongued, acidic woman she was. Nothing she wouldn't moan about!

And Saint Emily. Another one for moaning, and the nasty, sarcastic way she spoke to both Percy and Norris. They were both very protective of her, and she didn't appreciate it one little bit.
