If you think the series is good, and the subject is worthwhile, watch it.
Clarkson is an arse. A knowing arse. But he tackles this subject in an exceptional way.
It needs to continue because its such an important topic and it needs attention. No one else is going to touch it, or be as passionate about farming in a way thats unavoidably going to attract the attention farming so desparately needs.
If you put the personality before the really important topic here, then we are going to end up in an even bigger mess as a country.
The Channel 4 programme last year which shredded artwork raised the question of purity and whether we should cancel everything someone does because of their beliefs. The conclusion was really that exceptional cases existed where the art / message was so important it was necessary to continue to allow the art to exist. Thats not to condone the behaviour or to turn a blind eye to it - its to recognise where good HAS been done and to stress why its important and must be allowed to stand.
Clarkson's Farm isn't about Clarkson ultimately. Its about the state of farming and how local and national government as either deliberately or unwittingly driving it into the ground which will leave us with massive food insecurity, land that isn't looked after and maintained and leaves whole communities without any work for locals. If you can't see that, you are as tone deaf as Clarkson is to criticism of his arrogance. Its aggrogantly putting your purity before a subject that desparately needs to be heard about and pressure placed on fuckwits from towns and cities who probably haven't been with 20 feet of a cow in years, if ever, unless its on a plate in a posh restuarant (one of course in a nice street near their home, not on Clarkson's land).
People are only seeing Clarkson and certainly a number of the locals are going for him because they don't like him rather than because he's trying, for once, to do something really worthwhile.
Given he's clearly willing to pour his own personal money at this - with it being quite obvious theres a fair chance he'll never break even but it might help the local area, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for the show.
Having watched 7 episodes now, the message about tone deaf people who think they know everything without actually listening or having a clue what they are talking about, is the theme of the series. It is the very definition of ignorance.
People should listen to what he has to say and THEN pass judgement. If you still don't think the show is worthwhile, then fair enough, pan it and leave a shit rating.
