Well, you lot weren't wrong, dear me. Rubber Fetish convention pro dance put me off my supper. Robbie's mullet and slowed down She's the one was She's the number two (poo) and Kaye forgot her routine on at least four occasions. Matt was still lacking any samba action at all.
Kaye can have a lie-in and cackle at the thought of earning the same as everyone else in the early stages- 25k for just over three weeks work's not bad, is it?
Shame about Kai - loved him last year - but him and Nadiya will be reunited soon. They can both do the Xmas special. I had wanted him with Jayde, but not sure how well that would have gone either tbf. I had her down for at least getting to Blackpool, but I think others will overtake her atm.

EvilRingahBitch · 02/10/2022 23:50

The thing about doing the results show live is that it's a bit mean for the younger viewers who can't stay up until 10pm.

And from the BBC's point of view, having a really solid ratings banker anchoring your Sunday night is just too good to pass up.

This gave me a mighty sense of my own mortality this week

Don't get this at all

JamMakingWannaBe · 03/10/2022 01:04

I don't mind having it over two nights. I might read/see the spoilers but my DD doesn't so it's still a surprise reveal for her.

Agree with PP that the elimination goes on far too long in the early weeks. I'm not sure how you could speed this up though.

I thought Shirley knew everyone else was going to vote Kay off, but as she had the deciding vote, it could have been Matt. It wasn't a unanimous decision.

I preferred COVID times when there wasn't the pile on hugs at the end. It would be nice to have the couple have a proper last dance together. Also preferred the Claudia chat without the other dancers in the background. It meant you could focus solely on the couple.

I assume radge means that when we see actors from films of our youth/teens, who we haven't seen in aeons, and either no longer recognise them or realise they have aged (like you do) then it brings you to the sad realisation that you too are ageing/possibly unrecognisable and at some point will peg it/shuffle off this mortal coil.
A bit like vanitas/memento mori.
I didn't recognise Michael Nouri from Flashdance either.

EsmaCannonball · 02/10/2022 20:51

Maybe a foxtrot or AS to Be My Baby for Will? They could go wild and switch to a Mean Streets theme halfway through.

I can't really see it myself, but could Tyler be Alfred Doolittle on his wedding day? Could this be the year that Strictly goes all-in on binmen? Come to think of it, we had Karen and Jayde as cleaning ladies last week, the BDSM Marigolds pro dance this week, and now binmen galore. One of the producers is having some kind of OCD clean-freak breakdown, aren't they? They'll have Helen doing a jive to the Shake 'n' Vac song by week 5.

This really made me laugh. Instead of "Movie week" (it's "Film" anyway...we aren't American) we can have "Cleaning Week". And extend the idea to "Gardening week" or "Decorating week". Endless new possibilities

lollipoprainbow · 03/10/2022 07:31

Wasn't keen on Neil and the new pro prancing around to Robbie it was comical, a slow dance to match the song would have been better.

Coffeesnob11 · 03/10/2022 07:41

To me matt seems hugely anxious, I was expecting something completely different with him confidence wise. I hope he is okay.
Had Robbie Williams buttoned his blazer incorrectly? I found it hugely distracting for some unknown reason if it was meant to be like that the pockets were wonky.
Neil smiled through the dance and it didn't seem to fit for me.
I prefer the Sunday show but I so wish there was a 1 button blocker so nothing about it could come up on my phone.

SoupDragon · 03/10/2022 07:48

I think it would be too much to have the results on Saturday. Especially in these early weeks when there are so many of them. I'm happy with the fake live show in a Sunday.

i think Matt was very very flat emotionally. He isn't showing any enjoyment or happiness at all. I don't think he even looked sad at being in the dance off, just resigned.

Samcro · 03/10/2022 07:55

i thought his lack of emotion was because his face can't move.

Maireas · 03/10/2022 07:56

I don't mind a (short) Sunday evening results show, but I think the pro dance could be better. Plus it's 7.15 on a Sunday evening and they don't really need to make it so..... raunchy? Anyway, more like an enjoyable dance, less displays with rubber gloves. (hoiks bosom)

SoupDragon · 03/10/2022 08:05

Bit uncalled for given he has been open about his mental health.

I couldn’t have said it better @SequinsandStilettos

in my head I’m still a lithe, mahogany haired full of fun youth, full of exuberance and forever out dancing.

the reality when looking in the mirror however… 🤣

Strictlyfanoftenyears · 03/10/2022 08:28

I don't wish to appear unsympathetic but I do wish the words "mental health" wouldnt get bandied about so so much. Its become so normalised now unfortunately, that it loses its importance. People use it for anything and everything. (Im having a bad day, its my mental health etc). Not saying that about Matt but in general terms.

Twatling · 03/10/2022 08:37

Maireas · 02/10/2022 20:34

Still no idea who he is, although I remember going to see Flashdance about 40 years ago, and thinking she could have made more money as a welder.
Although I did like the scene from the Full Monty when they were watching it and one commented "those joints will never hold" !

Too much acetylene is that Grin

Hated the pros opening group dance. What was with the fetishistic rubber gloves? Gross.

Matt looked deflated but Kaye wasn't really putting any effort in her dance.

Kaye is nearly sixty!

Maireas · 03/10/2022 08:48

I thought Kaye did well, she is almost 60, and I thought her first dance was actually quite good. Katya did the right thing with a comedy routine for Tony, playing to strengths. The weakest ones for me are the man from EastEnders and Ellie T, although it's early days and maybe other types of dance will suit.

genuinelyaskingforafriend · 03/10/2022 08:54

Matt's personality appears to be very "controlled".

It would be good to see him loosen up generally and in his dance.

lollipoprainbow · 03/10/2022 08:59

60 isn't really old these days though, there's been older good contestants, Debbie McGee was fab !

so you don't think he has botox? I do not follow him so have no idea about his MH.

True. Most 60 year olds are still in employment, plus Debbie and Gio were a great partnership!
However it would be fair to say you're not as lithe as Molly, for example.

I've got friends who are nearly sixty and they couldn't do those routines!

Debbie McGee was an exception!

I was 2 when Flashdance came out. I'd not know him from Adam in those days either!

nomdegrrr1 · 03/10/2022 09:34

Re Matt - if someone is clinically depressed then it's hard for them to show any emotion or genuine feeling. I think if he went to through the hothouse of famous band in the eighties followed by Vegas, it wouldn't be unexpected for him to be fragile. But bless him, he's trying to say positive things and be inclusive of everyone.
