Sublime. From beginning to end. Absolutely sublime. Joyous.

I've seen the trailers and seen the Instas, and I'm afraid you couldn't pay me to watch it.

I love the way that those who did and hated it are being accused of 'not getting it'. It is possible not to like this kind of tweed sentimental stuff even if you do get what the writer intends. Tastes can still differ.

Yep, this. I got it, but I found it twee.

Prescottdanni123 · 25/12/2022 13:49

I think if they were to expand on it and make a proper story out of it, with the quotes/messages it would be amazing.

Stellaris22 · 25/12/2022 13:50

Honestly? Next time MN quotes 'be kind = women shut up' I'll point them to this thread

Rowthe · 25/12/2022 15:23

jamoncrumpets · 25/12/2022 13:18

Oh I got it. I just thought it was shite.

😂

Figgypudding123 · 25/12/2022 16:54

Bloody hell, it needs some kind of viewer warning. DS totally bored by it but I spent 20 mins sobbing my eyes out...

ThanksItHasPockets · 25/12/2022 17:14

Despite my innate cynicism I have always tried not to sneer at the book, because several people I really love and respect have told me that it has helped them in difficult times. I therefore watched it with an open mind but my God, what a lot of trite nonsense. I ‘got’ it and I really, really disliked it.

lipstickwoman · 25/12/2022 17:15

Watched it with an open mind. Utter rubbish.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 25/12/2022 17:18

Sub-sixth-form philosophy with all the depth of a puddle.

Very pretty, though.

zurala · 25/12/2022 17:29

I really wanted to like it because I'm friends with the author's cousin and I like to support, but...I thought it was twee and rather meh.

Oblomov22 · 25/12/2022 17:35

Want to watch this.

pompomdaisy · 25/12/2022 18:05

Nah didn't get it!

Borgonzola · 25/12/2022 18:06

Awfully mawkish, I thought. At first it seemed quite nice and then realised there was no plot, it was just motivational quotes sewn together.

Very nicely animated.

Per a PP all I could think was 'where's his coat'

MeanderingGently · 25/12/2022 18:22

OMG, some of the comments on here!

I found it absolutely bloody wonderful, I couldn't rate it any higher, it brought tears to my eyes and the illustrations were beautiful..... Loved the pictures of the boy, adorable child and adorable animals. Thought the sentiments of love, friendship, loyalty, the true meaning of 'home' all very deep and meaningful, and very poignant.....

Much better than the fucking Snowman, which I think is awful and stupid; always did, right from when it was first written/made into a film. (Although I like the tune of 'Walking in the air'). Now I never have to watch the Snowman again, and have an alternative....

Oblomov22 · 25/12/2022 18:31

I didn't like it at all. Dh asked if it was the latest MH offering. He's lost. Mole says we'll start tomorrow. FFS what a stupid suggestion. For a boy to stay out overnight. Where's the police, the people worried he's missing. I thought it was poor. The whole production, the sentiment, the whole idea. Everything. Sorry.

jamoncrumpets · 25/12/2022 18:33

I love how people think the metaphorical aspect was lost on the detractors when actually that's pretty much all the thing I have the issue with.

Iamsashafierce2 · 25/12/2022 18:36

I loved it!! The animations were amazing. Not sure what other people watched but I though it was lovely and sweet. It was a short film, it didn't need to have a huge plot

ohmygoditshappening · 25/12/2022 22:08

A very wise friend bought me the book the day after I had two serious traumatic bereavements within days, I lost the two people I was closest to in the world . I was searching for home too . Sat and read it to me quietly when I couldn’t formulate a sentence . I sat and sobbed my way through it this morning, first ever Christmas not with my own family, hundreds of miles from home - it’s a beautiful, beautiful piece of writing and animation.

Hugasauras · 25/12/2022 22:11

I am giggling at 'Where's the police?' GrinGrinGrin

Honeyroar · 25/12/2022 22:35

I thought it was dreadful! It was beautifully drawn, that’s about all I could say about it. Other than that it was just as many twee quotes as possible shoved in until my eyes rolled to the back of my head! It could’ve been quite a cute story if it hadn’t tried too hard with the quotations.
3 out of 10 from me.

thesnow · 25/12/2022 23:13

Twas utter shite.

Oblomov22 · 26/12/2022 07:49

"Cheesy cod philosophy / well-being quotes, badly animated, and the boy had wanky emo hair."
Yes to the twatty hair.
Why isn't he wearing a coat?
Flying horse?
Empty feel good woke quotes, no plot, no ending. Utter shit.

Tereseta · 26/12/2022 07:53

jaundicedoutlook · 25/12/2022 09:29

Genuinely couldn’t have hated this more. Cheesy cod philosophy / well-being quotes, badly animated, and the boy had wanky emo hair.

Absolutely agree, it was awful!

honeylulu · 26/12/2022 11:49

I didn't read the book but just watched on iplayer.

I assumed the animals were dead and in some sort of limbo. The boy had the option to "go home" but chose to stay with them I.e was no longer afraid of dying. But then that seemed unsuitable kids TV material for Christmas so I came here to see if I'd got it wrong (yes).

I can now sort of see how it's a metaphor the boy accepting different parts of himself but it was a bit too whimsical for a thicko like me to "get" that by myself.

Soproudoflionesses · 26/12/2022 12:19

Hated it.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 26/12/2022 12:22

Perfect Christmas viewing. I cried quite a lot. It was beautiful & the music was so lovely too.
