Anyone else watching clarkson farm season 2? I’m binge watching it!

Don’t read if you are watching one episode at a time. I’m binge watching and loving it. The bloody councillors should be struck off the way they are treating him and through him the other local farmers.

And it did have toilets. I thought you watched it?

That you have to go on a quad bike to get to...

I was replying to both as you can't quote two posts.
We have a difference of opinion, I don't agree 🤷‍♀️ but glad you enjoyed watching it. I will probably give the first a rewatch at some point.

So you're ignoring my question about why the restaurant helping local farmers would be a bad thing? What a surprise.

That doesn't equate to no toilets does it? And let's face it that won't be the reality.More likely the trailer continuously going up and down. nevertheless, the toilets exist.

I know clarkson is contentious and living near the shop must be a nightmare, changing a nice rural village to a car park (well not as it turns out). But he accepts that and wants to make it better for the village.

however, I don’t understand why he didn’t get planning. Dark sky lights exist, make him use them. Put stipulations on opening hours so all the lights are off by 9/10. There were ways around all of it, it didn’t need to be an out and out no. Look at the farms it would have supported.

I cried laughing at the chillis in the restaurant with everyone coughing Grin

Especially the “sterilised jars” whilst everyone coughed

Im not interested in the politics of his (abhorrent) column. He has done more to raise public awareness of countryside issues in one series than any other program has managed.

It's an interesting perspective. From a smallholder's pov he is someone we would usually have dismissed him as one of the elitist rich have a go farmers with the expensive equipment and creaming all of the subsidiaries, whilst us little people are still fiddling about trying to make do with a 60 year old chain harrow held together with bailing twine. His struggles are the same as my family's with council, local residents, APHA and supermarkets all working against you. Throw right to roamer vegan crop destroyers with loose livestock chasing dogs in the mix and you've got it.

Exactly

Yeah, this is racism & misogyny in action. Old white not very talented bigoted man gets lots of air time, racism gets ignored, poster says how amazing his series is. It's intended as a f--k you to any of us who care about either.

I was watching the episode re. the meeting Jeremy organised and it inspired me to watch a couple of episodes of This Country. Then I couldn't help thinking that the Village Hall was packed with Kerry, Kurtain, Mandy, Len and Arthur with the poor Vicar trying to keep the peace!
Actually a Clarkson's Farm/ This Country mash up would be much fun to watch.

The comment about “you don’t need an income” was an interesting one.

a) he’s supporting many other local farmers and providing jobs for them.
b) someone needs to make a going concern of the farm, if not clarkson than who? Luckily clarkson has cash to invest. Most farmers (especially when they take on a farm) don’t have the cash to invest.

@VegetablesFightingToReclaimTheAubergieneEmoji I've not got to that yet but if that was a council member saying that, I'm not sure it's in their remit to decide how much money someone can make. Just to apply the planning laws.

I'm looking forward to watching that.

I'm not sure it was a council member. He held a q&a so that could have been anyone.

In the planning meeting it was clear their personal opinions were taken into account above actual planning conditions.

And let's face it, they vote, and it's not questioned why they've voted that way. They don't have to justify why they've declined it. They can, and clearly did, decline it because they didn't personally like him or his ideas. Not because they gave a shit about the local area, other farmers, the economy.

@RedToothBrush please get off your soap box. Farming has existed for thousands of years and we don't need Clarkson to 'save' farming. I'm not going to line that man's pockets for any reason.

This. Clarkson is a twat of the highest order.

It was in the village hall meeting so it wasn’t filmed inside, I think it was someone from the village who said it, not the council.

interesting view point to have saying how much money is enough - I am not strictly against it in some cases I think.

I’ve rarely seen a council actually give wait to locals views over economic benefit. Most times they rail road projects regardless of locals views and common sense.

It's interesting. You could argue that these days you need money to be able to afford to run a successful farm. Investing in 'branching out' isn't going to be easy if you have no funds. I'm not sure how to balance that one.

Kaleb runs the farm. Jeremy helps him. That's pretty obvious in this series in a number of scenes. Clarkson doesn't shy away from this nor hide in. (scene at the farmers awards highlights this).

Jeremy makes the decisions and the others enable it. Many of them are obviously doomed to fail, but that's part of the point about the need to have skills and the fact that you can't just rock up and farm the land if you aren't educated in how to run a farm. If you loss the Kaleb's because they've gone bankrupt, then what? You have a bunch of rich city folk come to the country to 'have a go for themselves'?

It kinda makes the point that it's a lifestyle that comes through generations and those communities need support so you don't get idiots from the city (like Clarkson) try and do it themselves.

There's a farmer down the road from us, who we've financially tried to support for years because he's been innovative. He's doing really well now, but he couldn't have started up without locals seeing it was about more than just the food they bought from him. Clarkson is part of the same thing.

Oh and the local farm has a restuarant. Its available to hire for weddings. It does tours around it. It engages with groups like scouts. Its got a car park too.

Its a bit 'Disneyland'y I guess.

Clarkson has owned the farm for 20 odd years I think. He took it over for the first series when his long term farm manager retired. He admitted he knew nothing and relied heavily on the farming foetus. Who is really a genius.
The show has shown many people the realities of farming and the hardship most now face. The people fighting him are probably the ones who moved to the countryside for the peace and quiet. And then complain about cows mooing and tractors on the roads.

No i wouldn't find that like a Jeremy Clarkson Disneyland, as I've said, we own a farm, diversification is important, this series didn't vibe with me because I couldn't resonate with it, because it all built around people turning up to meet Jeremy, buy the one sprout and the t-shirt etc. To me it felt like meeting mickey, others clearly don't agree.
If other people liked it, good for them, if they felt it helped them learn farming stuff also great. I didn't vibe with it and it doesn't mean I think everyone who does tours or carparks is a bit Disneyland.

So basically you just don't like him, anyone else could do it and it would be fine, but because it's him, it's not.

@Ptea I think the £20 sprout was a way to get rid of the stock. And to be funny and make a point about the ludicrous pettiness of the way the council were treating him about the car park.
People would also have bought the potatoes, the milk & milkshakes (from the TB infected farm), the honey, the lamb and pork (from his neighbours) and the other veggies they sell from local farms. It's a farm shop that lots visit because it's on tv. But it's benefiting lots of local people, not just Clarkson.
