Whoop. Finally starts next Friday - before death in paradise

Beyond Paradise will follow DI Humphrey Goodman solving murder mysteries in the UK

Beyond Paradise is a new Death in Paradise spin-off series revolving around DI Humphrey Goodman, starring Kris Marshall and Sally Bretton.

It's the first time that Death in Paradise has been given a spin-off show and fans are of course very excited! And now we finally know when it will start.

Kris Marshall was hugely popular during his time in the series as the bumbling but brilliant Humphrey.

Kris said: "I had the best time playing Humphrey out in Guadeloupe and whilst I was delighted that he got his happy ending with Martha, I always wanted to know what happened next.

"So it’s a joy to be putting his crumpled jacket back on and seeing how life has panned out for him back in the UK.

Working with Sally is a dream, and I can’t wait to continue Humphrey and Martha’s story and solve a few seemingly impossible mysteries along the way."

Setting up the series, Kris says: "We find Humphrey and Martha having just relocated from London down to Devon in the southwest of England and trying to find their way with their new life. Having moved in with his mother-in-law, there are certain challenges.

"Wherever he goes, he leaves a sort of mini tidal wave of madness behind him and he's causing that tidal wave to ripple through the village of Shipton Abbott."
Here's everything we know about Beyond Paradise...

Well, Martha left Saint Marie, leaving Humphrey devastated. But Humphrey then returned to London and declared he'd move to be with her. And that appeared to be the end of the story.

However, in Beyond Paradise we find the pair living together in Devon. Martha is now his fiancee and Humphrey is hoping for a quieter life. He has a new DI job, but surprise surprise his new hometown has a very high murder rate!

a new adventure awaits as we find them arriving in Shipton Abbott, Martha’s hometown near the beautiful Devonshire coast, having left London.

As they embark on their new life, the couple are quickly thrown in at the deep end as Martha sets out to pursue her dream of running her own restaurant and Humphrey joins the local police force.

"Quickly making an impression on the somewhat eclectic team; DS Esther Williams (Zahra Ahmadi), PC Kelby Hartford (Dylan Llewellyn) and Margo Martins (Felicity Montagu), Humphrey sets out to help crack a host of baffling cases, with the Shipton Abbott squad witnessing a whole new approach to police work…

"Each week the team will be faced with a new crime with a unique puzzle at its heart. The not-so-sleepy town of Shipton Abbott will be rocked by an entire family disappearing without a trace, a woman claiming she was attacked by a suspect from the seventeenth century, the robbery of a highly prized painting, a body bizarrely discovered in a crop circle and a serial arsonist with a seeming distaste for local businesses."

Well I really like it

GoldenCupidon · 26/03/2023 22:31

So do I!

I thought he was calling her either “Mars” or “Moz”

Nailsandthesea · 27/03/2023 09:35

We all like it. The DIP references are cute - the boat etc
the characters are growing - his boss needs to get more involved and we need the personal lives of the other police officers as well
they need to get rid of Archie - kill him off and develop the other characters

BluIsTheColor · 27/03/2023 11:59

Another in favour of killing Archie, that whole story line is just cringe and not in a good way.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/03/2023 13:23

I like it

Easy Friday night chilling

And def 'motts' as I have subtitles

We're enjoying it.
Similar enough to feel familiar, but different enough to be interesting.

Subtitles can get confused though. We have them on, and once on the news it kept referring to Biggin Hill airfield as "Big Inhale" 😂

TeenDivided · 27/03/2023 14:31

Like news is subtitled differently from pre-recorded drama.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/03/2023 14:52

@BreakfastOfWaffles that's funny

But yes sometimes they do say weird things

What was the JP reference glitterblue? I missed it.

JP and his wife have a new baby!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/03/2023 22:44

So now they have 3. Didn't they have twins

Yes, with all the gang outside on the hospital veranda I seem to recall. Just the calm birthing environment Rosie wanted, I'm sure. Grin

They've called her "Mottie" sometimes too she's still Lucy to me.

I thought his plan for them to get the gold was a bit... rubbish really. And I am unconvinced it would have worked. I can't imagine that's how he chose the spot to bury it! So it was just luck it lined up with the word "heart" in his prison edition of Great Expectations? And if the friend didn't go to the children there was no contingency for them to get another clue.

(Surely they wouldn't get to keep the gold anyway?!)

purpleme12 · 28/03/2023 23:12

Ah doesn't matter about the plotholes! 🤣

BluIsTheColor · 28/03/2023 23:53

I kinda miss the DIP construct where you always had 4/5 suspects and you could at least guess which one was guilty even if you didn't always know why
I doubt anyone guessed the ending to last week's episode as it was so contrived.

MeinKraft · 31/03/2023 07:32

Doesn't the PC in this picture look like Kelby Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/03/2023 13:37

Tonight e5

Panic erupts as an arsonist targets 3 business's involving the 3 little pigs fable

Hope there’s not going to be a Humphrey affair.

cartagenagina · 31/03/2023 20:34

I’m just not bothered by the Humphrey and Martha relationship and would prefer it if that was more peripheral.

Just concentrate on the crimes and the police station characters who are good.

It is all a bit Doc Martin, but not as well written sadly.

Riverlee · 31/03/2023 20:59

Well that was cheerful!

I agree, it’s too soap-ey and less Death in Paradise. We watch this programme for light relief, not Eastenders doom and gloom.

2Rebecca · 31/03/2023 21:35

Agree I think the BBC haven't realised why DIP was so popular. People just want a feel good whodunnit with nice scenery and pleasant characters. Leave the angst and misery to the other programmes. I prefer them to be unattached and just flirt a bit. That's why Bond and Morse worked

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/03/2023 22:21

Tonight's was complex

But was good

Tho why would a fire fighter and teenage daughter have a 3 little pigs book in the kitchen 😂😂😂

OP posts:
Toddlerteaplease · 31/03/2023 22:26

I thought the daughter was mums partner. She looked to old to be her daughter!

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/03/2023 22:27

Tho hump and mots have to work it out

BreakfastOfWaffles · 01/04/2023 10:49

I found it a bit heavy going. I am beginning to dread the scenes that start with one of them sitting alone on the upper deck of the boat.
