Whoop. Finally starts next Friday - before death in paradise

Beyond Paradise will follow DI Humphrey Goodman solving murder mysteries in the UK

Beyond Paradise is a new Death in Paradise spin-off series revolving around DI Humphrey Goodman, starring Kris Marshall and Sally Bretton.

It's the first time that Death in Paradise has been given a spin-off show and fans are of course very excited! And now we finally know when it will start.

Kris Marshall was hugely popular during his time in the series as the bumbling but brilliant Humphrey.

Kris said: "I had the best time playing Humphrey out in Guadeloupe and whilst I was delighted that he got his happy ending with Martha, I always wanted to know what happened next.

"So it’s a joy to be putting his crumpled jacket back on and seeing how life has panned out for him back in the UK.

Working with Sally is a dream, and I can’t wait to continue Humphrey and Martha’s story and solve a few seemingly impossible mysteries along the way."

Setting up the series, Kris says: "We find Humphrey and Martha having just relocated from London down to Devon in the southwest of England and trying to find their way with their new life. Having moved in with his mother-in-law, there are certain challenges.

"Wherever he goes, he leaves a sort of mini tidal wave of madness behind him and he's causing that tidal wave to ripple through the village of Shipton Abbott."
Here's everything we know about Beyond Paradise...

Well, Martha left Saint Marie, leaving Humphrey devastated. But Humphrey then returned to London and declared he'd move to be with her. And that appeared to be the end of the story.

However, in Beyond Paradise we find the pair living together in Devon. Martha is now his fiancee and Humphrey is hoping for a quieter life. He has a new DI job, but surprise surprise his new hometown has a very high murder rate!

a new adventure awaits as we find them arriving in Shipton Abbott, Martha’s hometown near the beautiful Devonshire coast, having left London.

As they embark on their new life, the couple are quickly thrown in at the deep end as Martha sets out to pursue her dream of running her own restaurant and Humphrey joins the local police force.

"Quickly making an impression on the somewhat eclectic team; DS Esther Williams (Zahra Ahmadi), PC Kelby Hartford (Dylan Llewellyn) and Margo Martins (Felicity Montagu), Humphrey sets out to help crack a host of baffling cases, with the Shipton Abbott squad witnessing a whole new approach to police work…

"Each week the team will be faced with a new crime with a unique puzzle at its heart. The not-so-sleepy town of Shipton Abbott will be rocked by an entire family disappearing without a trace, a woman claiming she was attacked by a suspect from the seventeenth century, the robbery of a highly prized painting, a body bizarrely discovered in a crop circle and a serial arsonist with a seeming distaste for local businesses."

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/03/2023 18:22

Yes was missed last week

Wasn’t a dead body in a crop circle in midsommer murders?

LIZS · 24/03/2023 20:26

Yes, more than once iirc.

Riverlee · 24/03/2023 21:00

I thought that was a better episode tonight. However, don’t like the Martha/Archie/Humphrey storyline.

Glitterblue · 24/03/2023 22:54

I don't like Archie at all. I loved the JP reference!

Romeiswheretheheartis · 24/03/2023 23:03

There's a bit of a mismatch between the jaunty theme tune and the sombre IVF, and marriage-wrecking Archie, storylines, I feel. When the theme tune came on at the end tonight I felt like it should have followed a more light hearted ending, like the endings of DiP (i'm saying that as someone who has gone through ivf myself).

kazzaD66 · 24/03/2023 23:24

What was the JP reference glitterblue? I missed it.

BreakfastOfWaffles · 25/03/2023 04:09

I knew Humphrey was right to be suspicious and unfriendly towards Archie. What a snake.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/03/2023 06:31

Archie deserves to be slapped. Not sure her mum saw the slap though

I get why Martha has had enough of ivf. The constant failure or miscarriage is hard

Let's hope she gets preg naturally. Once the body has preg hormones if can kick start the body

I was confused about last night

How did the crop circles get there

The ufo was a drone - to look for the gold?

And the middle of heart where x marks the spot - unlikely clue

But nether the less easy Friday watching and only 2 left 🥲🥲

Was the ivf with Archie?Does Humph know about this? Was that the cause of the relationship breakdown?

Riverlee · 25/03/2023 07:50

I think the mum missed the slap.

whereeverilaymycat · 25/03/2023 07:50

The crop circles and the drone were done/used by the farmer and the car thief to encourage people to the farm and make money. Nothing to do with the gold. I think they referenced some kind of boards used to flatten the crops.

whereeverilaymycat · 25/03/2023 07:53

IVF was with Humphrey when they were in London if I've remembered right. I think the mum missed the slap too. I actually dislike her actively pushing Martha towards Archie more than Archie himself (and I don't like him much at all!) but then it was always a spectacularly bad idea to go into business with an ex.

Riverlee · 25/03/2023 11:19

If those only a couple of episodes left, I reckon it will end with a Humphrey/Martha cliffhanger. Either Humphrey will think she’s keen on Archie, or she will be pregnant, or Martha is thinking whether to leave Humphrey or not.

kazzaD66 · 24/03/2023 23:24

What was the JP reference glitterblue? I missed it.

Martha was upset because they'd heard JP has had another baby.

kazzaD66 · 25/03/2023 14:21

Thanks Rome

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/03/2023 15:50

Riverlee · 25/03/2023 07:50

I think the mum missed the slap.

I think she did as she turned to see him oh coming

So she wouidnt have seen 'mots' pushing him away and slapping him

So the red love heart car thief was in coots with the farmers son

I love the location shots but the police station set is so dull! It could be anywhere in the UK.

2Rebecca · 26/03/2023 16:02

Her not wanting children at the moment makes sense. She has just started a new business which is physically and emotionally draining and her husband also has a demanding job. Who was going to look after the baby? Trying for a baby and starting up a restaurant don't usually go together.
The starting a business with an ex who still obviously fancies you is stupid. Humphrey deserves better. The mother is just annoying. I hate it when they make older women annoying and intrusive. The mother should be getting on with her own life not being a bit part in her daughter's life.
I'd prefer more crime drama and less personal angst

GoldenCupidon · 26/03/2023 17:46

I enjoy the more sombre side stories, balanced out (?) by the fact that so far no one has actually been murdered at all.

I do think Martha’s mum has her own life, she always seems to be off out (and I think she got chips on the way back from…? Pilates?) but yes.

Starting a business with an ex that is single and interested is honestly not great behaviour. When are Martha and Humphrey getting married? They don’t seem to be organising anything.

I thought they could have solved the mystery in hour one when it turned out the farm - despite being perfectly ordinary - was open to the public/tourists. No wonder they needed to do the blooming crop circles, there isn’t much else to look at! I enjoyed the puzzle with the book though and the farmer actor was good.

purpleme12 · 26/03/2023 18:04

No I'm sure that the mum didn't see the slap and the mum now thinks they kissed.
Because they made her look away at the moment she needed to look, like what always happens in programmes!

The farmer actor was in Poldark, I really like him too. He has a kind face.

I'm sure if Martha dumps Humphrey someone will cheer him up me

Whatsnewpussyhat · 26/03/2023 22:18

Still no actual bloody murders.

Hate Archie calling her 'mots' and the mother hating Humphrey enough to want Martha to riun her marriage with an affair.

It's taken the USP of DIP, chucked in in the bin and set fire to it. What a waste.
