I am not paying attention to thread lengths these days Grin.

No British women in the French Open - apparently the first time since 2009 there’s been no British women at a Grand Slam. Such a shame as in the last couple of years it looked like things were going well in that area but now Jo’s retired and Emma’s out, and people like Harriet and Katie B seemed to be doing well last year but less so recently.

kazzaD66 · 25/05/2023 14:31

I saw that reported on the BBC website chessie but I don't understand what's happening with Jodie Burrage. She's been training at the NTC this week and I had assumed that she wasn't in Paris because she had automatically qualified for the main draw. I think she's ranked about 109. So I'm a bit puzzled Hmm

ChessieFL · 25/05/2023 15:16

Jodie’s pulled out of the FO due to a minor injury apparently kazza

kazzaD66 · 25/05/2023 16:14

Ah, thanks Chessie. What* *a shame for her but obviously not too bad if she's training at the NTC.

kazzaD66 · 25/05/2023 17:03

I see Djok is in the same half of the draw as Alcaraz. Dan has Kokkinakis in the first round, so good luck with that! Hmm

Raahh · 25/05/2023 17:07

kazza yes, I was checking the draw earlier- and all I could think was we will have 2 weeks of build up to a Carlos/Djok final now (if they both get that far). Tim and his mates were very disappointed not to get that match up in Rome.

Charismatic Cam is playing Benoit. That could be fun Grin (and noisy).

Disappointing loss for Casper in Geneva- he had the first set but lost the next 2 were quite tight. It's annoying Geneva isn't on Prime, they have some interesting matches today.

Arthur Fils is having a fun tournament- dramatic end to his match against Ymer when Ymer smashed a hole in the umpire's chair and was defaulted after near the end of the first set. And today, Fil gets a walkover against Felix AA. I feel like I haven't seen Felix play for ages, so I don't know what is happening there.

Don't think you'll need parapluie - not for the first week at any rate. 25C here, haven't worn a jumper for a few days & having to close shutters to keep house cool in afternoon!

Have been very busy with estate agents (don't ask - no house yet), DGC, voluntary English lessons, card group, walking group, garden visits................................. so am not very up to date with the tennis.

Raahh · 26/05/2023 13:16

Afternoon* magi! good news about the weather. Rome was very damp and grey at times. But it gave us all time to brush up our language skills (along with SamGrin).

Sounds like you are keeping busy !

Annabel's husband has died.

Raahh · 27/05/2023 07:08

Oh, Jane I've just seen that. So very sad. [Sad].

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 27/05/2023 08:04

Oh no that’s so sad - poor Annabel Sad

Hello magi - lovely to see you - sounds as if you’re keeping busy!

Can’t believe that the French open starts tomorrow - eek! Need to check out the draw and plan my viewing

I’m going to a bottomless brunch later today - I’m slightly worried about it - think that I might need quite a bit of sofa time tomorrow Grin

kazzaD66 · 27/05/2023 12:46

Yes, I've just seen that about Annabel's husband, very sudden and sad.

Good to hear from you magi Smile

Raahh · 28/05/2023 10:12

I have just switched on, Court Suzanne Lenglen has an annoying shadow on it, and the new roof ruins the look of the place really. But I think that about Chatrier too.

I have not orgainsed this school holiday very well- far too many appointments and things, so I might not get to see as much as I would like.

It's frustrating only having a choice of 2 matches, when even at smaller tournaments we get a choice of more through Prime. I am not getting Discovery as well for that though I say that now Grin.

Khachanov is wearing very odd shorts.

Fizzywinegum · 28/05/2023 11:00

It looks very hot in Paris - it’s a bit cooler here today (thank goodness!)

I was thinking it might be worth getting Discovery + just for the month Raahh and then cancelling - think it’s about £6.99. I need to check with the DS’s first as we might have got it already!

I’m watching Sabalenka - there are no annoying shadows on this court yet

Raahh · 28/05/2023 11:02

FizzyI was wondering if I could just do it discovery for a month. Definitely worth looking at.

The Sabenka match looked like it was going to be tighter than it has turned out to be.

Fizzywinegum · 28/05/2023 11:15

I think it probably is worth just getting it for the month Raahh - Dan Evans match is on there now

The Entertainment and sports pass is £6.99 a month and can be cancelled

Fizzywinegum · 28/05/2023 12:16

I’ve caved and got Discovery +

Dan has lost the first set against Kokk

The menfolk are off to Wembley for the footy in a few minutes so that’s my next few days sorted!

Fizzywinegum · 28/05/2023 13:47

Oh dear not a good day for Dan Sad

There are some pretty epic matches already - khachanov is into a fifth set and Goffin and Hubi are also into a fifth set although Hubi has got a break - I’d forgotten how long these 5 set matches take on clay!

Apparently it’s Yannick Noah day today as it’s the 4O year anniversary of his RG win Shock - he’s been entertaining the crowd by singing with Mats Wilander on guitar Grin

Fizzywinegum · 28/05/2023 13:56

Both Hubi and Karen through after 5 tough sets - Karen’s shorts look like a Sewing Bee reinvention project!

Ooh Marion is on her way!

Fizzywinegum · 28/05/2023 13:57

Erm interesting outfit Marion Hmm

Poor Karen’s got a tough crowd!

ChessieFL · 28/05/2023 16:56

Not sure I’m going to be able to watch much of the French Open - I’m on holiday and our apartment only has Freeview. I can probably watch on my iPad if I can get it out of DD’s clutches. Even so, as I’m in holiday I will be expected to go out and Do Things rather than sitting around watching tennis so most of this week will probably just be scorewatching.

Raahh · 28/05/2023 17:01

I have been out today and it looks like I will be out tomorrow and at least part of Tuesday. Very bad planning Grin
I see that Stef had a bit of a wobble, and it was a tough match for Hubi/Goffin.
I managed to see about 5 minutes of Sakkari- and then later she lost.

Weather definitely looks a lot better than it did in Rome.

OP posts:
Raahh · 28/05/2023 17:02

FIzzy that was my thought re- Karen's shorts- they look like they had been patched together with strange flappy bits at the back Grin

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 28/05/2023 17:10

Stef did have a bit of a wobble - he was lucky that his match didn’t go to 5 sets - after the match he said that he was going to spend some time drinking red wine - I’m not sure that’s such a good plan for winning his first Grand Slam Grin
