Was Athelstan gay? Or it that just a figment of the writer’s imagination to explain the Ingilmundr influence and why Athelstan listened to him.
also why did Utred ask Athelstan not to have any children as a pre condition of swearing Northumbria to him ( and thus creating England)
was it a deal with edmunds mum ( can’t remember name) that Edmund should become king after Athelstan?
is that historically true?
I enjoyed it but there was too much to-ing and fro-big and things happening with little explanation or time considerations and not much character development of the new characters. The new characters were just there to fill in plot holes imo.It could easily have been a whole season.

It looks like it’s true that he never married, but I’d be surprised if there’s any documented evidence of his sexuality. In the context of TLK I thought he was being asked not to marry to avoid any dispute about the succession, but it was also implied that Uhtred was giving him an excuse not to have to marry a woman.

I loved it and was so glad Uhtred still had a couple of his old friends with him. I thught Uhtred and Aethelstan exchanging a bit of a knowing look about the not marrying thing, as though they both knew he would never want to marry anyway.

Yeah I think Uhtred did that to free him from the pressure of having to marry and have children.

I joined a Facebook TLK fan page and unjoined again very quickly. So much complaining about the ending. I know everyone obviously can have their opinions and don't have to like it but omg so much moaning!
Also every other post and comment was about how they'd ruined it by going "woke" and how they were trying to push being gay in viewers faces 🙄

I laughed aloud at that! Just watched it, with a pizza and some wine. What a fabulous end to the series, although I also wondered where the female characters had gone. I live a bit down the coast from Bebbanburg and used to live in Aegelsburg...

Loved it. Would have been better as a series though. I'll have to watch again as I kept muddling up the names.
