Doesn’t the on the beach advert make you want to scream with the entitled family and how horrid it is?

OP posts:
PortiasBiscuit · 06/02/2023 06:16

I think they’re meant to be an ordinary family, enjoying a bit of luxury without having spent a fortune.
Really no need for this much vitriol.

@IncompleteSenten

she throws of a flip flop that hits some one?
he rams his phone at you to see
the boy is rude to his sister

and so on…

maybe you think that’s ok.

what a shame

@BitOutOfPractice

the rudeness the advert shows is horrid.
unless you think throwing a flip flop off and hitting some one is normal?

BitOutOfPractice · 07/02/2023 08:49

don’t be obtuse. You know what snobbery I’m talking about, sneering and judging. I’m not keen on the ad. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to fat shame a kid or sneer at people’s decor or career choices. Just nasty.

Lordofthebutterfloofs · 07/02/2023 08:55

Goodness sometimes people on mumsnet are weird.

It's just some daft conversation about a fictional family in a 30 second advert.

Unwitty comedy using stereotypes for a bit of lighthearted fun. Film, TV and comedians do it all the time.

If it makes anyone feel any better, I'm so broke I couldn't afford to buy a holiday from on the beach even if I wanted to, my house is furnished like student digs and I'm fatter than any of the people in the advert.

Get a sense of humor people!

"Maybe you think that's ok. What a shame."

🤣🤣 god I could just about hear the tone of voice there.

I think they're hardly the crimes of the century. It's an advert not a real family. And there's a distinct whiff of snobbery in the shocked gasps and declarations of how gross and off-putting it all is.

Condescend to me some more please. I need a good laugh.

Justellingthetruth · 09/02/2023 07:26

@BitOutOfPractice

i never mentioned the people's use you did.
I wasn't even thinking that

its the behaviours in the advert which are unappealing

please don't accuse people of thinned they haven't done.

OP posts:
Justellingthetruth · 09/02/2023 07:29

@IncompleteSenten

yesh I think the behaviour role modelled on the advert is horrid and selfish

so anyone who thinks it's ok and not an issue I basically think define themselves as aligning with it as self important and selfish

if the cap fits wear it. Seems you did?

Is there more than one advert? The only eating I could see is the ice cream and no mobile phones at all?

BillLius · 09/02/2023 07:40

Don'tcallthepolice · 19/01/2023 22:12

I think it generates an idea of no frills, no pretence just get out and enjoy yourself. It also gets us all talking!

And no manners.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 09/02/2023 13:05

The mum doesn't deliberately hit the man with her flip flop either.

PoseyFlump · 09/02/2023 19:36

This thread is funnier than the advert 🤣

wonderstuff · 09/02/2023 19:39

Makes me not want to go on holiday with On The Beach tbh, doesn’t look fun. I don’t really understand what they’re trying to say, I like all the other holiday adds on at the moment, I’ve got zero desire to go on a cruise, but the Cunard advert is fabulous.

Mookie81 · 09/02/2023 19:58

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/02/2023 17:48

What about the advert where the very stern woman tells you to leave your work emails alone in order to stay "much less dead for much much longer" ?

I like that one.

I hate the OTB one, it uses a damn Xmas song!

Justellingthetruth · 10/02/2023 19:38

@Iwantmyoldnameback

well she kicks her flip flop off show no regard for others so its selfish and self cantered.

why could she be an adult and take them off!

or are manners a bad thing?

OP posts:
Justellingthetruth · 10/02/2023 19:40

@PortiasBiscuit

its not vitriol

it's that that behaviour that the advert shows shows no manners.

if that's ordinary should we not rethink ordinary?

OP posts:
thetwotattoos · 10/02/2023 21:37

See, I thought the flip flop missed the bloke's head as he ducked to the side a bit. I'm ashamed to say it makes me smirk as he is obviously too cool for school (or the pool!) so doesn't shout "oi, watch it!" like most people would. Not that flip flop flinging should be tolerated or dive bombing in the pool, wasting ice-cream or over-eating at buffets.

PoseyFlump · 11/02/2023 06:50

over-eating at buffets.

I saw the advert last night and rewound it a few times. The kid has one cake on his plate. In fact, the whole advert was not half as bad as this thread says it is!

FenghuangHoyan · 11/02/2023 06:56

Only on Mumsnet would posting about such an obviously shit advert result in the OP getting grief. Back off people. The advert is garbage and there OP saying that doesn't make her a horrid person.

PoseyFlump · 11/02/2023 06:58

Drama Llama

thetwotattoos · 11/02/2023 18:28

@PoseyFlump

over-eating at buffets

I was trying to be funny! There's been a few comments about the boy/family being overweight, eating too much etc by PP. I think they're a bit of a caricature family having a good time.

PoseyFlump · 11/02/2023 19:46

Fair enough @thetwotattoos I think you're right. It's a caricature. I read some of the comments on this thread aloud to my DP and he couldn't believe how harsh they were. Especially the B&M decor ones.

Richieb1960 · 27/02/2023 20:57

I think that it’s all wrong were the women in the on the beach advert is very wrong when she kicks her flip flops off and hits the person in the face with it and then just jumps in the pool i think it should be taken out of the advert

PoseyFlump · 27/02/2023 21:03

Mary Whitehouse has turned up.
