Have now watched it twice and may have to start again from S1. Amazing writing, phenomenal attention to detail and beautiful score.

Recommendations if you haven’t already seen them:
Better call Saul Netflix
Guilt BBC
and Ted Lasso on Apple TV- completely different but equally brilliant!

With hugo v Carolina I just assumed Tom was anted his own person as clearly hugo was "Ken's guy"

Rather than anything shiv's said. It was just hugo getting his comupanxw for backing the wrong horse.

Greg will be fine. Matson was just joking calling him Judas. (As he is a prick) everyone laughed affectionately.

what happened to the Logan kids buying the Pierce media empire though?
Yes, technically that deal is still on, as it was based on the sale of Waystar. However, it was partly contingent on Shiv divorcing Tom, so I think the deal will be allowed to fall apart. I can't see Nan Pierce wanting to sell to Roman after he basically appointed Mencken to the presidency (or not ... I hope that the call gets overturned).

Good point about Nan being unhappy with the election result.

I disagree with the comment above about Greg being fine. I don’t think Matsson was joking, I think he was hiding the truth behind what sounded like a joke - he wouldn’t take well to knowing that Greg betrayed him to Kendall!

I think what Tom said was pretty close to the truth, that Matsson hates him but Tom had just enough capital to keep Greg employed at Waystar, but at a heavily reduced salary.

From his first moment vomiting out of a costume and getting sacked from a low salaried job in a Waystar amusement park Greg had shown that his only real talent was to parasite on to the Roys. Nepotism had seen him given a title and a salary far beyond what he could possibly have achieved without that family connection.

I think he was still going to benefit from the family connection and through his history with Tom (possibly including Tom’s nagging fear that Greg knew too much), but it would not be as overt. Matsson wanted to run a much tighter ship, cut things to the bone, and and he also found the Roys nepotism distasteful, so I can believe that Tom had to do a bit of convincing to get him to agree to keep Greg on.

SunnyEgg · 31/05/2023 10:00

I’m not sure any of them have the oomph for Pierce anymore. They seem a bit broken and a lot of their power was from Waystar ownership and being next in line

tribpot · 31/05/2023 10:11

he wouldn’t take well to knowing that Greg betrayed him to Kendall!

Thing is, both camps were leaking like sieves the whole time. Ebba was constantly leaking to the Waystar people, Greg leaking to Matsson, there didn't seem to be any expectation of anything being kept confidential.

And Greg leaking to Kendall worked in Matsson's favour possibly. Did Shiv decide to vote against Kendall, knowing she had another route back to power through Tom?

I totally agree that Greg's main skill is to be a parasite on the Roys. He's done enough for Matsson to superficially find him useful, but once there's no point having a mole in the Roy camp, can he be useful enough? Hope not. Even by Roy standards, Greg is a piece of shit.

I really recommend Ozark if you are looking for a dark series with incredible acting and strong female characters. V stressful though.

First two seasons were brilliant but I absolutely hated the last season and the ending.

slamfightbrightlight · 31/05/2023 11:36

Fully agree with Nesbi. Greg has limited capital with the Roys out of Waystar.

Watching the Ted Lasso finale - where Harriet Walter is wondrously vile. Reminded me that someone mentioned her being in ‘Flowers’ yesterday - that is such a different (small but crucial) role! ‘Flowers’ is brilliant, and very worthy of your post-Roy time.

'Reminded me that someone mentioned her being in ‘Flowers’ yesterday - that is sucha different (small but crucial) role! ‘Flowers’ is brilliant, and very worthy of your post-Roy time.'

That was me 😊 I love that show. If I remember right, she plays a gay biker vicar in it and she's brilliant as ever!

Spoilers!

Tots678 · 31/05/2023 13:17

I thought that Connor at the end looked so sad - his wife was following her wisht to be an ?actor, I think, in the US (proving she was ditsy and money grabbing as had been hinted previously, but you hoped she really did have Connor as a priority) and he was off to ? Oman. So a distant but 'exciting' marriage.

I mean... I don't think Willa ever had Connor as her priority. She basically had to force herself to marry him 100% for money only.

And Connor wanted to go to Slovenia but it's highly unlikely Mencken (even if he wins) will keep his promise. As Shiv told Willa, she is likely to keep Connor 😂

MarciaSaysANumber · 31/05/2023 13:40

Willy’s a playwright … Not yet a playwright’s playwright; who knows if she’ll settle for buying success, or if she’ll actually strive to become the next Lucy Prebble ..

MarciaSaysANumber · 31/05/2023 13:42

Yup, I definitely wrote ‘Willy’. Angry

Bloody phone’s going straight in the bin.

Barry just gets better and better and just like with Succession, Bill Hader wraps it all up in 4 series.

I’ve just started Barry as well. It’s absolutely brilliant.

MustardGreenAndPlum · 31/05/2023 15:37

Greg will be kept as Tom’s pain sponge and his role will primarily be to sack people. He will be known as Greg Scarper, the Greg Reaper or Gregor Gregdie; people will simultaneously laugh at him and avoid him but Greg won’t care because he still has his watch.

I wonder if anyone calls Willa Willy - in honour of the heroine of the second Indiana Jones movie of course (the excellent Kate Capshaw).

A further word to say Harriet Walter is simply magnificent in everything and absolutely stole the show as the vile Fanny Dashwood back in the day in Sense and Sensibility. She is perfection.

Willa couldn't really have made it any clearer to Connor that she was marrying him against her better instincts - her acceptance of his proposal was "fuck it", not exactly a glowing endorsement. And at their actual wedding she admitted the money and security was part of what was driving her - I mean he was her client when she was a sex worker for god's sake. But it still broke my heart that she's now trying to shove him on the first plane to Slovenia without her, even though he entirely deserves it.

Don't forget her rehearsal dinner(?) speech "I cannot do this" 😂

Let's not forget how Connor married her whilst his dad actually died - just in case she changed her mind 😂

tribpot · 31/05/2023 18:32

Yeah she tried to back out of it, but then he guilted her into it by (correctly) predicting if they didn't go through with it then she'd probably back out. So romantic.

It changed to Slovenia on the night he conceded to Mencken

…and Willa’s face in response to Shiv’s comment she would likely have Connor all to herself was priceless!

Shame we didn’t get to see the cowhide sofa 😂
