so you don't think he has botox? I do not follow him so have no idea about his MH.

I don't give a shit whether or not he has had Botox. You don't need to follow him, just these threads, to know he has struggled with his mental health.

Samcro · 03/10/2022 10:40

its a light entertainment show.

They'll have Helen doing a jive to the Shake 'n' Vac song by week 5.

I can picture that, oddly enough. It’s actually rather good😂

MrsLargeEmbodied · 03/10/2022 11:37

surley if he was clinically depressed he wouldnt be on the show
his depression would have to be totally under control to take part

Yes, I would have thought so? It's a high pressure endeavour, and the BBC have a duty of care

This really made me laugh. Instead of "Movie week" (it's "Film" anyway...we aren't American) we can have "Cleaning Week". And extend the idea to "Gardening week" or "Decorating week". Endless new possibilities

Thank you - I hate Americanisms with a passion. No one should use them except for Americans.

I also like your themed week ideas and would add a "Cleaning the Fish Tank Week" to them.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 03/10/2022 13:21

I don’t agree with whoever said a while back upthread, Kaye didn’t make much of an effort; I think she made a huge effort and did as well as she was able, except in the dance off, when she was clearly nervous and fluffing the steps in places.

Debbie McGee was a different kettle of fish altogether, having had a lot of training in her youth.

Aye - the mix was all to cock! 😄

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 03/10/2022 13:27

... just caught a little VT from Kaye on Loose Women... bit deflated, but philosophical about whole thing and said she thoroughly enjoyed the experience. She probably would’ve improved, given time, like most people would, but there isn’t time on this show for everyone, that’s the nature of it, and it’s always bit of a lottery in the early weeks.

Tbh, if I went on as an older celebrity, with or without a dance background, I’d be very prepared for an early exit.

Kaye is nearly sixty!

Being nearly doesn't stop you from putting the effort in. She wasn't trying.

I can’t for the life of me imagine why anybody would go on Strictly and not try... what would be the point?

I don't know. Maybe resigned to the fact that she'll be out soon anyway?

We'll have to agree to disagree.

xsquared · 03/10/2022 14:26

What I would say however, is that Charleston is a very fast amd energetic dance, which I would expect to see later in the show and not on week 2. It was unfair to give her Charleston before she's had a chance to develop basic dance skills.

It is meant to be a crowd pleaser with potentially lots of tricks and lifts. That type of performance should only be done when contestants have got their confidence up.

I didn't watch earlier series of Strictly but understand that they would have half the contestants doing waltz I think, and the other half doing Cha Cha Cha amd then swap the following week. That seems fairer to me.

MsMcGonagall · 03/10/2022 14:50

tbf, Katya threw a Charleston in on week 2 because its typically a crowd pleaser, sometimes a judge pleaser, and I bet its less likely to go home on a charleston. Her gamble proved right for Tony. It wasn't a judge pleaser but it got the public voting.

The same gamble didn't come off for Kaye.

Partly this is because Tony's more confident character could work better with the material. Kaye seems more reserved and its a lot for her to reverse that to the full "there is no top to not go over" of the charleston, as Craig put it.

I also think, if she'd managed to remember all the steps in the dance off, even if a bit underwhelming, she would be through.

Many years ago they did... it was definitely a fairer system, but could be dull watching too many waltzes or salsas in one sitting when they weren’t that good. I do wonder on what basis they decide who does which dance, and when...? I don’t think it’s ever been mentioned

EsmaCannonball · 03/10/2022 15:17

Everyone's guessing The Lion King or Cats or The Jungle Book for Richie and Giovanni because of the 'Roar!' clue, but I've now got it so into my head that they're going to do an epic, swirling American Smooth to Born Free that I'm going to be mightily disappointed when it pretty obviously doesn't happen. Imagine it: a safari lodge, a jeep, the knee-length khaki shorts, Giovanni as Bill Travers, actual lions. The producers of this show are no fun.

Totally agree with you @xsquared I said this last night after seeing the dance off. She didn’t try at all really poor effort...happy to take her fee but no effort or trying to dance 😦! It’s a dance show clue is in the name

They sometimes used to halve them as well, so you'd only see eight in one go, then eight the following week — much more sensible show length!

EvilRingahBitch · 03/10/2022 16:37

Speaking as a woman from an non-stage-school background a few years younger than Kaye and in adequate physical condition, there's no way I could perform that Charleston at the level Kaye managed in the main show without slogging my guts out to learn the steps and the technique.

I grant you that she didn't seem to have the burning need to stay in that some contestants do: she wasn't adoring the experience/fulfilling a childhood dream/devoted to Kai/badly in need of a career boost/angling to be cast as Roxie Hart.

But I honestly think she just blanked in the dance-off under the pressure.

Thats what I thought. Interestingly, on LW at lunchtime Linda Robson said Kaye was much better than Matt in the dance off, which I thought was strange considering it was in the DO she made the most mistakes.

Strictly 2022 Week 2

JacquelineCarlyle · 03/10/2022 18:44

I agree @Bluffinwithmymuffin & think she's openly said she blanked in the dance off.

Just watched her and Kai on ITT. They came across well but she's not someone I can warm to at all, so I'm happy she's gone although will miss Kai!

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 03/10/2022 19:28

I think we’ll all miss Kai ;)
