you can practically see him at the little boy he was in that very end scene in the kitchen
Yes and despite all the evil things he did your heart breaks for that little boy. It takes an incredible actor to pull that off. The only comparison I can think of is Thomas Atkinson in Emmerdale who could make you feel sorry for Lucky despite his psychopathic ways.

Yes, that final scene was brilliant. From Catherine asking him if he needed an ambulance instead of flooring him to the whole thing about the photo album.

Lots of unanswered questions and doors left open for a prequel involving Becky and Tommy but I hope they don't. They never work and Catherine, Clare and Tommy (and Nev and Neil probably deserve an honorary mention) are just perfection. Flawed but perfect.

Emotionalsupportviper · 22/02/2023 16:50

I wish they had a different actor to play him (TLR) as I felt really sorry for him probably because of his looks.

BUT THAT ISTHE POINT!

"Would you think the same about him if he hadn't been pretty?"

That is exactly the point . . .

sweatervest · 22/02/2023 20:20

there's a comedian called matt rife who looks like tlr's younger and better looking cousin. if such thing is possible

not the photos of him, but when he's doing stand up he totally reminds me of james norton

louise5754 · 22/02/2023 20:25

@Emotionalsupportviper

As in that's why they cast him?

LadyEloise1 · 22/02/2023 21:28

@sweatervest I can see where you're coming from.Smile

He's beautiful. Reminds me more of Cillian Murphy though!

CuriousMama · 22/02/2023 21:47

Just looked Matt Rife up. He is more Cillian to me. And used to be with Kate Beckinsdale.

That and he's a good actor. I doubt they's have picked him fr his looks alone (unlike us, shallow lot that we are), but they would be looking to cast a good-looking talented man for the role.

purpledalmation · 24/02/2023 21:46

Did anyone notice at the beginning of series 3 TLR with his long dark hair and beard and the hideous stitches, looked like Jesus with the stitches looking like a crown of thorns?

Ignore if already noted, it's taken me ages to get through the episodes!

Yeah I posted about that

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/02/2023 05:41

I said before it just goes to prove what a great actor James is

That after all he has done , the beatings, the ratings, the murders - that we all hated him for what and who he was

But in that kitchen we the viewers felt sorry for him. A lot little boy

He has no love given to him

He saw that his son was well loved and cared for

And was a case of nurture v nature

And nurture won

Whilst I agree with most of what you've said @Blondeshavemorefun, he was also half of Becky & therefore has Catherine & Claire et al in his DNA too, so even his nature isn't all bad. He's not 100% TLR by nature at all.

HelloMist · 03/03/2023 15:05

The writer of HV, Sally Wainwright, has done an interview this week on the radio - you can listen on yesterday's (2nd March) podcast Off Air with Jane and Fi. It starts about 17 min if you want to jump past the chat. worth a listen.

She might be on another Times Radio show tomorrow, will update if anyone's interested. (Unless it's a replay of the above).

Hels20 · 03/03/2023 17:38

@HelloMist - does she talk about the characters in HV? Does she talk about TLR and her take on him?

HelloMist · 03/03/2023 18:15

@Hels20 not in depth, no, but it was about plot/finale decisions (SL having a view on it - actors knowing their characters best having had to learn all the lines and immerse themselves in them). Also that the BBC were undecided at first whether to put all the episodes up for streaming in one go or not. Found out Sally used to be a bus driver!

MeinKraft · 10/03/2023 23:28

Just watching Graham Norton and James is giving me strong Kevin from Motherland vibes Grin bless him

I am shook at such a scandalous accusation! There is no one less arousing in the world than Kevin from Motherland (much as I love his character).

and now I'm going to have to watch his GN appearance and see if there's any truth to it. Grin

MeinKraft · 10/03/2023 23:42

@MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake enjoy!! It's a great episode...Jamie Dornan is on too and Siobhan McSweeney and they're always great value

CuriousMama · 11/03/2023 00:11

I've ruined series 3 for ds2. We were in the pub and me and a couple of blokes were discussing it. One bloke started going on about how rubbish the burning scene was. Ds2 hasn't seen series 3 yet 🙈 He heard it all.
He said it's ok though. To be fair I'm amazed he hasn't read it seen anything about the ending?

Ok I need to watch this now. Jamie Dorian's previous appearances on GN were just fab. He is a thing of beauty but also very funny and a comes across as a thoroughly lovely human too.

Her series from 2006 called Jane Hall (with Sarah Smart) was based on her experience as a bus driver. I can't see it streaming anywhere.

MeinKraft · 11/03/2023 14:38

@dangermousesfriend yeah he's lovely, he comes across as so funny and down to earth. He and JN both looked gorgeous and natural, not a hint of Botox to be seen on either of them.

Jane Hall is on YouTube or you can get the DVD cheap on ebay.
