Not paying attention again Tennis

I see Kato won her mixed match against her also disqualified women's doubles partner.

Marie Bouzkova and Sara Sorribes Tormo got a lot of abuse for their part in getting the other pair disqualified and Vasek Pospisil said Kato's loss of prize money and points was theft!

Yes I saw Daddy Carlos in Monte Carlo telling him you can't do that here but Sascha was having none of it and told him it's discrimination and that it's much better to do it openly.

JaneJeffer · 07/06/2023 17:08

I think he may have been penalised for it but I'm not sure. Ridiculous. People were commenting how important it is for children with diabetes to see they can do well in sport.

It makes no sense not to let him do it on court, Jane- presumably , it's an insulin pen, and they must have people who can check they are actually insulin before he goes on court. 5 set matches can go on for ages.
It is discrimination- he has to use up a bathroom break for something that takes literally seconds on court- and find a medic to do it.

Maybe they should be checking the contents of Djok's dodgy water bottles instead.Hmm.

JaneJeffer · 07/06/2023 17:09

I think he was just checking his levels as well not even using insulin.

Well exactly. Seems he can do what he likes for some reason.

I agree- there is a whole load of talk about 'representation' - it seems it all depends on whether it's the kind that makes them look good.

Fizzywinegum · 07/06/2023 17:12

Thanks for the new thread Jane - I thought it had gone a bit quiet Grin Tennis

I thought I heard Sascha saying something about his insulin a few matches ago - it does seem strange that he can’t do it himself Hmm

kazza I just logged onto the Discovery + app on our tv (with a little help) but if your young person is saying it’s not possible I don’t really know what to suggest - you need a degree and about 10 remote controls to watch telly these days!

Raahh · 07/06/2023 17:13

I did like his answer the other day to the fact he hasn't actually forgotten how to play- he was was away from the sport injured - not in a comaGrin

I just remembered I had to get a code from the telly (with help from DS1) and put it on the website before I could watch it on tv. This was after I already scanned the QR code. It's a long way from bashing the side of the telly Grin

Tomas Martin went off for a sit down!

It really is far too complicated now, Jane.

I miss RG being on ITV . Even with John Inverdale. I didn't actually mind John Inverdale.

ChessieFL · 07/06/2023 17:51

We had to get our teen DD to explain to us how to connect and disconnect different phones etc from the Bluetooth in our new car.

Fizzywinegum · 07/06/2023 17:52

I can’t say that I’m missing Inverdale - although I am a bit worried that Jim Courier is locked in a room somewhere rambling on and on about something/anything (and Fabrice has probably got the key Grin)

Raahh · 07/06/2023 17:55

They seem to let Jim out ot inflict him on the Aussies, Fizzy.

He might be in a cupboard somewhere with AC.

Fizzywinegum · 07/06/2023 17:59

I’ve got to go out in a bit - I’ve not planned this week very well Hmm - I’ve not really seen enough to see who might win although I guess Zverev has already won 2 sets

I’m also out on Friday night so will miss the Djok/Alcaraz match if they put it on the night session

Are they putting a women’s match on tomorrow night? (Don’t think they’ve got a choice as there aren’t any men’s matches!)

JaneJeffer · 07/06/2023 18:04

At least teenagers are useful for something Chessie while their patience lasts anyway

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 07/06/2023 18:05

The women seem to be during the day Fizzy

OP posts:
Raahh · 07/06/2023 18:07

Fizzy I don't think either of the matches tomorrow are night matches- Sabalenka/Muchova doesn't start before 3pm (2pm), followed by the Swiatek/Haddad Maia match.

I can't imagine them going on very late. (The mixed doubles final starts at 12pm(11am)in the morning- I actually think this should be given a 'prime' slot, since it's a final).

IceandIndigo · 07/06/2023 18:17

Cheers for the new thread! Looks like Sascha is close to taking the match. I find the business about insulin absolutely bonkers, obviously he needs to be allowed to do it on court.

IceandIndigo · 07/06/2023 18:18

It’s already a big deal for someone with insulin-dependent diabetes to reach such a high level in professional sport, you’d think they’d want to celebrate that, not make it difficult for him!

IceandIndigo · 07/06/2023 18:18

Disappointed for Ons.

Fizzywinegum · 07/06/2023 18:20

Oh - maybe both men’s semis will be on in the day as well then

JaneJeffer · 07/06/2023 18:23

Etcheverry looks like someone but I can't think who, Al Pacino maybe?

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 07/06/2023 18:25

Well done Sascha
