For the love of cheese - come on and vote mumsnet we cannot let Matt Hancock win I’m a celeb. He will be all over our tv about how the British public have forgiven him and this has been part of his redemption.

OP posts:

So people are literally just voting for him to piss off other people who shut down debate by insulting others or belittling them?

The people who voted for him are not some sort of homogenous group. They'll have all sorts of reasons why they voted for him. Here are some but it's not an exhaustive list.

Why people voted for him:

  1. they felt sorry for him for how he was treated by the others when he went in there
  2. they were impressed by his ability with the tasks and liked his attitude how he just got on with things and didn't moan
  3. it played with the minds of the other contestants when they kept losing to him
  4. they didn't like being told by the media how they should vote
  5. they liked him
  6. they disliked him less than the others
  7. they liked seeing the Tory govt, leftwingers, tv presenters and the media all be confounded by his success
  8. they thought he did an OK job with the pandemic
  9. they didn't hold him personally responsible for the pandemic
  10. they got fed up of being belittled and insulted by others

Why does MH get to get away with his shitty behaviour though

No idea. He's a useless MP by all accounts and like mine, does not answer polite questioning emails. As I explained upthread it's been proven that some of his constituents genuinely need help and hrs nowhere to be seen
Or quite the opposite ..plastered all over ITV every night trying to 'refeem' himself
How anyone can excuse that, god alone knows

GreenLunchBox · 27/11/2022 01:58

Surely the last few years have shown you the British public shouldn't be allowed to vote for anything

Booklover3 · 27/11/2022 01:59

Fair enough @MarshaMelrose. I still think he ought to have been a reality TV person and not an MP. It sounds like he’s better at it.

DuchessDandelion · 27/11/2022 02:05

Maybe it can be a Thing for disgraced MPs. Can't win an election but can win IACGMOOH

blackpearwhitelilies · 27/11/2022 02:38

Booklover3 · 27/11/2022 00:51

I’ve taken in everything you’ve said about being woke and lefties but you haven’t answered my question. I understand how you feel like lefties don’t listen and shout and rant and rave at differing opinions.

I’m not shouting, ranting, raving or even particularly woke or a leftie.

I honestly want to know how you feel about MH and the things he did during Covid?

purplebutterfly has done more ranting and raving than anyone else on this thread, which is ironic as she thinks right-leaning people are calm. That tired phrase ‘woke leftie’ is just getting trotted out meaninglessly over and over again.

paintitallover · 27/11/2022 05:28

When he decided to do the show, all the papers were talking arbour it. It was seen as unacceptable everywhere. People can support him on this thread, but it's hard to see how they have thought it through. I'm not being insulting, however it looks as though to some people his political actions don't matter, as long as he can eat a worm.

70billionthnamechange · 27/11/2022 06:20

This thread is lols. Everyone calm the fuck down

xalo · 27/11/2022 07:17

Whether MH wins or not he has shown that he has been completely justified in doing this show.

ssd · 27/11/2022 07:35

How on earth is he justified? Do you mean him proving the British public have no morals, just like him? That we would forgive the unforgivable, so long as someone appears on tv acting the goat?

Doesn't say much for us, does it?

xalo · 27/11/2022 07:57

The British public
a. Don't prejudge before seeing the evidence from the enquiry.
b. Will take the side of a clear underdog against loud and aggressive bullies.
c. Do not like to be told who to vote for on a tv showGrin

LadyHarmby · 27/11/2022 08:10

I think it’s a reminder that what we see in the papers and social media is not necessarily reflective of what the public thinks. It’s easy to forget that sometimes.

ssd · 27/11/2022 08:28

The British public are

A. Mostly thick

B. Easily taken in

C. Still think the tories are their natural superiors.

D. Will do what they are told by people who shaft them repeatedly.

E. Think rebellion is voting in a multi millionaire with various business interests will be on their side.

Its too depressing to go on.

I hope we get independence soon.

xalo · 27/11/2022 08:34

Mostly thick! You sound lovely!

ODPintheNHS · 26/11/2022 22:21

I know all about the pandemic. I worked in ITU.

weirdly… my colleagues like him too.

because he’s not to blame. He was a fall guy that was told what to say. we are all intelligent people that are allowed to make our own decisions. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I know others in the NHS that broke lockdown rules. I know people in carehomes that broke lockdown rules.

You don’t like him - Fine.

Don’t dictate how others should feel about him, and don’t make judgements on those that do like him.

Hoorah!! This exactly.

All you clever people on mumsnet who would have known how to handle the pandemic and would have saved thousands of lives with your degrees in epidemiology 🙄, why didn't you come forward???

He's a nice enough chap, he's tried his hardest in the trials and has handled himself well when other s are nasty to him.

Inkanta · 27/11/2022 09:17

I wondered if he might be the fall guy. The media (and Piers Morgan) was dreadful during the pandemic and I lost trust in them.

Yes 🤣🤣🤣

cosmiccosmos · 26/11/2022 22:14

Haven't seen the stats but I bet it's mainly young people voting and predominantly those in a lower demographic. I know that won't be popular. However frankly anyone who knows anything about the pandemic and the long term affects of MH's decisions along with his flagrant abuse of lockdown rules with his affair would not vote for him. Sadly the fact he is still there tells us a lot about society now. People seem to be happy to forgive and forget any type of bevaviour - is this because they think it is acceptable? something they could see themselves doing? Something that 'people in power' do (and let's get over it?).

I know its a tv show but people are paying to vote!

@cosmiccosmos I think most people are voting for free on the app. I don't know a single person who and paid for a vote and that covers quite a wide age group.

I've a feeling he'll win as people are voting for him to piss others off. These threads just make people download the app and vote to be contrary!

#jilltowin

AndEverWhoKnew · 27/11/2022 11:43

Tbh I think the fact he has got this far just shows that I'm a Celeb can be fixed and manipulated.
The Tories have always used polls to try to influence opinion. I think they're now using reality tv in the same way. Hancock's pr team are working overtime placing fluff stories all across the tabloids. The Daily Mail columnists are tying themselves in knots trying to write favourable features about him.
But, social media, phone lines and Daily Mail columnists are not the general public. I don't know anyone in RL who is falling for this bullshit and yy I do know Tory voters, Labour voters, people who vote for every party. Everyone sees this nonsense for what it is.
All Hancock has managed to do is dent the 'credibility' of I'm a Celeb. It's cost the show quite a few high profile supporters of who used to tweet religiously to their 100s of 1000s of followers but who stopped watching when Hancock went in.

useitagain · 27/11/2022 11:47

I bet IACGMOOH has never had so many votes for the final and no one pays for voting unless they are a fool

Greenshake · 27/11/2022 12:22

@AndEverWhoKnew i am not sure that ‘I’m a Celeb’ ever had that much credibility 😂😂

Janieread · 26/11/2022 22:50

Yup. All the middle aged white women who vote have been utterly taken in. I'm actually going to feel annoyed tomorrow when lovely Jill doesn't win.

Middle aged white women 🙄
See, it's stupid posts like this what make people want to vote for him!
What, we should all just vote for Jill because she's a woman too?!
We all have different opinions you know, we don't all have to be the same.
Twitter' s ridiculous in the toys being thrown out of the pram posts, it's just making people vote for him more.
For the record, I'm not voting for him, I've been voting for Babatunde.
Owen now for me I think

One thing I've noticed is how rude a lot of the people who don't want MH to win are. I mean calling people stupid and hard of thinking because they have a different view to you isn't very grown up is it.

Exactly
