Can't see a thread. What is this shite?

OP posts:
MincePiesSparklyEyesAndNaturalHighs · 10/12/2022 22:46

Does the public like Amanda? I've not read anything apart from this thread but from talking in real life I know noone who is rooting for her

ReneBumsWombats · 10/12/2022 22:49

Who are people rooting for in your experience?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/12/2022 22:55

I don't think I'm rooting for anyone specific, its fascinating psychologically but the wild and almost immature emotional hysterics are really odd, where is the cool heads prevail, sharp, focused, gamesmanship and rigour? The analysis and calculations? Why is everything so personal? It's like no one understands the game they are playing, except maybe at this stage, Amanda and Will.

Adultchildofelderlyparents · 10/12/2022 23:06

I thought it seemed overdramatic when Alyssa said she'd been given the poisoned chalice. She was implying she didn't want to be a traitor but in the first episode we saw some of the candidates (including her) putting themselves forward to do it.

Dotellhimpike · 10/12/2022 23:14

Yes it was overdramatic but them all being so overdramatic is what's making it so enjoyable to watch for me.

MincePiesSparklyEyesAndNaturalHighs · 10/12/2022 23:15

Me personally I'm rooting for none of them, there's not enough shown about each of them to have a favourite. From conversations about just the traitors, Wilf seems to be more liked than Amanda and I would possibly agree.

Mouldyfoodhelp · 10/12/2022 23:28

Not rooting for anyone I guess I'm against a few but meh, I'm not sure if I just caught up as bored or I'm intrigued by it, the tasks seem pretty easy to raise the money and there's no real way to tell who's a traitor so it's a guessing game and a lot of the guesses are based on nothing. Im watching but I don't see why when I think about the show logically.

Penguinsaregreat · 10/12/2022 23:29

I’d much rather Amanda win than Wilf. If I had to pick who I’d want to win as it stands now I’d pick from:
Amanda
Andrea
Amos
Fay
then possibly Maddie.
This could change.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 11/12/2022 00:26

I think the game would be better if the traitors were working against the faithfuls in some way. The fact they’re all working towards a common goal in terms of raising money I each task means there’s no logical way to spot a traitor from a faithful. It would be more interesting if the Traitors and Faithfuls had separate pots of money, say if in each task there was a certain amount for the faithfuls to win but any money they didn’t manage to win during the task went into the traitor money pot instead. If the traitors were trying to secretly sabotage the tasks then the faithfuls could at least use some logic to try and work out who they are, at the moment it is really just a guessing game for the faithfuls.

tobee · 11/12/2022 03:47

Just catching up.

I don't think Alex will join the traitors. And I don't think it will work as well with only 2.

I haven't seen the first episode but I'd really liked Will before his throwing Alyssa under the bus. Is it going to go full Treasure of the Sierra Madre? Thieves turning on each other? Full paranoia?

Incidentally I'd have screamed the place down with those masks in the church!!

pompomsandtinsel · 11/12/2022 04:30

Do you think the traitors were told by the producers to vote for each other? Bit of a coincidence that they all did that in the last episode.

Can't stand Maddy and am definitely rooting for Amanda to win.

Did anyone watch years and years ago, a channel 4 thing called The Mole ( I think) which had a similar premise but the challenges were harder and the mole had to try and secretly scupper the challenges. I think it was set in Canada. It was on on a Sunday morning?

happinessischocolate · 11/12/2022 07:37

ReneBumsWombats · 10/12/2022 22:20

Alyssa's line about poison chalice, did she dream that up herself?

I'm sure I heard someone use that line in an earlier episode, but I can't remember who or when.

I'm not sure how it is a poisoned chalice, though. As a traitor, you can't get murdered and anyone can be banished. At the moment there are way more Faithfuls than Traitors, so odds would be in your favour.

So I don't know what the poison is.

A poisoned chalice is something that seems good, but then causes harm to the person who has it.

So I think that perfectly describes how Alyssa felt about being a traitor. She was happy at first but fgot more and more miserable and couldn't be herself. I think it's the same for Wilf.

mazylou · 11/12/2022 08:42

Yeah, I remember The Mole, it was very strategic in a way this isn’t. But I’m enjoying it so much - especially Claudia’s sardonic asides. Perfect for post-operative viewing!

burnoutbabe · 11/12/2022 09:09

Netflix did a new "the mole" over the summer.

We also had to guess who was a traitor then and even with them sabotaging it was hard, as a lot of them did crap things in tasks! (I mean most of us would given a tense environment and people shouting at you). Worth watching!

Yeah, that's true. Amanda was the only one who seemed to be enjoying it by that point, but that might be because she was the only one who wasn't suspected.

I guess it must be very hard having to be constantly on guard like that and deceiving everybody, all the time. But it's so interesting how the stress of being rightly suspected doesn't look much different from the stress of being wrongly suspected. It really isn't that easy to tell if someone's lying. If it were, police detective work would be much easier and juries would never give a wrong verdict!

WWGDD · 11/12/2022 10:01

I really warmed to Hannah after the last episode. She was kind to Alyssa saying she shouldn't feel guilty for being a traitor as Alyssa left. And she went and comforted Alex after the roundtable when she was upset and gave her a hug. Plus she's the only person so far, that I've noticed, that has pointed out to the group that they keep focussing on people's personalities rather than their behaviour.

Dotellhimpike · 11/12/2022 10:26

Yes, I changed my opinion on Hannah for pretty much the same reasons.

Marmitepot · 11/12/2022 10:51

I can’t place Rayan’s accent,anyone else?

lljkk · 11/12/2022 10:58

For someone who seems so quiet on Traitors, Rayan is very funny on Twitter.

Penguinsaregreat · 11/12/2022 11:05

This is why Amanda is so good. Having said that Wilf is a parent too. That just proves my theory that mothers find it easy to lie, they do it all the time. Wilf obviously doesnt do the majority of the parenting ( like most men) he leaves it to his wife. The parent who does most of the parenting lies all the time. I mentioned this upthread. The majority of mothers ( and fathers when they look after their children) lie throughout December, telling their children that some freaky looking toy, dressed in red moved things in the house. Telling them that some fat guy with a beard flew through the sky and magically put presents in their house. Mothers like Amanda do it all the time. If you’ve ever worked with children you will lie to them too. Telling them that the piece of writing they did was really good. No it wasn’t it’s just a tactic used to gee them up to help them improve.
I’m loving this show. It proves how important it is for most humans to be liked and thought of as trustworthy. Even Alyssa was upset because she had been caught out and probably wished she had never had to be that deceitful.

Trust MN to turn fluff TV into proof of some kind of extremist feminist view on world.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 11/12/2022 12:14

The problem is that it's all in the editing so obviously we don't get to see everything people say. Amanda seems to talk a lot, be very bubbly and sympathetic and crucially, never try to sow a seed about anyone. The human brain seems to remember conversations more if a name is mentioned or accused so she flies under the radar because she never mentions anyone, but unlike Alyssa, she isn't overly quiet either. She just agrees with everyone. A very clever game. I like Amos, I think he's bright and quite honest. I liked Ivan as well but he was stitched up completely.

Not like you to come on to a thread and make a one-sentence, acerbic comment.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 11/12/2022 13:43

Alyssa seemed to go between hating having to deceive people (when she was mixing with the faithful) and loving it (when she was with the traitors). I thought the sheep trial was hilarious, perfectly illustrated that people act like sheep. Most people subconsciously really don't think for themselves, and do go along with others. The skill is in making people think that the idea you've sown in their head is their own idea.

It's hardly "extreme feminism" to comment that women do the majority of parenting
