That bloody Virgin advert

Is anyone else sick and tired of that bloody Virgin Atlantic advert ? It's not the content that annoys me it's just on all the time !

I get really irritated by this advert. Its all about celebrating equality and diversity; but seems to miss out disabled people. It is utterly grim flying as a wheelchair user

My friend has a severe disability and hasn't flown for years because he says it's a nightmare now and that years ago they used to let him sit by the emergency exit and he had lots of room.

UseOfWeapons · 30/01/2023 14:25

🤮advert is so utterly grim and fake, makes me want to hurl things at the TV

ChocChipOwl · 30/01/2023 14:32

@bluelavender no no. It shoehorns in a man in a wheelchair as well - of course he's some sort of Olympic athlete looking man. Going very fast. With a beard

There are two versions of this ad you see.

Great!

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 30/01/2023 14:48

I hate the singing in it. HATE it. It sounds like Glynis Johns's bleaty singing voice slowed down and dropped an octave. Horrific.

ThighMistress · 30/01/2023 15:22

@RichardHeed the point is not that they’re a punk or whatever - who cares - but that they’re pulling a scary face . Why not have them smiling to show that they’re not a psycho?

Pretty much. Even after the mouth-pulling, the grin wasn't particularly friendly.

Maybe I'm too invested 😅😅

There’s a Virgin trans woman pilot on TikTok. I was surprised that she’s not on the advert.

I think the pilot in the ad is meant to be a trans woman .

2023username · 01/02/2023 14:12

The irony is that Virgin isn’t even that committed to these principles anyway

It just feels so unbearably smug - especially that woman passenger towards the end. I hate that I feel this 😖.

Iwishmynamewassheilah · 04/02/2023 08:55

I think the face puller is Mel C?

ThreeKneeRepeater · 04/02/2023 08:57

It’s interesting that you say that Doingtheboxer beat.
I love that shot of the woman looking so utterly content, as if she’s on her way to or from seeing someone special. I don’t see it as smug at all.
The rest of the ad is meh…

Doingtheboxerbeat · 05/02/2023 11:07

@ThreeKneeRepeater I'm probably projecting, as most of my flying is with Ryanair and I could only wish to fly with such sophisticated fellow passengers and crew 🤭.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 05/02/2023 11:16

Whats the point of the girl who stumbles on the travalator? I dont get that bit. It's a really annoying advert all round

ThreeKneeRepeater · 05/02/2023 16:31

I suppose the girl on the travelator is so busy making eyes at the guy she passes that she misses the end, stumbles off and is embarrassed. I’d like to think the two of them would be a great match if they ever got together, as they both look a bit quirky, but I’m not sure what it has to do with flying Virgin.

Lollyloup91 · 05/02/2023 16:31

It's weird! Like I don't get the 2 weird looking people staring at each other, what is it supposed to be arty? It's odd

I was thinking this the other day. I hate it.

Mollypolly2610 · 23/07/2023 17:30

The VERY smug face of the pilot!

VQ1970 · 23/07/2023 21:27

That advert was back in the day when Virgin Atlantic was still cool. When my husband and I first started travelling to the USA, we always chose to fly Virgin and it was exciting. You got amazing goody bags on board, little cards to tell you what was on the menu, the crew had gorgeous uniforms and it was just all so exciting.

We continued to use them but saw standards slipping. We couldn't travel for a few years but I flew with Virgin again earlier this year and am now able to afford Upper Class - I couldn't wait! It was something we'd dreamed of and always said one day.... But it was just so disappointing. The separate check in and security were great and the clubhouse is amazing but they've taken away the spa area and given it over to Pelaton - who the fuck wants to do a work out before you get on a flight?? A little massage or hair blow dry, pedicure or manicure would have been lovely before getting on a flight. They used to offer treatments on flights as well but that's also stopped. And they've taken away the bar.

The individual space in UC was ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, it's a lot better than economy but it's certainly not what it used to look like in the brochures. I travelled Business Class on BA last year and it was way better than Virgin.

The crew no longer seem as glamorous as they used to be and I know that in this day and age, they shouldn't need to be and don't need to be but it was all part of the glamour of travelling on Virgin.

I've got another UC flight with Virgin booked for next month, it was booked before I flew with them in April and was still excited about flying UC but next year I'll be looking at BA again. I will use Virgin again in the future but only to use up my points.

Ah yes, the good old days when there was absolutely no diversity in adverts, companies could dictate women's footwear and promote general ogling. When we could admire twattish businessmen in their important suits. How dare women shave their head! Let's wind back the clock I say.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 24/07/2023 10:43

I used to think Virgin was quite an upmarket airline, but watching this ad it just makes me think they have appalling rude customers and completely self absorbed, self obsessed staff. Makes me actively want to avoid!

BadMotorhomeParent · 25/07/2023 00:14

Isn't the face-puller Sporty Spice?
(Not that that males it right)
Who is the older lady looking off into the distance, does anyone know?

I do always sing along with it, even though I dislike it.
There are far worse adverts in my opinion, although they are not also sending some message or other.

The BIg Spender Sainsbury's one is awful, for starters.

BadMotorhomeParent · 25/07/2023 00:18

I didn't realise the pilot is (meant to be?) trans.

I thought they were a real woman.

Ladybrrrd · 25/07/2023 00:52

.

I don't think they are, there's no information about the pilot anywhere online - presumably because they used real employees. It's just something someone pulled out of their arse as an excuse to froth about trans people. They might be, but on balance probably not. But if they were it's no bad thing.

Anyway as a ginger and sometimes punk, I'm glad to see myself represented. You can't stop punk 🤘
