Is it weird to say no game spoilers? I've not played the game so don't know the game story line

Who else is watching?

The 1st 2 episodes were really good

But wow. Ep 3 is amazing.

I actually cried over characters I'd known for less than 1 hour

It says spoilers, but there's nothing other than episode 6.

caramac04 · 22/02/2023 08:28

I watch this with my son who has played the game and we are both really enjoying it.

I binge watched The Walking Dead and this is filling the hole that has left.
I am not a fan of zombie films but as pp said, this is so much more than zombies as was TWD. I live and learn.

user1471561661 · 25/02/2023 08:53

I feel like there is something wrong with me as I am not enjoying this quite as much as everyone else seems to be. I liked the scenes in the cabin with the couple, I wasn't clear why they were not part of the commune unless they were in some sort of spy capacity or something and that's how the commune knew to meet e&j - Tommy explained it but I didn't really catch what he said. My son thought the commune was like winter wonderland in Hyde park!

CampervanKween · 25/02/2023 09:00

I'm with you. It's OK. I did think the 3rd episode was nice, but also felt like they wasted a really interesting character as in the game I've been told it's very different. Frank doesn't die. The relationship isn't as loving. I'd have liked to have seen more of Frank again.

Later episodes haven't really grabbed me.
I feel like people nowadays get swept up in the hype for something. Like a mass experience. That's part of the enjoyment.

What couple? The Native Americans? They were miles away from the commune and they didn’t know it existed. They warned Joel and Ellie not to go that way because Maria and the other commune members leave out the bodies of trespassers they have killed to keep people away. The existence of the commune is a closely-guarded secret, which is why Tommy stopped responding to Joel’s radio communications.

Figgygal · 25/02/2023 09:26

Having suffered through the walking dead to the end maybe this has come off the back of that too quickly for me because I'm just a bit underwhelmed by it.

I'm here for pedro pascal and because my husband is actually watching it too but not feeling it

Your source on the game is mistaken! Frank does not appear as a speaking character in the game. In the game, Bill accompanies Joel and Ellie as they move around the town, scavenging the parts to make the car battery. Whilst on this mission they find Frank’s hanging body and a suicide note, which makes it clear that he hanged himself after being bitten. The relationship between B & F is only conveyed through heavy implications. Joel and Ellie leave Bill in his town and he isn’t seen again.

I think you’ve missed half of the plot of the episode! PP has already explained the elderly couple in the cabin.

Maria and her team didn’t come out to ‘meet’ Ellie and Joel. They patrol the area to protect their secrecy and security and were fully prepared to kill E & J if they were infected or otherwise up to no good. The scene cut after Joel said he was looking for his brother, but the implication is that Tommy’s name was the magic word that got them in to the commune. They would have been killed or sent away otherwise.

It was interesting that the FEDRA device picked up Ellie's infection but the dog did not. I wonder if this is due to the time that has passed, or if the dog picks up something different to the scanner.

Abra1t · 25/02/2023 10:56

Perhaps the dog can tell if the infection is still live? Ellie’s seems to be dormant or contained by whatever immune response she has.

user1471561661 · 25/02/2023 13:24

Figgygal I think I preferred the walking deadBlush

Ok thanks mother and yippee. Thinking about it Joel and Ellie did have an overnight stop on the way from the old couples cabin to the commune so I guess it was further than I had realised. I missed that Joel gave Tommy's name to the group.

CampervanKween · 25/02/2023 20:42

Sorry I think I probably meant Bill? The character played by Ron Swanson (my all time favourite character in a series ever 😁) What a set up he had.

CampervanKween · 25/02/2023 20:43

And yy very much mainly here for Pedro.

LadyLyndon · 25/02/2023 21:40

Have you seen Pedro on Saturday Night Live? He is adorable! He is from Chill-ayy.

CampervanKween · 25/02/2023 23:31

He was very cute in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent so I sought him out in other things. Ended up watching some random indie sci fi film the other night just because he was in it 😆

JizzlordTheCat · 27/02/2023 21:30

Watched episode 7 today.

It’s so incredibly slow. Two more episodes left and, unless there’s a massive improvement in pace and plot, I won’t be holding my breath for series 2.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 27/02/2023 22:52

Yes it was a very slow episode which very much dragged the mall scenes out. Oddly, I still enjoyed it. It does seem to be more about what it's like to live in the post apocalyptic landscape than it is Zombie Attack and I kind of respect that because the former has been done.

I remain a Jumpy As Fuck Person so I turned around when I sensed time was running out and the zombie would need to attack.

I wish I wasn't so jumpy

LadyLyndon · 27/02/2023 22:58

I found it very tense with a great backstory.

HollyGolightly4 · 27/02/2023 23:01

I thought it was purposefully slow and poignantly sad. Great episode. I love seeing life (or more specifically people) in post-apocalyptic America. I love that it isn't just the mushroom people taking over!

Botw1 · 27/02/2023 23:03

I absolutely shat my self at the first jump scare

I don't find it that slow?

It's very tense though

I think it's the tensest episode so far 🤣

IClaudine · 27/02/2023 23:08

I loved it. The tension worked on two levels for me- whether Ellie would reveal her feelings and the inevitable attack.

I thought the writing and actors' performances invoked the pain of youthful romantic yearning brilliantly. I found it really moving.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 27/02/2023 23:10

I actually loved the stuff like the childlike joy at an escalator something that is too normal to even register with any age child

Botw1 · 27/02/2023 23:16

I was a bit distracted by trying to remember how old Ellie is supposed to be.

But it was very well acted and beautifully shot as usual. The long draw back scene to the inevitable infected

God that was tedious ! Finding it very patchy in terms of successful episodes. I had been looking forward to Monday night but this is beginning to be a overall failure.
