I think Shiv goes with Tom because she can't see any other way of grabbing power. But her last scene shows Tom will make her pay. Oh how he will make her pay for all the humiliation he has had to endure from the Roys.

In the podcast Alexander S points out that Mattson noticed that Tom was the only one who did any work. He had to because he's not a Roy. Paid off.

Lot of dismay on Twitter by people upset that Shiv doesn't emerge as a kickass feminist feministing all the way to the top. But actually she was never one. She was always just as venal as the rest of them.

SunnyEgg · 29/05/2023 23:37

Gerri and Carolina can get the woman prize, Gerri in particular.

Treated so badly yet so good

I knew it would end with back of Kendall’s head shot as it’s used in opening but I didn’t expect the sea as the view

JaneFondue · 29/05/2023 23:39

Did anyone notice at the end when Frank says to Karl ' Golden parachute?" and Karl says something about sticking around to make things tough for Tom?

Orders76 · 29/05/2023 23:52

Although well written, very static and boring. A little disappointed.

denimdonut · 30/05/2023 00:04

Roman was definitely glad to be out! I thought the power shift between Tom and Shiv was so well done.

I loved it all! I guessed the outcome too so felt smug 😂

denimdonut · 30/05/2023 00:05

Oh and Greg. Sticker on his head was brilliant.

slamfightbrightlight · 30/05/2023 00:49

But actually she was never one. She was always just as venal as the rest of them.

Her opening scene in this episode was cringe inducing, acting like she and Matsson are on a par (all “we” this and that and then “we announce me as CEO” which nobody in the room confirms and she is oblivious to) when it’s obvious he’s using her to secure the necessary votes.

I liked that little exchange between Frank and Karl - and in turn it showed maybe Tom does have a bit of steeliness to him when a few lines later he’s telling Greg they’re both goners.

Mydoghealsmyheart · 30/05/2023 01:08

Just seen that the actress who plays Shiv has given birth to her first child. The message she posts about Succession is so emotional, explaining how it’s been life changing and now she her life has changed once again with the arrival of her baby. So sweet.

Morestrangerthings · 30/05/2023 01:36

You may already know this but Sarah Snook (shiv) was the lead character in a good Australian tv series based on Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina. Modern day Australia. The character of Daisy is brilliant. Called ‘The beautiful lie.’ Worth a watch at any rate.

Re: Shiv/Tom- I think part of it is because he has changed into Logan, and the crueller and more powerful he is the more she wants him. She couldn’t get her dad’s approval so maybe now she can get his!

Oh, interesting take. And more I think on it, the more I think you could be right.

Tots678 · 30/05/2023 05:57

I airways felt sorry for Kendal - he seemed the weakest and most vulnerable.

I thought Tom wasn’t the brightest but was useful as a frontman. And is in that role again. Not a new Logan.

Info from Logsn’s brother about dying sister and traumatic arrival in US could go towards explaining his ruthlessness.

franke · 30/05/2023 07:20

The scenes between Tom and Greg. Firstly fighting in the toilet 😂

Then the scene where Greg congratulates Tom. Tom calls him a piece of shit and just in that moment the expression on Greg's face, to me, was conveying to Tom "but I know where the bodies are buried" (Tom had asked Greg to extract a file from his computer minutes after Logan died). Then in the next beat Tom tells Greg he still has a job. There's an understanding between them. It was brilliantly done.

The fight between the sibs in full view of everyone because of all the glass walls. Devastating for Kendall, he was laid completely bare.

I actually saw some hope for Shiv and Tom in their last scene. She has completely fucked Kendall and at that point for all she knows, has alienated her entire family. She's pregnant and vulnerable and needs Tom now more than ever. But equally he needs her, he wanted her in the car with him. I think the tentative holding of hands was the beginning of a reconciliation. Or something.

Loved it. Peter's cheese 😂 That whole scene was so beautiful and heartbreaking.

hopeishere · 30/05/2023 07:27

I saw it as Roman also rubbing his head to open his stitches because he wanted to feel pain.

I loved the video of Logan it showed the kids there was a side of him they had no clue about.

Shiv settling for Tom was grim. Imprisoned to the whims of another man. He knows he has the upper hand.

They were all so damaged by their dad but so ghastly at the same time.

The podcast is definitely worth a listen!

ExcaliburBaby · 30/05/2023 07:28

what do we think Kendall will do next? can the sibs reconcile and just “be family”?? they have always managed to put betrayals and business backstabbing to the side / behind them in the last. but was this all too much / too far?

MarciaSaysANumber · 30/05/2023 07:32

IIRC it was exactly at the halfway point of the final episode that the sibs agreed Kendall could be king. Those few happy moments afterwards were heartbreakingly beautiful.

And then ‘the eldest boy!’ - exactly what Logan must have said to Kendall when he promised him the kingdom at 7 years old …

PuppyMonkey · 30/05/2023 07:32

Let's not forget Connor! He stayed true to form and actually it looks like he had the best relationship with his dad

the siblings watching Connor do I’m a Little Teapot Fuck Off Fuck Off was so moving. He was happy, relaxed and comfortable taking the piss and acting silly, he had a “proper” dad.

tribpot · 30/05/2023 07:32

I think eventually Kendall will reconcile with them. They have all forgiven each other's betrayals over and over again. This one is deeper but ultimately the three of them don't have anyone else.

teezletangler · 30/05/2023 07:40

I don't think Shiv has influence over Tom anymore. He's the CEO. She's out. He didn't HAVE to accept her back. He could have just as easily left her.

I think she does still have influence. Yes, the power dynamic between them has shifted for the first time. But I have always seen Tom as the one who loves more, despite the backstabbing. And he is obsessed with the trappings of the Roy name and legacy, and marriage to Shiv still gives him that status, especially now through their child.

On a totally different note, I think my favourite was when Roman quips about the "second week itch"!

MarciaSaysANumber · 30/05/2023 07:40

I’m sure it will take Kendall years, if not forever, to not wake up with a scheme and a plan that requires sibling and underling support.

What happens about Pierce Global? Presumably they’re expecting to go ahead with that purchase (which was after all somewhat dependent on the Waystar sale). Will they find a way to work together there? Or has it been abandoned?

slamfightbrightlight · 30/05/2023 07:41

Could Shiv buy Pierce while remaining married to Tom? Feels like a conflict/competitions issue. I don’t think Nan Pierce would sell unless they were all out completely.

SunnyEgg · 30/05/2023 07:46

Shiv did have power in the end. She had the final vote and it all rest on her

Tom still loved her more so they kind of balance out

hopeishere · 30/05/2023 07:50

I hope two seconds later Conor appears and brings Kendal straight to a therapist!

JaneFondue · 30/05/2023 07:59

I don't think Kendall will make up with Shiv. That was unforgivable. He will probably retreat to Rava.

I thought Kendall might drown in the ocean but I should have known Jesse A would never allow such a soap opera ending.

Loved the dialogue between Shiv and Roman about murdering Kendall. Said so much.

franke · 30/05/2023 08:04

@JaneFondue In the podcast Jeremy Strong says one of his improvised endings was to climb over the barrier at Battery Park and be pulled back by Colin. But it didn't make the cut.

TheLemon · 30/05/2023 08:08

What was the suggestion that Kendall wasn't Logan's? Some quick fire line I missed about his father being a photocopier guy / delivery driver, and Shiv being the bloodline?
