Awww this will have me in tears

The emotional series tells the story of married couple Nicci and Andrew, whose daughter Marnie has a life-threatening condition.

The doctors believe it is in her best interests to be allowed to die, but Nicci and Andrew disagree, leading to a fight through the legal process as they struggle to contemplate the decision.

The official synopsis for Best Interests says: "This a story of a family driven apart by having to make choices no parent would ever want to make.

Sharon Horgan and Michael Sheen play married couple Nicci and Andrew, they have two daughters: Katie played by Alison Oliver and Marnie played by Niamh Moriarty.

"Marnie has a life-threatening condition. The doctors believe it is in her best interests to be allowed to die, but her loving family disagree.

And so begins a fight that will take them through every stage of a legal process, as they struggle to contemplate this huge decision. Who decides? And in whose best interests will it be?"

as usual sure all will be on iPlayer but this will be tv paced

be interesting seeing sharon in a drama /serious role rather than usual comedy /sex roles she plays

Thank you @Blondeshavemorefun . I’ve previously worked with parents having to make that absolutely heartbreaking decision and was never an easy choice and always done out of the deepest love for their child.

It really is an extremely emotive series and the acting is absolutely outstanding.

Beeswood · 14/06/2023 22:05

I am finding this totally heartrending, the actress playing Marnie is wonderful.

When I was a nurse, I sat with a young girl who was brain dead, she was never left alone. Still upsets me thinking about her. To be the parents in such a situation is unimaginable pain.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/06/2023 22:19

Yes must be horrible to make this choice as a parent x

I'm loving this. I was apprehensive, because of the subject, but it's being brilliantly portrayed, and - I think - quite sensitive, without glossing over things. Being able to 'see' the situation from all the different perspectives is very clever and adds the depth and nuance.

Lottapianos · 15/06/2023 14:53

'Being able to 'see' the situation from all the different perspectives is very clever and adds the depth and nuance.'

Absolutely, I can see both points of view and you feel heartbroken for both of them. Also glad that the doctors aren't portrayed as cold heartless monsters

Its a very tough watch. I cried through most of episode one. Great acting all round. Sharon Horgan is a very good and very underrated actor

The Christian people are sowing seeds of doubt in the mum's mind.

What else has the man with small arms been in?
I've seen him recently

purpleme12 · 19/06/2023 21:29

Does anyone else feel bad for the dad

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/06/2023 21:46

I feel for the dad. He wants his daughter to. Not be in pain anymore

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/06/2023 22:07

Oh bless Katie at the end of tonight's

Her best interests

Guessing that's to let her go peacefully

Who plays the bobbed pro life. Wasn't she in the nurse thing we liked that was cancelled after one series

The 3 mums who went back to work in hospital and her hubby took an overdose

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 19/06/2023 22:09

Yes she was

MrsLargeEmbodied · 19/06/2023 22:16

And Kelly in Mum

purpleme12 · 19/06/2023 22:17

But no one knows what the man with the small arms has been in?

lazymum99 · 19/06/2023 22:37

Was Maternal cancelled? I really enjoyed that series

purpleme12 · 19/06/2023 22:40

They're not doing a second series it said

Xmasbaby11 · 19/06/2023 22:40

Maternal was only one series and quite recently - hope there will be a second one.

That’s Mat Fraser - he’s been in lots of stuff.

Yes I know but I meant I've seen him in something recently and I just don't know what it was and thought someone might have seen him too but maybe not 😭

They've said there won't be

Xmasbaby11 · 20/06/2023 00:00

Oh, that's a shame about Maternal.

I have just watched episode 3 of Best Interests and although I love Sharon Horgan, I find her character less relatable than the dad or Katie, perhaps just that I feel I understand his position more. It's very good at showing the story from different sides. I do really feel for the doctor who is probably attached to Marnie and family but has to use her medical knowledge to make decisions.

purpleme12 · 20/06/2023 00:11

I feel for the dad more too.

But I think we never know how we would react into we're in the situation.
Even though I feel for the dad, if I was in that situation who knows if I'd be doing what the mum is out of sheer desperation

He was just in Full Monty in Disney+
