Drama starring Joanna Scanlan, Iwan Rheon and Alexandra Roach, about a woman still grieving for her daughter who disappeared 18 years earlier.

Sharon Roberts (Scanlan) has spent nearly two decades searching for her daughter Ela's (Ella Peel) body. Shortly after she vanished, mild-mannered gardener Joe Thomas (Rheon) was arrested and charged with her murder after Ela's DNA was discovered in his caravan.

Joe confessed to her murder but refused - or could not explain what - he did with the body. Now Joe is being considered for parole, and if he is released, Sharon's greatest fear may be realized: she will never get Ela's body back and the past will torment her for the rest of her life.

Journalist Cat Donato (Roach), who's originally from the same town, has always been interested in Ela's murder. It's a very personal story for Cat, who has always kept an eye on the story, and the news that Joe is due for parole prompts her to return home to write an in-depth article and discover the truth one and for all.

But will she be welcomed back to the town where she grew up? Meanwhile, Sharon is also desperate for answers - and she'll go to any lengths to get them...

Just watched the first episode, it’s dreadfully slow, no tension, wooden, wtf did I just waste an hour of my life on?! I don’t care about any of these characters 😂

I don’t think much of the Welsh probation service if a journalist and a random bloke from the sawmill can find out a parolee’s address less than 24 hours after his release . Dai doesn’t seem to be the sharpest tool in the box either not to have realised that Sharon would go and harass Joe as soon as he told her where he was 😬

Brilliant I'll pick up on your comments and not reveal anymore. Very frustrating that everyone has red hair though, I spent ages working out who was who - either that or a middle aged grey haired man of few words! Needed a spreadsheet 😀

I have watched it all, but no spoilers! I will say, that I think the journalists acting is dire, either that or the script! Honestly who would tell her anything?
The actor playing Joe was so familiar, but couldn’t place him, but of course it was Game of thrones.

@Zog14 He was also in Misfits years ago, and Pobol y Cwm (like every other Welsh actor )

Agree - I turned to dh and was like omg she's a crap actress. Really jarring as I felt the others were quite good.

When the journalist and her editor/ lover came on scream I actually turned to my DH and said "Not those two - it's obviously going to be rubbish then". She's particularly bad.

I think the actors playing Sharon and her surviving daughter are fantastic. I really bought into them.

I still don’t think he killed her

Maybe he genuinely believes that he did, hence the guilty plea and gaps in his memory. Still no explanation as to why Cat doesn’t remember Shelley 🤷‍♀️

I thought I'd join in and watch from now, cos although I've seen the Welsh version. I can't remember exactly what happened. That was some pounding Joe took, that he was able to limp away into the night unaided!
