Just thought I would post this now, although I think Acorn is only for the US(?)

Looks like it will be a busy week with series 3 of Guilt starting on BBC Scotland this Tuesday 25 and then BBC 1 on Thursday 27 - and iPlayer

I'm so please about Guilt. I've only pretty much found out it's coming back.

Well looks like I am the only one interested.

Watched last night and was almost a relief to have a straight forward representation of a police investigation.

The 70s(?) setting seems to have had some of the rough edges of that time smoothed away. ie little hints at women being discriminated against but no out right sexism.

I'm watching! Loving the 70s vibe but I agree that some of the rough edges have been rubbed off. Dalgleish's sidekick would not have been able to wear trousers to work imho and there was no smoking either as far as I could see.

I was confused by tonight's ending. Was that it?

duc748 · 29/04/2023 15:34

I watched it and enjoyed it. I agree it did kinda just 'stop' at the end, though. Nice to see yer man from Y Gwyll again.

Yes overall it wasn't as satifying as I remember the first series.

Seemed they tried to cram too much into just 2 episodes.

And they do seem to have cut out any police procedural bits, just shows the two of them swooping down from London is a snazzy car, getting suspects to talk and then leaving! I presume they did inform the local police and left them to arrest and charge the Doctor.

Haven't read the originals but is it meant to be that the female sargeant has some sort of crush on Dalgleish or just she just repsect him for his professionalism. That first scence of the poetry reading was a bit weird.

And probably yes, even as plain clothers I wondered if she could wear a trouser suit. But maybe that was one of the perks of being promoted out of uniform.

In any other police series from that time their would have been both sexist and racist comments about her if not too her face but behind her back. But can see how a very posh Inspector (or is he a Commander) would get deference.

Also did fast tracking exist in 70s?

Anyhow, I did enjoy straight forward story telling. And the scenery.

But this and other series makes me think just how many big rambling houses are ther in the UK?!

I didn't watch Season 1 so have watched the first episode of Series 2 and found it boring... sorry!

IwantToRetire · 29/04/2023 19:01

I think that can happen, if you watch the first series of something you are sort of invested in it, and also have some idea of the back story, so are more willing to go along with later series.

But starting at series 2 I can see it could be a bit bland.

I did wonder if they had had a bit of a budget cut, and that was partly why is was basically the two main characters interacting with a few others.

This week's episode(s) is much better.

duc748 · 05/05/2023 21:57

Yes, it's a lot more fun. But surely, any bloke who calls himself by his surname is a massive red flag? 😀

TigerDroveAgain · 05/05/2023 22:09

Not like ....

....Morse?

Clawdy · 05/05/2023 22:29

Enjoying it, like the 70s vibe.

duc748 · 05/05/2023 22:39

Apart from the fact that he might as well have had "I'm the creepiest bloke in Creepsville" tattooed on his forehead, still enjoyed it!

IwantToRetire · 06/05/2023 17:51

I do think the way they have filmed this series is somehow different. I dont remember Dalgleish just strolling round being pensive and looking a bit concerned about Kate.

I am sure that a bit like the original tv series (haven't read the books) there was more about him having deep and meaningful conversations, sort of religious etc..

And felt a bit cheated this time as the solution wasn't shown when it was discovered but only announced by Dalgleish.

And again not having read the books, they seem to be trying to hard to make Kate central, in the first episode this week, it was filmed as though she was the main character. Dont remember in the books that her character was so fixated on Dalgleish.

But - still enjoyed it.

I watched the last 2 episodes (didn't realising it was finishing) and thought it better, even though I have seen this storyline before in 2 different versions.

Still enjoyed it in a laid back sort of way, and not always sure they aren't mixing up the 70s with the 60s.

And confused by the Dalgliesh Kate relationship.

Is she going to launch of into her own career.
