Awww this will have me in tears

The emotional series tells the story of married couple Nicci and Andrew, whose daughter Marnie has a life-threatening condition.

The doctors believe it is in her best interests to be allowed to die, but Nicci and Andrew disagree, leading to a fight through the legal process as they struggle to contemplate the decision.

The official synopsis for Best Interests says: "This a story of a family driven apart by having to make choices no parent would ever want to make.

Sharon Horgan and Michael Sheen play married couple Nicci and Andrew, they have two daughters: Katie played by Alison Oliver and Marnie played by Niamh Moriarty.

"Marnie has a life-threatening condition. The doctors believe it is in her best interests to be allowed to die, but her loving family disagree.

And so begins a fight that will take them through every stage of a legal process, as they struggle to contemplate this huge decision. Who decides? And in whose best interests will it be?"

as usual sure all will be on iPlayer but this will be tv paced

be interesting seeing sharon in a drama /serious role rather than usual comedy /sex roles she plays

Thank you @Blondeshavemorefun :)

martinisforeveryone · 06/06/2023 20:07

Thanks for the tag @Blondeshavemorefun I saw Sharron interviewed about this and it does sound thought provoking and interesting, but it's a bit close to home so I don't think I'll be watching. Should say, not close to me, but to someone I know who's recently gone through something awful.

tommyshelbysbunnit · 06/06/2023 20:36

I'm not sure I can watch this one, it looks really traumatic

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/06/2023 20:54

Sorry to hear this @martinisforeveryone 💐

Is this based on a true story does anyone know?

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/06/2023 21:04

Seems not based on real life

But reminds me of a book I read but otherway found if my memory js correct

Their child is dying of leukaemia /cancer and they have another child so can use her stem cell or something like that

But think they child wants to die and the parents want to keep alive

Does that ring any bells

Can't face watching this. Anything with sick/vulnerable/abused children is my Achilles

tommyshelbysbunnit · 06/06/2023 22:34

I think it was a film and a book

butterpuffed · 07/06/2023 07:58

Hope you enjoyed your holiday 😊

lazymum99 · 07/06/2023 09:08

Thanks @Blondeshavemorefun I will watch it but a tough subject. Might give that book a go that you mentioned also

lazymum99 · 07/06/2023 09:22

Another really good book which dealt with the same theme was ‘After the End’ by Clare Mackintosh

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/06/2023 13:17

What did you think

Leonardsfavouritecake · 12/06/2023 23:07

The acting in this was fantastic. Not surprising given the cast. Do we think Nicci and Andrew have different opinions about what is in Marnie's best interests? They are arriving at the court separately.

catin8oots · 12/06/2023 23:35

I enjoyed it. Well acted. And the flip flopping backwards and forwards was done well - not confusing in like some other series.

Yes they do

purpleme12 · 13/06/2023 00:09

I don't understand why Katie's friend's mum would think the mum was selfish for having Marnie

toomuchlaundry · 13/06/2023 00:33

I missed the beginning so this may have been covered but could they have found out during pregnancy scans that Marnie had life limiting illness. Also when the dad said to Kate she has always been dying (or words to that effect). Maybe they were on a different page right from the start

purpleme12 · 13/06/2023 00:37

I don't think they knew before she was born.
I think they found out after.

I think when he said she's always been dying, he meant because when she got her diagnosis/when they eventually found out more about what's wrong with her, it was something that was terminal/that she couldn't recover from.

That's my interpretation of it
