If you have to question it, then surely the joke isn't working. It felt more that they were laughing at the audience rather than themself.

Like Ben Elton, Julian Clarey, Jo Brand, but the rest - not so much. The man / woman taking his / her clothes off and singing about how wonderful they were = absolutely terrible.

The canned laughter definitely doesn’t match the facial expressions of the audience!!

Same here…in fact that’s when I switched off. I did used to love FNL and have seen Ben Elton live in the 80s, but as others have said this was all a bit excruciating….kind of like your young uncle who used to be fun and cool, but we’ve all grown up and he’s still carrying on in the same way so you kind of laugh politely and look for someone else to speak to
