Drama starring Joanna Scanlan, Iwan Rheon and Alexandra Roach, about a woman still grieving for her daughter who disappeared 18 years earlier.

Sharon Roberts (Scanlan) has spent nearly two decades searching for her daughter Ela's (Ella Peel) body. Shortly after she vanished, mild-mannered gardener Joe Thomas (Rheon) was arrested and charged with her murder after Ela's DNA was discovered in his caravan.

Joe confessed to her murder but refused - or could not explain what - he did with the body. Now Joe is being considered for parole, and if he is released, Sharon's greatest fear may be realized: she will never get Ela's body back and the past will torment her for the rest of her life.

Journalist Cat Donato (Roach), who's originally from the same town, has always been interested in Ela's murder. It's a very personal story for Cat, who has always kept an eye on the story, and the news that Joe is due for parole prompts her to return home to write an in-depth article and discover the truth one and for all.

But will she be welcomed back to the town where she grew up? Meanwhile, Sharon is also desperate for answers - and she'll go to any lengths to get them...

it's weird the journo is happy spending so much alone time with him. Like no way would I be in a car with a murderer! And the cigarette fire was predictable I think - when Sharon started dancing with the ciggie I was like 'I could write this'

I think some of you are a but mean about the actress who plays the journalist. Either that or I'm missing something. 🤷‍♀️

So I assume Shelley is implying that Wyn abused her as a child? Which would give him a motive for getting her out of the way. We know Ela and Shelley look similar, so did Wyn kill Ela mistaking her for Shelley? And then somehow convinced/bullied Joe into thinking he was responsible?

Cat surely suspected from the beginning near enough that Joe might not be the murderer, but I did think it was a bit of a leap of faith that she went 'all in' on trusting him like that.

Ooh, after a slow start it does seem to be improving. I do love a Welsh crime drama. And several of the actors are certainly familiar
I don't mind the characters but do find Ela and Greta's mother particularly annoying.
And their father is punching!

I feel a bit sorry for the step-mum actually, although it was indiscreet of her to talk to Cat. The husband doesn't seem to even like her very much and Greta is a spoilt brat running back and forth between mummy and daddy- she must be at least 30. I also can't believe she held onto the diary for all these years - as a child she wouldn't have fully realised its importance but as an adult surely you'd tell someone. On one hand she's complaining that her mother's obsession with her sister's murder ruined her life (which is a fair point) but on the other she's withholding evidence which could help resolve things And when are we going to find out what's in the bloody thing?
