Just tell the interviewer that you've no objections to them wanting to shag your spouse, and the job should be yours 😀

😂

I definitely don't mind pimping out my ex-husband

tribpot · 02/06/2023 14:23

That is a lovely piece @slamfightbrightlight

slamfightbrightlight · 02/06/2023 14:29

Instead of working I’ve spent far too much of today watching clips of interviews with the actors. They really put their all into filming. I hope they’re all off having a nice holiday!

tribpot · 02/06/2023 14:35

This must be such a strange time for them, as they finished filming months ago (in February) so they will already have dealt with the ending of the show, and 'recovering' from those characters, and then have to come back into it for the benefit of everyone else, for whom it only finished this week. I guess they're used to it as TV and film actors (no-one will ever surpass Olivia Colman who went on Graham Norton's show to promote a film she couldn't remember anything about, as so long had passed since it was shot) but this one is on an epic scale.

soberfabulous · 02/06/2023 18:34

This is incredible, thank you for sharing. The final line....😭❤️

I remain absolutely obsessed and have now listened to every podcast that exists and read almost every online article. We are all still discussing it in various WhatsApp groups.

JaneFondue · 02/06/2023 20:13

Beautiful article. I adore JS, his intensity, his earnestness, his single mindedness...

I won't say what I do, but I work in a creative field, and the creativity on this show has been so inspiring to me. The script, the music, the acting, the costumes, the direction...

Spamham · 02/06/2023 20:21

I’m gonna drag the tone down a bit now, but my favourite line in the last episode was….
”cnt is as cnt does” 😆

SunnyEgg · 02/06/2023 20:21

Lovely article

He’s right about the writers and Jesse

tribpot · 02/06/2023 20:30

I think that could be the slogan for the whole show, @Spamham !

Spamham · 02/06/2023 23:27

Definitely 🤣

Jesse Armstrong on "emotional equality" and "mutually-assured destruction" in Shiv and Tom's final scene

"For me, they end in a place of a certain rather terrifying, cool equality...There's an emotional equality that they've never shared 'cause Tom has always been subordinate, or he's been in that role in a relationship where there's something, essentially, where he's trying to please her or get her validation. And that, because of the material change between them, has altered.
"And yet she retains that queenly name and that plutocrat's money, whereas he's--he'll probably get his share options soon, but he's still something of a salary man. And so there's a haughty respect on both sides.
"..It's not like, good equality. It's 1984 USSR-USA equality, right. It's mutually-assured destruction... don't think it's equality they can build on. It's that...you sometimes see in a political or showbiz marriage, a rather frozen, terrifying..it's a stalemate."

Thank you! I totally got that from the last scene. That they are now more even and there is a kind of stalemate and mutual respect whereas before Tom was always inferior.

The music. It’s wonderful. Lots of different pieces for this final season. I could listen to the main theme tune over and over.

teezletangler · 03/06/2023 00:33

I love that description of the new Tom-Shiv relationship! Perfectly sums it up.

Furries · 03/06/2023 01:43

I hadn’t watched from when it first came out. Started watching a couple of months ago from season 1.

Got to the point where Season 4 was released weekly - watched the first 5 episodes as they are out and then got distracted. Watched the rest this week, with the final 2 episodes tonight.

Does anyone else watch with subtitles? I tend to watch all dramas/films with subtitles now as, otherwise, I seem to miss loads!

Unless it was just my tv/sky box, they completely fucked up the subtitles for the final episode - SO annoying, had to turn them off. Whilst the “recap” was playing, the subtitles showing were for the start of the new episode (if that makes sense). I had the episode recorded twice and it did it for both. Not impressed.

I genuinely laughed out loud when Karl and Gerri were trying to convince Tom that he was the best person to tell Logan that his latest takeover idea (Pierce) was a mistake because he was family so Logan would most likely listen to him because he's family and he treats family differently...only for Tom to reply with a crestfallen look on his face, "No, sure. Though he did once call me the Cunt of Monte Cristo."

Spamham · 03/06/2023 20:25

I’d forgotten about that one - superb! Thanks for sharing. Maybe we should have a thread where people send in their favourite Succession one liners / quotes? The writing was so razor-sharp.

MarciaSaysANumber · 03/06/2023 22:20

Can’t remember if anyone has already shared this: Insta reel - ‘Succession, Controlling the Narrative’ - show runner and director on the effect of the ending on the characters. (And the shoemakers.)

Anyone up for a game of "write the next series"?

Here's a starter...

Season 5, Episode 1 : Mouths Sewn Shut

Three months have passed, and Connor and Willa are hosting a baby shower for Shiv at the mansion. It is the first time the family will assemble since Logan's funeral.

Tensions are running high at the mansion since Connor arrived back from his overseas posting to find all of building's historical features were removed during renovations. The display cabinets for Logan's medals have also been relocated from the drawing room to his dressing room.

Roman and Gerri are first to arrive (together?). The elevator opens. Connor greets Gerri warmly and ushers her in before sweeping Roman to the side. "Did you hear the news?" he asks his younger brother.

ShivRoysBlender · 03/06/2023 23:03

Season 5, episode 10: SLEEPLESS, IN ALL THEM TIME.

Willa prepares to open her new play 'Roythority' on Broadway, which critics call a searing indictment of power and nepotism.

Connor is preparing to fly in from Liechtenstein (where he is deputy under-secretary to the US ambassador in Vaduz), intensely proud of his wife and longing to see her for the first time in a year, yet nervous at meeting the sibs, who have banded together to try unsuccessfully to get the play banned.

Shiv has reinvented herself as a TV personality and the star of her own ATN show "Prison Shiv" where she discusses issues relating to politics and the criminal justice system, having found a niche at ATN by pretending to be a centrist and thus outraging ATN's typical viewers and ensuring they keep hate-watching.

Tom prepares to throw Mencken (who has just been arraigned on federal charges relating to the riots that followed in the wake of the Federal Court's decision to reverse the result of the election) under a bus, while still trying to please ATN's right wing audience.

Kendall throws himself into the East River in despair at being portrayed as a whiny manbaby in Willa's play. He's rescued by a seal.

Roman spends the entire episode drinking and masturbating.

TheHateIsNotGood · 04/06/2023 00:52

For me it was the 'fairytale' ending - Tom as CEO and Greg/Judas with the 'keeper sticker' on his head. Ken out in the cold like a Graham Greene character, Roman madly content and Shiv thanking her lucky stars she's still in the game, for archaic "baby lady" reasons.

Excellent series - TV at its very best. For me the funniest S4 moment was Tom validating his needing some 'marching powder' by saying to Greg:

"Are you saying that all Aztecs were stupid as that sounds pretty racist to me"

Lottapianos · 04/06/2023 08:18

'differently...only for Tom to reply with a crestfallen look on his face, "No, sure. Though he did once call me the Cunt of Monte Cristo."'

Continuing the theme, one of my favourite ever Logan lines is 'play it smart today, you won't look a cunt tomorrow' 😂

SandLResources · 04/06/2023 09:00

As crude as the language is, this exchange spoke volumes at the height of the cruises scandal. Roman still desperate for any kind of paternal affection and Logan Roy is beating it down.

Brutal but Roman's response bitingly hilarious.

Roman: Dad? Want me to ride with ya?
Logan: You wanna suck my dick?
Roman: Is what he said to his son as the sexual assault allegations poured in.
