Not paying attention again Tennis

I see Kato won her mixed match against her also disqualified women's doubles partner.

Marie Bouzkova and Sara Sorribes Tormo got a lot of abuse for their part in getting the other pair disqualified and Vasek Pospisil said Kato's loss of prize money and points was theft!

Have I stumbled into a parallel universe Confused

JaneJeffer · 18/06/2023 02:04

It's the wonderful world of Bublik kazza Grin

Fizzywinegum · 18/06/2023 09:28

Ha ha I’ve got no idea what’s going on either kazza Grin

I’ve just started reading the Sue Barker autobiography - it’s quite entertaining in a jolly hockey sticks sort of way

Apparently Tim calls her Aunty Sue and Henman Hill was a car park before it became Henman Hill - no wonder Tim is so keen to build that underground car park - it’s like the circle of life!

Raahh · 18/06/2023 09:32

circle of life

Now I have visions of Tim being held aloft on Henman Hill with Elton warbling in the background (and if that doesn't happen I will be very sad Grin).

Fizzywinegum · 18/06/2023 09:43

Grin yes I’d quite like to see that Raahh

I wonder what’s happening with the underground car park? Hope we get an update soon

At least Tim won’t be constantly interrogated by Mac about Russian players being banned this year

Raahh · 18/06/2023 09:51

Poor TimGrin.
I remember poor Sue being in the middle of a heated debate between AC and Peter Fleming on the subject at Queen's. I'm sure the topic will come up somewhere.

I'm going to miss Sue.

Fizzywinegum · 18/06/2023 10:13

I remember that Raahh - it did get very heated - I hope they’ve pensioned Peter Fleming off this year - he’s useless!

It’s Martina on the Tennis Gods programme tonight and the second instalment of the Netflix tennis programme is on from Wednesday

Still haven’t seen any of the Nottingham tournament - DH is making us go on a walk later (as it’s Fathers Day) so not sure if I’ll get to see any. The last time he tried to make us climb a big hill we all rebelled and refused to go up it!

Fizzywinegum · 18/06/2023 11:40

Murray’s match is on already - I wasn’t expecting it to be on so early

Fizzywinegum · 18/06/2023 11:54

Ivan Lendl is watching Andy - now I definitely wish that I’d gone to Nottingham!

ChessieFL · 18/06/2023 12:04

Thanks Fizzy, I hadn’t realised it had already started today!

Fizzywinegum · 18/06/2023 13:00

Murray about to serve for the match - Ivan looking as happy as ever Grin

Fizzywinegum · 18/06/2023 13:03

Well done Andy!

Fizzywinegum · 18/06/2023 13:13

Aww Kim with her swishy hair and the kids have turned up to surprise him - that’s sweet - he didn’t know they were there!

JaneJeffer · 18/06/2023 13:17

Congrats Andy.

Big Foe and Struff are in the Stuttgart final, would be good to be able to watch it!

Raahh · 18/06/2023 13:39

Jane I'm very sad not to be able to see Marvin Struff and Big Foe. I also feel sorry for Matteo , that he lost so early this week- I hope he has a better week at Queen's but having seen the draw (he's not seeded) I'm not too hopeful. He faces Ruusuvuori tomorrow.

Grigor, bizarrely, is having to go through qualifying for Queen's despite having a higher ranking than other players who didn't need to. Not sure why maybe he missed a deadline to enter.
The same applied to Tommy Paul apparently (who is ranked 15 in the world- so would definitely get automatic entry).

I would have thought (as a former champion) Grigor might get a wildcard.

JaneJeffer · 18/06/2023 13:56

That's very strange Raahh and surely Grigor would be a big draw too.

OP posts:
Raahh · 18/06/2023 14:54

Jane he's always been very popular at Queen's (same as Marin, who isn't there this year )- and it's not as though he's really low ranked- he's in the top 30, so it's an odd situation. He's also one of the few players around who we know can actually play on grass. So many of the 'newer' players have little experience- especially after the last couple of years - what with covid and Russian bans.

ChessieFL · 18/06/2023 14:56

That all sounds very odd!

Katie has beaten Jodie in the women’s final. That means Brits have won both the singles events and the men’s doubles. It’s a shame Heather and Harriet couldn’t make it a clean sweep in the women’s doubles.

JaneJeffer · 18/06/2023 15:32

Well done Katie. She's one of my favourite women to watch play. Hope she does well at Wimbledon.

Pierre HH posted that's it's been a year today since his injury at Ilkley and that his recovery is coming along nicely now but it sounded awful Sad

OP posts:
Raahh · 18/06/2023 15:46

Poor PHH. So many players sidelined by injury. Milos didn't get as far this week as I hoped he would- but I think he will be at Queen's. (He has a protected ranking).

Struff serving to level the second set at 5-5 (or Tiafoe will take it to a 3rd).

JaneJeffer · 18/06/2023 16:38

Ooh another tie break

OP posts:
Raahh · 18/06/2023 16:43

Struff seems to be doing better in this tie break.

Raahh · 18/06/2023 16:50

Well done Big Foe, but really good week for Struff. He's been having a pretty good few months.

I think Tiafoe is playing at Queen's next, but Struff will be in Halle.
