So disappointed with Motherland **Thread contains spoilers**

I'm the biggest fan of Motherland normally but I feel so let down by the Xmas special! Have been looking forward to it all day but didn't laugh once. Yes it was very sad etc but not what I wanted from a Xmas special at all.

I thought the Marion not waking was a joke and she would eventually.

Was really Looking forward to it but was a bit disappointed on the storyline, felt they could have done so much but not Marion's passing for a Christmas special!

Does anyone know where I could watch last yearS Xmas special? I'm not sure if I've missed it.

I loved it. Love all the characters. Sad about Marion though because I thought she was great.

I get that Xmas is not always happy and jingle bells for people, but honestly I look forward to the sarcasm and jokes to make me laugh and take me away from any crap going on...this just brought me down 😞

I thought Kevin had got it wrong and she was going to appear in the kitchen doorway !

Losing mum two months ago made this feel all a bit close to home.

Me and my dd are massive fans and watch it daily but the vibe was a bit dark tonight.

I was disappointed too. It just wasn’t very funny. I was expecting it to be funny. It was mostly depressing

I’m a big fan and have been really looking forward to it… but was disappointed. In fairness though , it’s because I needed a much needed laugh and this brought back I’m very unhappy memories of last Christmas, not because it was crap.

I liked it. Not what I expected but I thought it was very warm.
I think they get the positioning between the 'polished' version of Christmas and what really matters just right.

I don't normally like The Cleaner but I thought the Christmas special was great.

I was just about to start a thread on this. I was looking forward to it for a bit of light relief as my family and I are going through a difficult time at the moment. I loved last years, but this one has just made me feel really sad Confused

I liked it but have never found Motherland laugh out loud funny anyway.
It is painful comedy and always has been as all the characters are so flawed.
The Amanda storyline was so well done and the scene where she nearly ran julia over was touching.

I loved it, but yes to more laughs please.

We needed more of Julia’s husband’s crap gifts. Amanda and Kevin having a festive shag. Sam Shepherd cooking Christmas dinner for Liz and giving her an amazing Christmas for once.

It tackled too much heartache for one half hour xmas comedy - death of a mother, blended family and new baby upset - comments like "it might not even stick". Bearing in mind their audience us mostly going to be women going through these issues it was a bit much tbh.

I loved it! Sad but uplifting too. I thought they tackled the twist really well, because although it was sad, it was funny too, like Kevin trying to panic-breathe into the toilet roll tube. Amanda turning on her mum was also brilliant.

Our DC is getting an Oculus VR for Christmas. I won't be letting my elderly MIL go near it.

That was so disappointing. Not the fun Christmas Special I’d hoped for. I massively miss my mum at this time of year and felt unprepared for that. I seek comedy and easy watching around Christmas. Thank goodness for Two Doors Down to hit the heartwarming and laughs so perfectly afterwards.
