A follow-up film, Seven Kings Must Die, is coming to Netflix on 14 April.

Absolutely loved it! Agree with the name confusion, and slow first half, but it was brilliant and the ending shot absolutely incredible.

Love Uhtred.

Pancakes2023 · 15/04/2023 11:08

It's crazy to think that battle actually took place a millennia ago. I like that the show is based on real historical events. If only Valhalla was real too!

Sux2buthen · 15/04/2023 11:30

@Pancakes2023 ah but maybe it isGrin
It was a great film, I think they did a wonderful job.

Iamdobby63 · 15/04/2023 15:02

I thought it was brilliant, I did feel that some parts were rushed and I think they could have gone into more depth and created a short series. … maybe that’s me being greedy 😍

Im not sure I found the first half slow I just found it lacked depth.

Oh my goodness, the ending was amazing.

uhtredsmum · 15/04/2023 19:06

Watching this evening- feel I should have some mead😂

uhtredsmum · 15/04/2023 20:50

Wonderful, loved it

EvelynKatie · 15/04/2023 20:56

The bit where they were getting into that cave…. tried to hold back tears. The end though!! Bamburgh castle is one of my favourite places just up the coast from me so that final ending just set me off.

Socialdistancechampion · 15/04/2023 21:15

It was everything I wanted from it. It's just a shame it's literally the last kingdom.

RightOnTheEdge · 15/04/2023 21:35

I've just finished watching. My heart hurts a little bit. I can't believe it's all over for good Sad
I loved it! But I did miss all the women. Especially Stiorra I can't believe there wasn't even a mention of her!

IfYouLikePinaCoIadas · 15/04/2023 21:38

Absolutely loved it. Didn't even know there was a film coming out, opened up netflix tonight and there it was.
Not been to Bamburgh Castle yet, and it's miles away, but think I'll drag the kids up this summer.

Alexander is absolute perfection.

FrontierLady · 15/04/2023 22:36

I’m so relieved I’m not the only one getting super emotional about Uhtred and the last kingdom/ seven kings must die. It is just perfection and I felt so emotional at the end of the film 💜

BebbanburgIsMine · 15/04/2023 23:31

Have watched it twice already!

It is fabulous, though I would have liked some mention of Stiorra at least. I also took Vibeke's death really hard in S5, and I wanted to see her reunited with Brida.

The ending was so beautifully done, I cried my eyes out.

After that I started watching from S1 again. TLK really is the best thing there's ever been on tv. I'm totally obsessed with it.

I said this at one point! Where did she go?!

Namchange101 · 16/04/2023 00:11

DH and I have been fans since episode 1 on BBC2. It truly is one of the best things we’ve ever watched - fab casting, writing and production. Some of the shots in the film tonight made me gasp.
I really should have prepared myself emotionally though - hadn’t even contemplated that ending and some bits I couldn’t watch. I’ve been trying to organise a holiday to Northumbria for the past 5 years but the time has never been right… might have to be this year!

Pieceofpurplesky · 16/04/2023 00:40

In the books Stiorra is killed in battle. I was wondering if she would be mentioned

I cried proper tears at the end. I have loved it. And Eric for me ❤️

The shouting I did at Ingilmundr. I hated him so much.

What a fantastic way to round off the most perfect series ever.

I loved it all. Perfectly cast. Beautifully shot and that ending...

I said to DH that they’re SO good at casting the arsehole characters! Fabulous casting!

FuckYouEzekiel · 16/04/2023 13:51

Brilliant, but I missed so many of the old characters.

BronwenFrideswide · 16/04/2023 22:21

Just watched it, avoided this thread until I had done so. Brilliant, excellent ending but I am going to have to re-watch because I got a bit lost in parts (any excuse!).

I too missed many of the old characters.

Underminer · 16/04/2023 23:41

I have been thinking about the ending, and how we are connected back through time to people and places in history. Agree with it being the best thing on tv, I will massively miss it, and will have to watch it again.

IceandIndigo · 18/04/2023 09:41

Just watched this. I liked it, but I'm not sure I understand why they did it as a movie and not a final series? Some of the character development felt a bit rushed. I didn't really understand how Uhtred found out about Ingilmundr working for the other side, and he seemed to go pretty much overnight from being at Athelstan's side to being in the enemy camp. The new Viking leader and his daughter also seemed sort of paint-by-numbers Vikings.

Was initially a bit confused about who Eadgifu was until I worked out that they'd recast the actress. I would have liked them to explain Stiorra's absence, could have had her remarried and living in e.g. Denmark.

Loved the ending, although it would have been more plausible for Uhtred to die on the battlefield I can understand why they wanted the final scene between him and Athelstan.

SomeRolyPolyLittleBatFacedGirl · 18/04/2023 18:25

I didn't realise it was supposed to be Eadgifu at all. There was a lot of travelling up and down the country very very quickly.

I'm just watching the Witcher prequel and Finan is in it without his beard. He looks totally odd.

TheIsleOfTheLost · 19/04/2023 13:08

Just finished it and loved the ending. My one gripe is that the actor still looks about 30, despite helping the original king's grandson on the throne. The names get confusing, but that's actual history, so can't be helped. Everyone is an Aethel.

sashagabadon · 19/04/2023 13:30

Was Athelstan gay? Or it that just a figment of the writer’s imagination to explain the Ingilmundr influence and why Athelstan listened to him.
also why did Utred ask Athelstan not to have any children as a pre condition of swearing Northumbria to him ( and thus creating England)
was it a deal with edmunds mum ( can’t remember name) that Edmund should become king after Athelstan?
is that historically true?
I enjoyed it but there was too much to-ing and fro-big and things happening with little explanation or time considerations and not much character development of the new characters. The new characters were just there to fill in plot holes imo.It could easily have been a whole season.

sashagabadon · 19/04/2023 13:34

I think we need to bring back sone of these old names. It would be great to see some little Utred, Athelstans, Ragnar, iseult and aelswiths running about 😁
